I started reading the run tonight (starting with the first trade) and find it pretty incomprehensible. I think I need a rundown of the history of the characters. Like is this Randell-Rand thing citing previous events? Can someone give me a quick primer?

IMMORTAL IRON FIST was the first IRON FIST comic I'd ever read and I found it all quite comprehensible.

Not knocking you, though (came across that way, didn't it?). Everything we learn about Orson is in the flashbacks - the Rand/Randall name connection is never spelled out, but the reasons for it are made implicit by issue six or so.
They even do the "Starman" thing and have issues devoted to previous IFs - the first of those, issue 7, may be my fave of the series.
