I can't believe we never had a thread about this! In honor of the news that the new Spawn team will feature TWO of the original Image founders! Also, I was reading the McFarlane thread in the archives. Also, LOL Spawn.

It was a pretty spectacular cape, you have to adimt.

I bought the stupid book (and spinoffs - VIOLATOR!) for nearly 2 years, so yeah, I'll adimt to that. Always wanted to know what the hell that X:Y:Z:A crap at the bottom of certain panels was supposed to mean.

I thought it was always more about the chains. Did McF ever do a wonder woman comic with her golden lasso getting all spidey-webby/spawn-chainy?

Oilyrags, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 15:36 (seventeen years ago)

I hope not (tho he might've had a chance to get at her rope when he co-drew Invasion).

"get at her rope" must've appeared in some tampon-focused slash somewhere.

RED CARD

HI DERE, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 15:54 (seventeen years ago)

The only Spawniverse stuff I ever bought was the four issues of co-authored stuff from Moore/Gaiman/Miller/Sim. I barely remember any of it now. Just the Sim one, with the tearful demon holding up the baby and superman in jail and stuff.

so spawn has been quietly rolling on and selling to middle schoolers all this time, huh?

Always wanted to know what the hell that X:Y:Z:A crap at the bottom of certain panels was supposed to mean.

I also bought the first 21 or so issues, before dropping it. I believe (having given those issues to a pal, and not being able to check) that that was a countdown for Spawn's time running out, and his soul going to hell. At least in those early days (is it different now?), the big tease was that his power was finite and every use brought him closer to (duh duh DUM) damnation.

Spawn's cape, Rob Liefeld's megaguns, Image excess.

I thought Spawn was pretty deep when it first came out when I was 14. Ha.

I remember reading a few issues when Spawn began, but stopped reading when it came to an issue where Spawn tortured and murdered this pedophile guy, who didn't even look like a human being rather than a demon, and left his body with a note that said "the little girls aren't crying anymore" or something like that. Seriously, that was the worst vigilante revenge fantasy I've ever seen in a comic book, a lot worse than anything Miller has ever come up with.
