seriously i know you guys like to read secret invasion and strangers in paradise and watch yr john adams miniseries but you are missing out on some gestures towards THRILLS here in countdown lately.

balls, Thursday, 10 April 2008 16:22 (seventeen years ago)

When the gestures become actual THRILLS, I'll give a hoot.

David R., Thursday, 10 April 2008 16:53 (seventeen years ago)

Gestures, hah! What use does Doom have of mere gestures?!

Matt M., Thursday, 10 April 2008 17:09 (seventeen years ago)

daver you turn yr back on the weekly lately shockingly SHOCKINGLY consistent thrillpower of COUNTDOWN verily like st peter sucking them 3 cocks before dawn. HAVE FUN W/ YR HALFASSED BATTLESTAR GALACTICA RETREADS MARVEL MARYS - I'LL HAVE FUN WATCHING SUPERMAN BE ALL 'DARKSEID IT'S BOUT TIME I PUT YOU DOWN' (EXACT QUOTE ALMOST) AND THEN POW POW AND THEN DARKSEID GOES 'KRYPTONIAN PLZ' AND TURNS JIMMY OLSEN INTO KRYPTONITE OLSEN AND THEN THE ATOM IS IN THE OLSENS BRAIN AND GOES 'O MAN HE'S TURNED INTO KRYPTONITE - WHAT IF I YANK ON THIS PART OF HIS BRAIN' AND THEN ANTIBODIES ATTACK THE ATOM AND THEN JIMMY OLSEN TURNS INTO GIANT TURTLE OLSEN AND HE'S ALL 'DARKSEID YAH TRICK YAH' CUZ IT IS ON WHOOEE REPURCUSSIONS.

balls, Thursday, 10 April 2008 17:24 (seventeen years ago)

Okay is that actually what is happening????? Because that's insane.

HI DERE, Thursday, 10 April 2008 17:29 (seventeen years ago)

if the writers were any good (note: theyaint) they would have superman just outloud say 'man wtf am i doing - i'm SUPERMAN. i can just KILL YOU.' but instead it's vaguer and snarkier. the snark = wit is a flaw, truth be told if they made the comic dumber it'd be alot smarter.

balls, Thursday, 10 April 2008 17:40 (seventeen years ago)

The problem is that awesome scenario is probably being written by Palmiott & Grey & Bedard & Beechen & other servicable killjoys, and thereby has all the YAH TRICK YAH fun sucked out of it. Ergo, hell no, wake me when Chronos calls Black Canary a trifling bitch.

[xpost in point]

David R., Thursday, 10 April 2008 17:43 (seventeen years ago)

assumption is the final of all crises daver

balls, Thursday, 10 April 2008 17:48 (seventeen years ago)

I just asked my Magic 8 Ball if I should buy the final few issues of COUNTDOWN.

The answer: NEED MORE OPTIONS

?!?!?!??!

David R., Thursday, 10 April 2008 17:58 (seventeen years ago)

Does that mean I should buy the final few and any crossovers?!?

David R., Thursday, 10 April 2008 18:01 (seventeen years ago)

woah woah woah woah woah i never said anyone should BUY countdown. seriously pick a number between 6 and 8 and then start with that issue (cuz see they countdown eh eh) and then 'use other means'.

balls, Thursday, 10 April 2008 18:03 (seventeen years ago)

this issue features bonus MAHNKE-lipped Amazo!

Dr. Superman, Thursday, 10 April 2008 19:59 (seventeen years ago)

OK, see, DC's usage of MAHNKE-lips is Exhibit A1 of Why They Are Up That Creek: the guy goes from one of the Superman titles to JLA to Batman ... to a (great but DOA) Wildstorm title ... to a Black Adam mini-series?

David R., Thursday, 10 April 2008 20:04 (seventeen years ago)

Oh, but wait, they brought back Golden Age wonk (& LXG scripter!) James Robinson to write Superman & a new JL title! Yay!

David R., Thursday, 10 April 2008 20:23 (seventeen years ago)

That's what we all said about Paul Dini on Countdown. And James Robinson on Batman/Detective.

Dr. Superman, Thursday, 10 April 2008 20:25 (seventeen years ago)

My "yay" was totally sarcastic -- I've been pooing on JR for almost 39 years now, and that's a long time. Tho I was stoked for Dini on COUNTDOWN.

plzplz. Don't act like Countdown didn't earn its reputation after a year of SUCKING.

Mordy, Thursday, 10 April 2008 22:12 (seventeen years ago)

It's interesting that the title and premise of Trinity isn't tied in with the 52 week concept like Countdown or 52 -- does that make it (deliberately) more open to early cancellation?

Chuck_Tatum, Thursday, 10 April 2008 22:28 (seventeen years ago)

hahahahahaha that panel, wau

HI DERE, Thursday, 10 April 2008 22:47 (seventeen years ago)

it's the sound effect that makes it for me.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

"James Robinson on Batman/Detective"

While I still cannot get my head around to why at this point Batman would ask Harvey Dent to keep an eye on Gotham, I have come to like that story on re-reading it. The big picture is a bit weird, but there are some really nice smaller moments and characterization in the Face to Face story. The way he used Jason Bard was pretty cool and something that I think the other Batman writers could have picked up on.

It is still way better than the Batman stories that led up to One Year Later, which have more unanswered plot lines than you can shake a stick at.

As for the whole Olsen killing Darkseid, I have no idea, as other than a couple of crossovers in the Superman books dealing with Jimmy Olsen (and which were not bad), I have not read anything tied to Countdown.

Chuck_Tatum, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 07:05 (seventeen years ago)

There's an Englehart/Milgrom issue of Captain Marvel (the Kree dude) where Drax buggy-whips Mar-vell face first into a couple of asteroids -- by far the most violent comic I'd ever seen up to that time. I'd post a scan if I weren't in deadline crunch mode.

But as for the thread question, wow, thrillpower!

Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 16 April 2008 21:28 (seventeen years ago)
