comics you would like to drop and probably will

Let's talk about comics that are underperforming and must be dropped before the Christmas party.

All Superman books except All Star: The new guy on Superman proper is no Pacheco. The Third Kryptonian story was kind of a bust all together. The Gary Frank Legion stuff in Action looks cool, but I'm having a hard time giving a shit, after the Eric Powell Bizarro story was pretty much just a rehash of the slightly more elegant All Star Bizarro story.

Green Lantern Corps: Not enough Gleason.

Detective: Maybe, I don't know. Is there a new AWESOME artist coming on? Dini's stuff has been really hit or miss, and I'm not sure I'm up to the task.

New team books, mostly:

The Order
The Programme
Infinity Inc.

Hmmm...looks like I don't dig Milligan as much as I usedta.

Oilyrags, Friday, 16 November 2007 04:13 (eighteen years ago)

I quite like Infinity Inc, but I do think I'm only buying the Programme out of loyalty. I'll stay with it. I feel like it's important to vote with my dollars when it comes to Milligan. I just want him to keep getting published, you know?

I'm getting really bored with Brave and the Bold, I might just get rid of it. Grant Morrison's Batman has been kind of a chore in the past few months, even with some really nice art. My loyalty to Morrison and Waid keep me buying those.

Mr. Perpetua, Friday, 16 November 2007 12:42 (eighteen years ago)

Powers is pissing me off no end. For no real reason that I can put my finger on...

Stone Monkey, Friday, 16 November 2007 15:53 (eighteen years ago)

Looking forward to dropping Runaways after Whedon is done.

I'm not sure about Batman, since I'm skeptical of the R'as al Ghul thing running over into a bunch of books?

Jordan, Friday, 16 November 2007 16:21 (eighteen years ago)

Looking forward to dropping Runaways after Whedon is done.

I thought he just started! Is there an end date already? Damn auteurs and their limited engagements.

Rock Hardy, Friday, 16 November 2007 17:01 (eighteen years ago)

Currently buying: Criminal, Brave and the Bold, Flash, ASS, Daredevil, GMo Batman, Wonder Woman
Currently internetting: everything else
Dropping: none

I'm tempted to drop Daredevil, as it's been (relatively) lacklustre for the past six months or so, but seeing as I buy so few comics on a regular basis at the moment (I'm quite broke while I wait for my Canadian work visa to come through), I might as well stick to it.

It's a shame about Busiek, he started so well.

Chuck_Tatum, Friday, 16 November 2007 17:05 (eighteen years ago)

Whedon only has two issues left. He's only doing a six issue arc. Dude is busy! He's got to oversee the Buffy and Angel comics and whenever the WGA strike ends, he'll be working on that new tv show with Eliza Dushku.

Mr. Perpetua, Friday, 16 November 2007 19:00 (eighteen years ago)

Marvel has announced Terry Moore, creator of Strangers in Paradise will take over the title after Whedon leaves, with Humberto Ramos on art.

Jordan, Friday, 16 November 2007 19:10 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, Runaways will pretty much be dead to me once Wheadon leaves. Its a shame, for a long time that was my favorite book every month.

Flash is about to be dropped too. Brave and the Bold is everything I like about Waid and the Flash is everything I don't like about Waid.

James, Friday, 16 November 2007 19:35 (eighteen years ago)

I guess you like nerdy Waid more?

I'm going to give Terry Moore the benefit of the doubt and give him a few months on Runaways and Spidey Loves Mary Jane. I don't really have a beef with him, so who knows. I'm way more concerned about Humberto Ramos drawing Runaways. That's gonna sting, that guy is fucking horrible.

Mr. Perpetua, Friday, 16 November 2007 20:37 (eighteen years ago)

I don't know if its nerdy Waid I like more. B&B is corny but good. Flash is a little bland. Its decent but nothing real memorable.

I'm iffy on Terry Moore. I read an interview about what he has planned for the run and I wasn't too impressed. The main reason I'm dropping is Ramos.

James, Friday, 16 November 2007 21:19 (eighteen years ago)

My spider-sense has kept me far away from Strangers in Paradise, so ironically I'm more willing to give Moore a shot on Runaways, even though, uh, my spider-sense kept me away from his breakout book. That doesn't really make sense to me either.

whenever the WGA strike ends, he'll be working on that new tv show with Eliza Dushku.

BARF

Rock Hardy, Friday, 16 November 2007 22:19 (eighteen years ago)

They should scoop up some of these striking tv writers, ie Spiderman/Mary Jane as written by Mindy Kaling.

Jordan, Friday, 16 November 2007 22:46 (eighteen years ago)

Terry Moore is a big no no.
I was also considering dropping daredevil.

forksclovetofu, Friday, 16 November 2007 22:58 (eighteen years ago)

Spiderman/Mary Jane as written by Mindy Kaling

Natalie from Facts of Life???

