Suckers can check here eventually, but I'm jumping the gun! (Italics means I ain't buying, FWIW.)
GRENDEL BEHOLD THE DEVIL #6 (OF 8) -- waiting until it's finished; outlook so far = sadface
FLASH #239 -- Peyer's 1st issue wasn't bad! PROGRAMME #10 (OF 12) -- this, OTOH, I'm just buying out the string on; hope it reads better in one sitting (if I ever bother to try) SUPERMAN #675 (NOTE PRICE) -- ha ha more like NOTE ME NOT BUYING IT TANGENT SUPERMANS REIGN #2 (OF 12) -- seriously, stop listening to Newsarama posters when planning future releases
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #557 -- Bachalo micro-scribbles notwithstanding, FUN! ANNIHILATION CONQUEST #6 (OF 6) -- ULTRON! WARLOCK! ANOTHER ADAM WARLOCK! GROOT! You know you want it! AVENGERS INITIATIVE #11 -- adding to my "thinking about thinking about dropping" list CAPTAIN AMERICA #37 -- well duh GHOST RIDER #22 -- if you only read one book this month featuring wacked out zaftig ladyfolk in tight-fitting nurse uniforms not published by Avatar... INCREDIBLE HERCULES #116 -- GRRRRRRG! IRON MAN #28 -- am liking what the Knaufs have done over the past year+, but I can't remember if this is the penultimate or final chapter of the long-running Mandarin hoedown WORLD WAR HULK AFTERSMASH WARBOUND #5 (OF 5) - PKKKKKKK! X-FACTOR #30 -- best X-book by far X-MEN DIVIDED WE STAND #1 (OF 2) -- if only this had a chromatic linticular blood-splattered 1-in-100 cover by Marat Mychaels, so I could really feel like a jerk for buying this...

BTW, I don't know if the aforementioned DougFriend Warlock is making an appearance in ANNIHILATION, but he was featured prominently in the recent NOVA x-over, so chances are maybe?
BTW, a No-Prize to the 1st 299 folks that can tell me what S.H.I.P. stands for.

"Eisner-nominated writer Brad Meltzer"
― Dr. Superman, Monday, 14 April 2008 15:49 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah, of all the things that issue could've been nominated for (i.e. not many), that's probably the one nod it didn't deserve.
― David R., Monday, 14 April 2008 15:50 (seventeen years ago)
It's not even close to being as good as the Homicide episode it rips off (ie, no Vincent D'Onofrio, torn in half--though I guess that's Johns' bailiwick).
― Dr. Superman, Monday, 14 April 2008 15:58 (seventeen years ago)
OK, so which DC writer does NOT rip off Homicide? Chuck Dixon?
― David R., Monday, 14 April 2008 16:21 (seventeen years ago)
Batman & the Outsiders (current) = Homicide
Batman: Lt. Giardello (especially when he punches lockers) Batgirl: Det. John Munch Green Arrow: Det. Stanley "Big Man" Bolander Geo-Force: Det. Beau Felton Metamorpho: Det. Kay Howard Ghost of Ralph Dibny: Det. Frank Pembleton Ghost of Sue Dibny: Det. Tim Bayliss

Whither Meldrick Lewis!!!!?!?!
― David R., Monday, 14 April 2008 17:12 (seventeen years ago)
And Crosetti!?!!?
― Oilyrags, Monday, 14 April 2008 17:25 (seventeen years ago)
This may need to be a poll.
The Which Homicide Character Matches Which Character Stuck In The Presumably Shitty Batman & The Outsiders Book?
― David R., Monday, 14 April 2008 17:30 (seventeen years ago)
Poll?
― David R., Monday, 14 April 2008 17:33 (seventeen years ago)
I was thinking a simpler 'homicide detective poll' but then realized Pembleton would run the table no probs.
― Oilyrags, Monday, 14 April 2008 17:39 (seventeen years ago)
nothing for me.
― Jordan, Monday, 14 April 2008 19:11 (seventeen years ago)
Re: Meldrick -- No Wire Season 5 spoilers plz
No reason for saying that, but I've lost track of conversations I've had to leave over the past few weeks
― Chuck_Tatum, Monday, 14 April 2008 19:13 (seventeen years ago)
Also, no comics for me, although I missed Criminal last week, so mebbe that
Just FLASH.
― R Baez, Monday, 14 April 2008 19:15 (seventeen years ago)
Spoilers? Sure! Take your pick:
a) Scott Templeton killed The Comedian. b) Omar is the new Captain America. c) Marlo and McNulty are long-lost twin brothers. d) Rawls is their dad.

