Or needed, for that matter.

Can I humbly submit this thread as the inspiration for the next ship thread title?

Hardly anything coming out this week, compared to last week's deluge:
Secret Invasion: Frontline (The Secret Invasion pile is already as thick as two Essential collections. Sick. Just sick.) X-Men: Manifest Destiny (Written by Carey. Otherwise, I seriously don't think I'd bother.) Green Lantern (Over the past couple of weeks, I've read all of the pre-Sinestro Corps issues of GL and GLC. I'm very taken with them. I think the essence of what makes Johns work at the moment is that he's writing very new-reader-friendly stories that tie into a larger continuity but whose coherence doesn't rely entirely on said continuity. It's very out of step with the way DC had been run for a long time, and it's a large part of the reason why I'm becoming much more pro-DC as Marvel seems to be moving more into the realms of unwieldy and incoherent continuity-fests. I mean, all of the DC stuff I've been reading is fun and fairly self-contained and I generally get what's going on and Who's Who, even though I'm not overly-familiar with the DCU. Whereas I'm a life-long Marvel Zombie and I don't know who half the fuckers in Secret Invasion are or why I should care. Someone has dropped the ball, and someone else has very gracefully picked it up and run with it.) Army @ Love Hellblazer: Chas
And on the 'Maybe...' pile:
Sub-Mariner (A character I don't care about, written by Milligan, who frankly hasn't written a thing worth reading since X-Statix/Human Target... I'm thinking probably not.) X-Men Origins: Beast (Written by Carey, but again: I just don't care that much.) Invasion TPB (I've been wanting to read this for a while, since it's supposed to be one of the better-written DC events, but is it at all coherent sans crossovers?)

Yeah...all the Invasion cross-overs were purely auxiliary stories. Some of them: JLI, Animal Man were mighty fine and worth seeking out. I don't even remember if there were any other crossovers. Oh, there was something in WOnder Woman where she teamed up with Guy Gardner adn either Capt. Atom or Rocket Red...can't remember which...
er, I'm sure long forgotten series like Starman and Power of the Atom had cross-overs, and there was some Snapper Carr one-shot...

This week, just one comic and one trade: Jonah Hex #35 (JHW3! Yes!) and the second Matt Fraction/Iron Fist TPB.

Oh, I will indeed be getting the Love & Rockets book, as if it needs to be said. Although a word of caution to those outside of the know: I believe this is the first "issue" of L&R's new annual, 100-page, $15 a pop format. Worth the money, I'm sure, but a bit pricier than the usual.
