For me:

SPEAK OF THE DEVIL #5--more bloodshed! more Beto!
ALL STAR SUPERMAN #10--oh, they still publish this?
JACK KIRBY'S FOURTH WORLD OMNIBUS VOL. 4--supposedly including the original version of "The Hunger Dogs"
DAREDEVIL #106--Brubaker and Rucka, together again at last
MIGHTY AVENGERS #11--Mark Bagley, you speed demon, you
NEW AVENGERS #39--David Mack, you slowpoke, you
WORLD WAR HULK AFTERSMASH: DAMAGE CONTROL #3--adored the first two issues of this
THE EDUCATION OF HOPEY GLASS HC--less bloodshed! more Jaime!
GANGES #2--seriously, I think Kevin Huizenga is my favorite cartoonist currently working

Douglas, Monday, 24 March 2008 19:47 (seventeen years ago)

All Star Superman 10 -- Not a bad issue so far
Daredevil 106 -- Rucka gives me an excuse to try this out again
Green Lantern 29 -- What the hell

Chuck_Tatum, Monday, 24 March 2008 19:52 (seventeen years ago)

Incidentally, wasn't the lack of George Perez on B&B totally crushing last week?

Garrett Martin, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:11 (seventeen years ago)

Speak of the Devil
ASS
Jack of Fables
She-Hulk

This constitutes a huge week for me!

THE EDUCATION OF HOPEY GLASS HC--less bloodshed! more Jaime!

Huh, anyone know what this reprints? I read the blurb on the Fantagraphics site and some of it doesn't sound familiar, but I thought I had read everything.

Jordan, Monday, 24 March 2008 22:03 (seventeen years ago)

Wait, is this all Love & Rockets 2.0 material???

Jordan, Monday, 24 March 2008 22:04 (seventeen years ago)

Yes exactly. "Day By Day with Hopey" and the recent Ray/Frogmouth stuff.

Douglas, Monday, 24 March 2008 22:54 (seventeen years ago)

Sal Buscema:1970s::Mark Bagley:present day, discuss!

Also, Marvel-b0Y -- actual production scut or viral marketing ploy?

Rock Hardy, Monday, 24 March 2008 23:58 (seventeen years ago)

GREEN LANTERN #29- It will be interesting to see how Geoff Johns plays out retelling the Hal Jordan/Green Lantern origin story. I think it is safe to say there will be a whole lot of Sinestro back story told in this one.
BATMAN CONFIDENTIAL #15- Pt. III of The Wrath story and so far this one has been pretty good.
ALL STAR SUPERMAN #10
LEGION OF SUPER HEROES #40- I will eventually get this one, although I am still reading up the start of the series, whose issues have been pretty good.

earlnash, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 01:05 (seventeen years ago)

Last week's list is back up :(

Mordy, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 01:54 (seventeen years ago)

Ooops. Nevermind. Apparently I just had to reload a few times:
ALL STAR SUPERMAN #10
JACK OF FABLES #21
SPIRIT #15
TRANSHUMAN #1: New Hickman! WooWoo!
WOLVERINE FIRST CLASS #1
X-MEN FIRST CLASS VOL 2 #10: Two first classes a month now! Woo!
X-MEN LEGACY #209

Mordy, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 01:56 (seventeen years ago)

yay ASS

that was fast on Apocalypse Nerd trade - I think this doesn't have the Founding Fathers Funnies in though? Will be a fairly stunted reading experience with only the main story and its non-ending I imagine. but the prompt collection makes me hopeful for Speak Of The Devil, which I'm trade-waiting on.

conversely, no rush on Hopey Glass cos I've read the issues, but will grab it if it's in the bookshop at a non-silly price - otherwise direct from Fanta sometime later. so great to see a focus on a finally-acknowledging-her-aging Hopey.

This is a shipping schedule that screams "DON'T ORDER ANY OF THESE FROM US!":
NOV073803 ASTERIX OMNIBUS HC VOL 01 $27.95
NOV073805 ASTERIX OMNIBUS HC VOL 02 $27.95
NOV073802 ASTERIX OMNIBUS SC VOL 01 $19.95
NOV073804 ASTERIX OMNIBUS SC VOL 02 $19.95

I miss Juan Bobillo u_u

What's David's run been like in general?

energy flash gordon, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 04:03 (seventeen years ago)

It's been pretty good -- more like run-of-the-mill PAD (highly readable, equal weight to plot & character stuff, but prone to maybe liking its jokes more than it should), and doesn't hold a candle to his work on X-Factor. Not at all like Slott's run, either -- more superheroic, less interested in minutia and meta shenanigans; Shulkie's a bounty hunter, traipsing around the US of A with a Skrull sidekick -- but perfectly OK. The art, on the other hand, tends to remind me of late-80s Marvel fill-in stuff by boring workmanlike guys like Tom Morgan, which just bums me out. Put a decent storyteller on this book that might or might not have a thing for cleavage (Joe Bennett?), and this thing becomes 100% more enjoyable.

David R., Tuesday, 25 March 2008 04:21 (seventeen years ago)

All Star Superman #10
Transhuman #1
Ultimate Human #3

It would appear, from the previous posts, that almost everybody loves a bit of ASS. Look, someone had to say it...

Stone Monkey, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 11:02 (seventeen years ago)

Here at I Love Comics, we only get ASS two or three times a year.

SPEAK O/T DEVIL #5 (OF 6) - when this turned all violent last issue, I got a lot less interested.
ALL STAR SUPERMAN #10 - like a warm blanket and a mug of soup
BLUE BEETLE #25 - is this the end???
SHOWCASE PRESENTS BOOSTER GOLD TP VOL 01 - really? no, probably not.
SPIRIT #15 - whistle
SHE-HULK 2 #27 - whistle some more

Dr. Superman, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 17:06 (seventeen years ago)

Green Lantern: Year One will be full of hints toward Sinestro Corps, which will be retroactive foreshadowing. Which is pretty much everything I can't stand about Green Lantern comics these days.

