World War Skrull

So there's a lot of talk floating around that the last several years of wierd-ass behavior on the part of Marvel's characters is the result of a massive Skrull infiltration. Whattaya think?

Much of the speculation has centered around Tony Stark - the real reason he's been a dickhead and just about destroyed the superhero community is he's a vangard spy softening up the world for invasion. My thought is from the other side of Civil War. Cap is dead? Well, the Skrull that took Cap's place is dead anyway!

nb: I really don't know that much about Marvel continuity, including what Skrull powers are besides 'we look like this!' so I could easily be way off.

Hasn't one of the big Marvel bods (BMB or Millar or someone like that) said that Tony Stark is definitely not a Skrull? Which might imply that registration was just a way of getting data on who might be out there and what they're capable of in case they turn out to be Skrulls... Which may be defending the indefensible.

Personally I don't much care about the Crossover Event of 2008 (if that's what it turns out to be) as I'm not a Marvel Universe person - except, that is, unless it helps to bring back the Skrull Kill Krewe. in which case: Bring it on!

The Conquerer or Kodos' sister?

The Skrull plot is fun, I like the buildup and the sense of "it could be anybody!" Unfortunately it's pretty easy to strike out a lot of the most fun candidates I think. Although, I guess the linewide ban on thought balloons does kind of open up some wiggle room - but you can only go so far back without really screwing over a character's continuity with "well, those five years were all Skrull Cap" or whatever....

New Avengers is kind of spinning its wheels though amirite? Latest issue didn't really add much although the more serious clue-spotters probably found a lot to talk about. I fear the story's momentum drying up while Bendis waits for WWH and One More Day to finish up.