BRAVE AND THE BOLD #12 FLASH #239 PROGRAMME #10 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #557 AVENGERS INITIATIVE #11 CAPTAIN AMERICA #37 INCREDIBLE HERCULES #116 X-FACTOR #30
my biggest week in a while.
― Garrett Martin, Monday, 14 April 2008 19:35 (seventeen years ago)
BRAVE AND THE BOLD #12--apparently the Megistus plot comes to a Perez-less conclusion... CAPTAIN AMERICA #37--weirdly I'm starting to lose interest now that Cap has reappeared HOWARD THE DUCK TP MEDIA DUCKLING--read the first issue and liked it a bunch--Ty Templeton really has a grasp on what makes Howard comics work INCREDIBLE HERCULES #116--still lightweight but super-enjoyable
Also: holy crap, the AMERICAN FLAGG hardcover set is actually going to be in stores!
Also also: wtf, still no SECRET INVASION tie-ins?
― Douglas, Monday, 14 April 2008 19:36 (seventeen years ago)
Ahhh -- add BRAVE & BOLD, DMZ, and POWERS ANNUAL (why the hell am I still buying this?) to my list of pull.
― David R., Monday, 14 April 2008 19:52 (seventeen years ago)
Is there a SECRET INVASION thread? I can't find it, and the 1st issue was actually pretty damn good! Best non-Spidey BMB in a loooong time. I look forward to watching the pooch get screwed over the next half-year.
― David R., Monday, 14 April 2008 19:55 (seventeen years ago)
Is there a SECRET INVASION thread?
Yes, but its cover hasn't been blown yet.
― Dr. Superman, Monday, 14 April 2008 20:16 (seventeen years ago)
PS, not worth it in HC (though I don't think anything is), but DIGGLE/JOCK GAY1, er Green Arrow Year One, is collected this week. VERY GOOD and absolutely not tied in to anything.
― Dr. Superman, Monday, 14 April 2008 20:18 (seventeen years ago)
What Clark said.
― David R., Monday, 14 April 2008 20:26 (seventeen years ago)
Tony Stark - McNulty Renee Montoya - Kima Greggs Batman - Omar Lex Luthor - Stringer zombie Daredevil - Marlo etc.
― Jordan, Monday, 14 April 2008 20:44 (seventeen years ago)
I'd agree that Green Arrow Yr 1 is a lot of fun, and that it's still not worth $25 bucks for a hardcover.

Woo. Lot of good stuff this week. DMZ = great. Sword = fun. Incred Herc = Awesomesauce. X-Factor = Best X-Title alive. And DWS = X-Men fun in the sun supersweetness.
― Mordy, Monday, 14 April 2008 22:26 (seventeen years ago)
I seem to remember buying more comics regularly, but in the past couple weeks, the number of books I buy has dropped dramatically without me dropping anything. WTF.
Anyway:
The Programme, Captain America, X-Factor, and X-Men: Divided We Stand
― Mr. Perpetua, Monday, 14 April 2008 23:00 (seventeen years ago)
Nothing, but keen for reviews on the quality of Flagg repro/recolouring in case it ever goes to paperback before I find the issues I still don't have. Or the issues I do have, so I can work out which issues I do need.
Already picked up Jeffrey Brown's Little Things and Karl Stevens' Whatever this week, plus (non-comics) Gaiman's Odd And The Frost Giants.

Kind of off-topic, but yesterday I tried to read the 'Squadron Supreme' TPB I've had floating round here for a few years. Shit, that was bad. I thought it was meant to be 1) IMPORTANT and 2) GOOD but it was poo in a poo sauce. And I love the way Marvel stick stupid ads inside their TPBs, so after wading through 300 pages of crap I see an out-of-date plug for Hulk- and Spiderman-shaped ice-blocks.

SUPERMAN #675 - This is the concluding issue of Kurt Busiek's run. PROGRAMME #10 (OF 12)- I've liked this mini-series quite a bit and don't quite see how it is all going to tie up. GOTHAM UNDERGROUND #7
I'd be kind of tempted on getting those early issues of American Flagg in a trade, as the early issue of that one are printed on standard newsprint paper in the 80s. Having those printed on some nice stock paper would certainly brighten things up and probably look sharp. That is one thing about all of those 80s books that were printed on the nice baxter paper that DC and a bunch of Indies used quite a bit (Marvel only used it for the Epic line), they don't look much different twenty plus years later than they did when they were first published.

I showed up for another 2-issue week (2nd one this month!), but left with Showcase Legion #2, which makes me very happy.