Dr. Superman, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 17:09 (seventeen years ago)

She-Hulk is still pretty good, but if keeps being as emo as the last couple issues then I'll probably drop it. ;_;

Jordan, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 17:19 (seventeen years ago)

What Jordan said. I've already cut bait on the Spirit (even though PAUL SMITH is doing some art) because, um, I need more Iron Man titles on my mondo-sized pull list, and if this is JR's last issue of Blue Beetle, then I cannot run away fast enough.

David R., Tuesday, 25 March 2008 17:33 (seventeen years ago)

But what if it's still good afterwards?

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 18:09 (seventeen years ago)

It's a DC title going to a writer whose work has meh'd me out (at its best) in the past. I'm hedging my bets on "still good" not happening.

BTW, I imagine folks don't care, but the first post-Simone issue of All-New Atom manages to run full-bore into every trap and stumbling block that Simone sidestepped or skirted. Even the talking head sucks now.

David R., Tuesday, 25 March 2008 18:23 (seventeen years ago)

yeah - Remender's first Atom issue is a bummer. It's not like the book was consistently great under Simone, or anything, but it was at least relatively unique. This new angst-ridden, "my fantastical dream life totally blows!" direction is none too inspiring.

Garrett Martin, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 18:52 (seventeen years ago)

Wahey! Just found this.

Chuck_Tatum, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 19:08 (seventeen years ago)

will someone please tell me why I'm not reading Omega???

Dr. Superman, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 02:12 (seventeen years ago)

Because it's not a Lethem book - it's a Lethem as comic book fan book. And Lethem is much more interesting as the former.

(At least, that's why I'm not really enjoying it.)

Mordy, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 02:36 (seventeen years ago)

Don't listen to Mordy. It is very enjoyable if you're willing to give it enough space to meander (and enough time -- took me 3 months before I really started liking it).

David R., Wednesday, 26 March 2008 03:40 (seventeen years ago)

Fair enough. I really haven't bothered since the 3rd issue - so maybe the 4th month is the magic number.

Mordy, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 12:36 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, Omega's one of those infinite-patience / wait-for-the-trade type of books.

David R., Wednesday, 26 March 2008 13:31 (seventeen years ago)

I'm enjoying it! The last ish was the best yet.

Is that cover w/the sentinels from the o.g. Omega?

Jordan, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 14:30 (seventeen years ago)

That's Gary Panter's art for the current mini! He's contributing art to the next issue! I think!

David R., Wednesday, 26 March 2008 14:52 (seventeen years ago)

OMEGA is more promising than I'd originally thought. Which, ironically, is why I'm waiting on the trade.

Were I going to a store this week, it'd probably only be HOUSEWIVES AT PLAY #18.

Just kidding! ALL-STAR SUPERMAN, though I'm not as fond of the second half of the arc as I was of the first.

Matt M., Wednesday, 26 March 2008 16:18 (seventeen years ago)

This week's ALL-STAR SUPES includes a major curveball. 'Sall I'm saying.

Douglas, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 21:03 (seventeen years ago)

I guess no one is reading Batman & the Outsiders? MAJOR, um, blurgh in the last three issues, which I just read. Geo-Force got transferred from the JLA. And everybody's favourite dead couple from 52 returns.

Dr. Superman, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 21:10 (seventeen years ago)

Looking forward to it, Douglas. Actually ended up at a store today and grabbed that, ZANGO, and the Fred Van Lente history of comics thing (which I don't think is new.) Oh yeah, and SHOWCASE: METAMORPHO (which looks utterly unhinged and just what I could use more of.)

Matt M., Wednesday, 26 March 2008 21:48 (seventeen years ago)

Is anyone still reading Countdown? The cover of this week's seems to suggest stuff actually happens inside (NYC aflame, etc, with cliched picture of Statue of Liberty). Can anyone confirm?

James Morrison, Thursday, 27 March 2008 00:52 (seventeen years ago)

This week's Countdown = Secret Origin of nu-Kamandi

Dr. Superman, Thursday, 27 March 2008 05:18 (seventeen years ago)

Wolverine First Class is a misnomer. It's really Wolverine + Kitty First Class. If they intend to write Kitty in every issue (and the back page for this issue certainly suggests she's going to stick around) I'm really happy. Might even make up for the fact she's probably not gonna be in normal MarvelU stuff for awhile. (Also - she sports a conspicuous magen dovid every other page! Woo!)

Mordy, Thursday, 27 March 2008 06:46 (seventeen years ago)

And everybody's favourite dead couple from 52 returns.

That talking croc and Isis' brother?!?!??!?!

David R., Thursday, 27 March 2008 12:57 (seventeen years ago)

Nice, All Star Supes back on form and then some.

Chuck_Tatum, Thursday, 27 March 2008 15:16 (seventeen years ago)

I bought Berlin, mainly because I am just back from Berlin. This is the second non-consecutive issue I have bought. It's a funny title, it seems very vignettey rather than possessed of an overall narrative, but maybe that's what you get when you dip into it.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Friday, 28 March 2008 14:45 (seventeen years ago)

I had the best comics week ever (cuz I skipped last week)

CapAm: I love Tony Stark.
ASS: I love Superman, especially when he SHOOTS TINY SUPERMEN OUT OF HIS FINGERS (just like one of the stories in the first Showcase Prez)
B&B: Okay, still good, I guess.
Blue Beetle: I think I'm just gonna stop reading now (might get the Spanish issue, though) because this issue was beautiful and it wrapped everything up and everything paid off and it can only downhill.
