Anything new on the graphic novel scene lately?
I'm still waiting to write my own graphic novel someday.
― CaptainLorax, Sunday, 18 May 2008 05:53 (sixteen years ago) link
Apparently someone has written an autobiographical graphic novel about their life.
― The Real Dirty Vicar, Sunday, 18 May 2008 10:56 (sixteen years ago) link
I hear they're writing comics for grown-ups these days.
― chap, Sunday, 18 May 2008 13:49 (sixteen years ago) link
Sounds ludicrous to me.
All you need to do is write them, you know. Any old artist will do. I hear most of them will work for free, too!
― Douglas, Sunday, 18 May 2008 16:33 (sixteen years ago) link
Apparently there are writers who scratch out their own art themselves now.
― The Real Dirty Vicar, Sunday, 18 May 2008 23:08 (sixteen years ago) link
I think they should make some comics into films.
― chap, Sunday, 18 May 2008 23:21 (sixteen years ago) link
also, there are "moving graphic novels" these days, where images are "animated" using futuristic technology (possibly developed by the Soviets) to give the illusion of "life". You can watch them on the Moving Graphic Novel Box on Saturday mornings.

That is just crazy... what do they do with the speech balloons?
― The Real Dirty Vicar, Monday, 19 May 2008 12:11 (sixteen years ago) link
Recycled as ploughshares and shipped out to the collective farms.

POW! BIFF! Comics aren't just for kids anymore!
― forksclovetofu, Monday, 19 May 2008 16:36 (sixteen years ago) link
Have you guys read the one about the insecure teenager who grows up and gets laid but has to abandon some youthful illusions?
― Oilyrags, Monday, 19 May 2008 17:05 (sixteen years ago) link
Graphic novels! So simple, even a caveman can do it!
― Matt M., Monday, 19 May 2008 17:18 (sixteen years ago) link
.... you are all bastards.
― Nhex, Monday, 19 May 2008 18:20 (sixteen years ago) link
...but thanks to this thread I love you...
― hyggeligt, Monday, 19 May 2008 19:38 (sixteen years ago) link
In the distant future graphic novels will be as enjoyable as superhero comics to strictly comic book fans.
― CaptainLorax, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 06:56 (sixteen years ago) link
It would be genuinely great if in the future you started getting magazine articles with titles like "Graphic Novels - they are not all just family memoirs!"
― The Real Dirty Vicar, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 09:46 (sixteen years ago) link
"hush! hmm! err!"

anything new
― CaptainLorax, Friday, 11 July 2008 05:45 (sixteen years ago) link
I just got into AGE OF BRONZE
― El Tomboto, Friday, 11 July 2008 05:51 (sixteen years ago) link
thanks, nyt review of books
I am reading the 80s Question reprints. They're a great counterpoint to O'Neill's 70s GL/GA stuff in terms of how, um, tactfully he'd learned to write socially relevant superhero FITE.
― Dr. Superman, Friday, 11 July 2008 06:28 (sixteen years ago) link
Age of Bronze is pretty dope. I have a 310 dollar amazong order, should i hit buy, circle one Y or N:

340 if I throw in the 63-66 Peanuts box set; I really need to get some new bookshelves before i do this.

And the answer is I don't drink or smoke weed; this is where the money goes.
The correct answer is "start drinking and/or smoking weed".

But tru!
― forksclovetofu, Friday, 11 July 2008 19:58 (sixteen years ago) link
...but have you ever read Love and Rockets, on weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed?
― Oilyrags, Friday, 11 July 2008 20:03 (sixteen years ago) link
actually, no. I don't think I've ever read comix whilst altered.
― forksclovetofu, Friday, 11 July 2008 20:55 (sixteen years ago) link
L&R doesn't really benefit from it. But stuff with wacky art or concepts (Morrison/Quitely to thread!) can be even funner.
― Oilyrags, Friday, 11 July 2008 20:57 (sixteen years ago) link
Just read "Education of Hopey Glass" overandover, Forks. Save money, have more fun...
― Douglas, Friday, 11 July 2008 22:56 (sixteen years ago) link
Already have! This is just an ownership thang.
― forksclovetofu, Saturday, 12 July 2008 15:12 (sixteen years ago) link
You can probably get a chunk of that stuff from the NYPL, forks.
― ian, Saturday, 12 July 2008 19:38 (sixteen years ago) link
and use the money you save to have a nice dinner out, or go on a binge at the new(ish) Picturebox shop in Gowanus.
― ian, Saturday, 12 July 2008 19:39 (sixteen years ago) link
Wait wait wait - 12 volumes of Phoenix are out!? When did this happen? Last I checked they only had maybe 4 volumes, and it was totally out of order and crap and I thought they gave up on it or something.
