Do you D/L?

Do you read comics off the internet? It's pretty much my only source of comics. Do you feel more/less guilty getting a .cbr than an .mp3?
I like comics but I can't afford them and don't have a comics shop nearby if I could anyway.
If you're as unscrupulous as I, do you know of anywhere good to go online to get comics? I haven't been able to find Eightball issues, for instance.

since becoming poor i've been downloading instead of buying. i wouldn'y have to though if libraries bothered to stock a decent selection of tpbs

i use bit torrent mainly
and no i don't feel guilty because they're too damn expensive.

£2 for 20 odd pages???

Slump Man (Slump Man), Friday, 30 January 2004 09:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 30 January 2004 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Friday, 30 January 2004 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

What Tico and Alan said ^ 20!

I have seen some issues of Miracleman online, but those were just boring old .jpgs. And, of course, because of all the McFarlane / Gaiman litigation, they were taken down. (Or were they?)

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

My god it's real! There are loads of them on Soulseek.

How do you actually read them?

I am somewhat horrified that one of the first results I got was MARVEL SUPER HEROES SECRET WARS #12.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

THE BIG BANG!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom, are you getting those hits just by putting cbr in as the search? (At work for the next 10 minutes so can't test)

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

"*.cbr"

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

it's nice to have a rider to make searching for these things easier, but who needs a new format. PDF is plenty good to show a spread of 2 facing pages each comprised of a large JPG file.

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I have now downloaded the file of issue #2 of Preacher (not because Preacher is any good but because it was one of the smallest).

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I have not successfully downloaded a comic, but there are certain ones I definitely want to try for (Flex Mentallo, for example).

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 30 January 2004 16:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, I should have said, you need the CDisplay program from here: http://www.geocities.com/davidayton/CDisplay

It basically arranges jpegs for easier reading.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 30 January 2004 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Oni have pdf previews of some of their comics, though I can't say that I've utilized them much.

My library *does* have a fairly nice inventory -- it has the Prisoner sequel, to my knowledge all/most of Lone Wolf & Cub, all of Sandman, and hip cool stuff like 30 Days of Darkness (art = Dave McKean's pallette + Sienkiewicz's inks).

Leee Majors (Leee), Friday, 30 January 2004 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't do it all that often, but I have digital copies of Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol run, Priest's runs on The Ray and Black Panther (I have most of these issues, but due to low print-runs, it's almost impossible for me to fill in the gaps otherwise), and I'm on the lookout for Flex Mentallo. I will buy trades, if the companies involved would publish them…

carson dial, Saturday, 31 January 2004 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, Carson - I have some extra copies of various Black Panther issues, if you're looking.

David R. (popshots75`), Sunday, 1 February 2004 04:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't buy, I don't download - I just read in Comic Shops. Half an hour on a friday and I've gotten my fix for the week. I'm not proud.

But - apart from that £3 for 30 pages rationalisation, I resent paying £3 for a 5 minute read.

I do buy the occasional TPB or HC....

David Nolan (David N.), Monday, 2 February 2004 02:21 (twenty-two years ago)

David R.- I'm on the bad side of being unemployed at the moment, so I'll have to pass, but thank you for the offer…

carson dial, Wednesday, 4 February 2004 00:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Hooray! I managed to find Grant Morrison's New Adventures Of Hitler on slsk. I never thought I'd get hold of that.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 10:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I still haven't downloaded anything, but my girlfriend borrowed hard copies of Flex Mentallo from a friend, so yeah, sweet.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

two months pass...
Yeees! Eightball #1.cbr !!! Look also for cbz-files

Markus K., Friday, 9 April 2004 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

wow

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 10 April 2004 05:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been perusing the alt.binaries.pictures.comics groups for years. For manga it's a whole different story, since there are so many fan translators out there on the web and IRC.

Chris F. (servoret), Saturday, 10 April 2004 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I have now downloaded the file of issue #2 of Preacher (not because Preacher is any good but because it was one of the smallest).

You don't like Preacher, Tom?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Sunday, 11 April 2004 04:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Holy rollers, comix have been torrented!

The Dreaded Rear Admiral (Leee), Saturday, 17 July 2004 04:15 (twenty-one years ago)

nine months pass...
I went to the store yesterday, but I've missed a few titles since it was the first time in a couple months since I've gone shopping. They had Y #32, but not 31, and it doesn't look like I'll be able to download it soon. Does anyone have a cbr or someother file?

Organized Crime (Leee), Saturday, 30 April 2005 23:08 (twenty-one years ago)

so uh where are the straightforward comics torrents these days?

tom west (thomp), Sunday, 1 May 2005 02:53 (twenty-one years ago)

google zcult. that tracker's still around I think. Also, I'm tellin ya, DC++ is still the best way. So easy too, I don't know why people don't do it. Get the program, search the default hublist for "comics". Easy peasy.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Monday, 2 May 2005 07:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Suffering Sappho!
I totally forgot about this when I got my new computer two weeks ago. I've been too busy scanning in Green Arrow THE FINGER panels to pass on to my heirs should my apt. get flooded before they are conceived.