Dr. Superman, Saturday, 17 November 2007 03:06 (eighteen years ago)

I don't want to drop any comics, all the ones I buy are ace. Hooray!

energy flash gordon, Saturday, 17 November 2007 03:42 (eighteen years ago)

fuck you and your good sense.

Dr. Superman, Saturday, 17 November 2007 04:37 (eighteen years ago)

Spiderman/Mary Jane as written by Mindy Kaling

Natalie from Facts of Life???

The Indian girl from THE OFFICE. Last seen playing inept ping pong.

ALSO:

RUNAWAYS post-Whedon
PUNISHER post-Ennis (which I imagine will be 7 or 8 issues down the road)
LOVE & ROCKETS now dropped due to nu-book format, but certainly not lack of enthusiasm. I'm certainly looking forward to 100 pages of new Jaime, though the wait until July may very well kill me.

R Baez, Saturday, 17 November 2007 19:22 (eighteen years ago)

I was going to check out Brave and the Bold, but after glancing at a few issues at the store today, I was kind of disappointed to see it being one story running into the other.

earlnash, Saturday, 17 November 2007 23:25 (eighteen years ago)

God, does Strangers In Paradise suck THAT much? I mean, I vaguely recall reading some issues way back when and not being way into it, but also not being totally repulsed or something.

Mr. Perpetua, Saturday, 17 November 2007 23:57 (eighteen years ago)

I dunno Matt, you might like it. Personally, I thought it was sorta puerile cheesecake.

oooh, even better!

Dr. Superman, Monday, 19 November 2007 21:57 (eighteen years ago)

50 pages of Jaime, unless you're going to wait until July 2009...

energy flash gordon, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 03:08 (eighteen years ago)

50 pages of Jaime, unless you're going to wait until July 2009...

Oh fuck, you're right.

R Baez, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 20:35 (eighteen years ago)

three months pass...

lol there's another ILC thread where everyone basically goes "I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY COMIC BOOK READER OUT THERE WHO THOUGHT TERRY MOORE SHOULD BE BEATEN WITH BATS" isn't there?

HI DERE, Monday, 10 March 2008 22:30 (seventeen years ago)

I thought ILC in toto qualified as such. What, you read the 1st ish of Echo & got scurvy?

David R., Monday, 10 March 2008 22:37 (seventeen years ago)

Wow, that Johns/Frank Legion story in Action is easily one of my favorite super hero stories in a while! But I guess if you're not that into the Legion, it might be kinda dull.

Mr. Perpetua, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 00:56 (seventeen years ago)

DROPPING (soonish if not right now):

- All New Atom (Gail Simone RIP)
- Countdown to Mystery (all respect to SG, but this book has been pretty dire)
- Runaways (@ the same time everyone else is)

That leaves me with, um, way too many books on my pull list.

David R., Tuesday, 11 March 2008 02:59 (seventeen years ago)

Oh! And Blue Beetle after JR hits the road.

David R., Tuesday, 11 March 2008 14:11 (seventeen years ago)

Oh! And maybe The Spirit because the first ish with the new team (Aargones / Evanier / Ploog) read like what I imagine most folks feared the book would be in Cooke's hands -- apologies to whomever I stole that sentiment from.

(Don't mind me now that the workday floodgates came down on ILX.)

David R., Tuesday, 11 March 2008 14:29 (seventeen years ago)

I'm the only person on ILC who likes Ramos but I seriously doubt I'll be putting up with Terry Moore for him.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 15:53 (seventeen years ago)

Ploog was an Eisner assistant for a while, wasn't he? I thought the first post-Cooke issue was decent. (I'm not a big Spirit fan overall, so "decent" is as much as it would get.)

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 16:18 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, Blue Beetle is going to be on a fast track to Cancelledville once Rogers is gone. Same for Superman once Busiek leaves.

Dr. Superman, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 04:09 (seventeen years ago)

one of those statements will be my undoing

Dr. Superman, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 04:13 (seventeen years ago)

Your lack of faith in James Robinson is inspiring.

David R., Wednesday, 12 March 2008 04:43 (seventeen years ago)

did you read his batman story?

Dr. Superman, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 07:07 (seventeen years ago)

Rogers plans on returning to BB... someday... ........ .

Garrett Martin, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 14:53 (seventeen years ago)

I'm dropping Spirit, although I feel kinda guilty about it, 'cause Mark Evanier and Sergio Aragones got me into comics in the first place (Groo, several decades ago).

Chuck_Tatum, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 17:09 (seventeen years ago)

I don't read Captain America, Iron Man, Daredevil, not a single X title, not a singe Avegers permutation. I'm proud of myself, quite frankly. Though I do regret giving up on Captain America (cold turkey the day the new york times homepage spoiled his death for me.)

ian, Friday, 14 March 2008 21:12 (seventeen years ago)

Dang, man, don't let the Times' problems be your problems! Cap is good!
