Seriously, comix would have to be my #1 non-essential money sink (unless "ordering take-out / delivery because I'm too lazy to shop for groceries" counts), but my patience moreso than my wallet's been wearing thin wrt certain flaccid tentpole events. Also, I'm thinking about taking up heavy drinking.

Also, I'm thinking about taking up heavy drinking.
Crossover events tend to be highly satisfying in that context, I find.

Just Daredevil and Final Crisis for me. I'm hoping for more low-key setup in FC 2, if only to continue annoying the nerds at my store.
― Chuck_Tatum, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:43 (sixteen years ago) link
FC and CapAm for me, plus Superman. Is this Robinson's first issue? It might be my last! Am planning on giving up the floppies altogether when Final Crisis #7 arrives, currently expected around the same time as the arrival as my first born child.
― Dr. Superman, Monday, 23 June 2008 21:14 (sixteen years ago) link
Real list is up now at Diamond!
For me:
FINAL CRISIS #2--I am seriously, genuinely excited about this MADAME XANADU #1--the advance art looked intriguing SUPERMAN #677--okay, Robinson, impress me TRINITY #4--clinging on CAPTAIN AMERICA #39--by an even thinner thread DAREDEVIL #108--oh, the halcyon days of Gotham Central MIGHTY AVENGERS #15--plot? what was that? NEW AVENGERS #42--both in the SAME week?!

Woohoo, I thought that was going to be a much heavier week than it was. YES, I KNOW, STILL BUYING THE ULTIMATES. It might turn out to be important for Ultimatum though.
Am I the only one buying 1985? I really enjoyed the first issue.

So if it turns out to enhance people's enjoyment of Ultimatum, go back and buy it then! No reason to buy crappy comics because they "might be important later."

FINAL CRISIS #2 - I am seriously, genuinely excited about Douglas explaining this to me. JACK OF FABLES #23 TRINITY #4 CAPTAIN AMERICA #39 DAREDEVIL #108 IMMORTAL IRON FIST #1 MIGHTY AVENGERS #15 RUNAWAYS #30 SECRET INVASION RUNAWAYS YOUNG AVENGERS #1 THUNDERBOLTS #121 ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #123 UNCANNY X-MEN #499 WOLVERINE FIRST CLASS #4 X-MEN LEGACY #213
As usual, a lot of these will probably be left behind. The only definites are Runaways (Goodbye, Joss. Hello someone who can make deadlines), Final Crisis, Uncanny, and Immortal Iron Fist.

FINAL CRISIS #2 (OF 7) GREEN LANTERN #32 SUPERMAN #677 PROGRAMME #12 (OF 12)-- I'm curious to see how this one will end. TRINITY #4 FEAR AGENT #22 1 AGAINST 1 (PT 1 OF 6)-- I'll eventually get this one. Fear Agent is a fun book.
maybe...
CONAN THE CIMMERIAN #0 - I've been curious about Dark Horse's Conan books and this might be a good chance to jump on board.

Why everything has to come out all in one weeks!??!
Final Crisis (the only comic I'm genuinely excited about this week)
Mighty Avengers New Avengers Avengers Initiative Runaways/New Avengers Ms. Marvel (Get good soon, Secret Invasion. I'm warning you.)
Uncanny X-Men X-Men: Legacy (This weekend, I started a marathon X-read-through, from Decimation on (since that's about where my X-interest last waned). Once I'm totes caught up, I guess I'll decide whether it's worth continuing to support the X-books financially.)
My rent may be about to double, so it may be time for some harsh critical evaluation. But then my income may also be about to double, so maybe I'll just say fuck it.

(just Final Crisis for me, I think)
― Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 07:10 (sixteen years ago) link
Just sat on a porch and read Final Crisis 2. If anything it seems even more likely to irritate folks than the first issue, but I pretty much loved it.
― Chuck_Tatum, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 16:47 (sixteen years ago) link
Although I'll wager that it's the first DC comic with a David Croft and Jimmy Perry reference in it. (It's the obvious joke you've already thought of -- maybe it appeared in issue 1 too.)
― Chuck_Tatum, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 16:52 (sixteen years ago) link
Well, yeah. I don't count on the minor crossovers for that. Bendis needs to hold up his end, though, for sure.
― Deric W. Haircare, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 19:02 (sixteen years ago) link
MM has been a totally enjoyable biff-bang book -- co-opting Warren Ellis' baudy version of Machine Man (from Nextwave) hasn't hurt, either!
― David R., Wednesday, 25 June 2008 19:16 (sixteen years ago) link
When does he enter? I read about the first half-dozen issues, I think? It was "Is someone I care about in no way actually a Hydra agent?" then I quit.
― Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 23:05 (sixteen years ago) link
Sometime during the Civil War x-overs (or right after, I think) -- Ms. Marvel is put in charge of her own SHIELD task force, and because she's Ms. Marvel, she ends up w/ Machine Man, Sleepwalker (purple / green alien guy that only appears when his human host is asleep), and Arana (mystic spider-powered teen that does stuff). And maybe Wonder Man, too -- can't recall.
― David R., Wednesday, 25 June 2008 23:13 (sixteen years ago) link
Oh, Marvel you overly competitive rascals.
This is what I bought:
Final Crisis Green Lantern Superman Teen Titans The Programme Uncanny X-Men X-Men Legacy Daredevil Captain America New Avengers Mighty Avengers Runaways Thunderbolts Fantastic Four

Final Crisis was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good.

I really enjoyed the New/Mighty Avengers combo! But yeah, Final Crisis ftw.
― Douglas, Thursday, 26 June 2008 02:16 (sixteen years ago) link
Yeah, using the New & Mighty books to fill in some "how the infiltration went down" is pretty smart. Part of the problem with WWHulk was that the crossovers were all supposedly taking place concurrently with the main story. Too much x-overing. This seems a little more streamlined.

Final Crisis: YESSSSSSSS
― Dr. Superman, Thursday, 26 June 2008 05:41 (sixteen years ago) link
I also bought 1985 (fun fluff!) and Soopaman. Supes was kind of completely unaffecting. I'm realizing that I've never read any non-Starman Robinson that I really liked all that much. And also: Starman isn't really all that hot, in retrospect. So that's probably that.
And yes: FC was one of the more viscerally amazing Morrison single issues in years.
― Deric W. Haircare, Thursday, 26 June 2008 11:58 (sixteen years ago) link
I read Final Crisis #2 a second time before even touching any of the other ten or so comics I bought yesterday.
― Garrett Martin, Thursday, 26 June 2008 13:08 (sixteen years ago) link
Ha, Garrett, I did exactly the same thing! I've read FC three times now, and out of everything else, I've only read X-Men Legacy (wow Carey, you wasted no time undoing Messiah Complex...), Thunderbolts, and Mighty Avengers. Weird that John Romita Jr's name is not on the cover of that last one!
― Mr. Perpetua, Thursday, 26 June 2008 13:31 (sixteen years ago) link
Weird that Marvel seems to be omitting credits from their covers across the board, all of the sudden. It's a weird choice.
I read FC last. It made for a good dessert after choking down a pound of sawdust.
― Deric W. Haircare, Thursday, 26 June 2008 18:44 (sixteen years ago) link
What I Got:
FC: So much awesomeness. Though the John Stewart bit was very confusing and I still don't get it after 2 reads. Brave & Bold: Two of my fave characters, 0 of my fave artists, teetering on the brink of drop Superman: SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO dropable. RASL: Hubba (2x) Captain America: Is it just me, or has this just been one issue repeating itself for the last year? Teen Titans Year One: Pleasant.
