Jesus this is a big week. Not for superheroes. For books.

LITTLE LULU VOL. 17 THE VALENTINE TP--because soon my son will be old enough for me to read him this stuff
BOOSTER GOLD #3--because it's the only comic currently running that feels at all like 52
NEW AVENGERS #35--oh, they finally got around to publishing another issue of this? (actually it hasn't been that long)
PUNISHER WAR JOURNAL #12--a World War Hulk tie-in might be what finally gets me to read this series
SHORTCOMINGS HC--actually I read this already
SPY VS. SPY VOL. 2 JOKE AND DAGGER FILES TP--because half of it is Peter Kuper's Spy Vs. Spy strips!
STRONTIUM DOG SEARCH/DESTROY AGENCY FILES 03 TP--wonderful dark funny bounty-hunter stuff from 2000 AD
SUNDAYS WITH WALT AND SKEEZIX VOL. 1 HC--bought this one back at Comic-Con--another dining-table-sized book from the people who brought you that Little Nemo book
TOWN BOY SC--got this one already too--second volume of Lat's memoirs, lovely stuff
WALT AND SKEEZIX VOL. 3 HC--man, you wait all year and then all the Gasoline Alley stuff happens at once

Batconfidential
BPRD Killing Ground

Oilyrags, Monday, 8 October 2007 18:55 (seventeen years ago)

BPRD: KILLING GROUND - which has officially become a "peer" rather than a spinoff of HELLBOY, in my opinion.
PUNISHER MAX - The last page of the previous ish elicited one of the most genuine "holy crap" moments I've ever experienced w/r/t to a work of art.
PUNISHER WAR JOURNAL - HULK-SIZED!
RUNAWAYS - imagine your astonishment if you came across gilded age Frank Castle in Luc Sante's LOW LIFE...
NANA VOL. 7 - strangely shrinkwrapped

R Baez, Monday, 8 October 2007 19:22 (seventeen years ago)

Just Runaways

Jordan, Monday, 8 October 2007 19:27 (seventeen years ago)

Mordechai Shinefield, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 01:10 (seventeen years ago)

For me this week it's:

BLACK SUMMER #3
DRAFTED #2

Stone Monkey, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 06:41 (seventeen years ago)

X-Factor, Runaways, New Avengers, and uh, Green Lantern cos uh, I kinda got into Green Lantern recently and I've been afraid to admit this in public until just now.

Also, this maybe should be in last week's thread, but I just want to mention that the first issue of Jonathan Lethem's Omega The Unknown was wonderful, really one of my favorite comics in a while and I'm very excited to read the rest of it.

Mr. Perpetua, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 15:22 (seventeen years ago)

Batman Conf.
Booster Gold
Pun War Journal
plus stuff from the last two weeks like, um, Speak of the Devil and, um, Killing Girl or something.

might try GA/BC, because Cliff Chiang, but then again Judd Winixx.

Dr. Superman, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 15:48 (seventeen years ago)

Omega The Unknown was wonderful, really one of my favorite comics in a while and I'm very excited to read the rest of it.

I'm glad to see there's at least one booster - my own opinion is a bit more than Tom's "eh" and less than yours, but I'm certainly quite intrigued.

R Baez, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 17:47 (seventeen years ago)

the first issue of Lethem's Omega was like a boring cover of Gerber's #1. Hopefully it'll bust out of the Van Sant Psycho mold quickly enough.

Garrett Martin, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 20:24 (seventeen years ago)

A slow week, with just Booster Gold, Fantastic Four, Nova, and X-Factor for me.

Garrett Martin, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 20:40 (seventeen years ago)

I guess maybe it helped that I never read Gerber's stuff? I just really liked how Lethem handled himself in the format, and loved the artwork, which doesn't seem like much at first, but is rather complex and subtle. And Paul Hornschemeier on colors, how weird and unlikely and awesome is that?

Mr. Perpetua, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 11:56 (seventeen years ago)

I think it came out a couple of weeks ago, but the latest issue of Comic Art is the single finest strip-related mag/book I've read all year - gorgeous and fascinating throughout:

Speaking of Paul Hornschemeier, have any of you read The Three Paradoxes yet? I highly recommend it, it is definitely my favorite "indie" comic in quite a while. It runs with some stylistic things that Clowes was doing on Ice Haven, but goes to a very different place with it. I figured Hornschemeier would do something really good one day after reading his last book, but I didn't expect for it to come so soon.
