Completely Optimistic Manbat Begins Appreciation Thread

I'm sorry, it was just driving me fucking nuts that the Batman Begins thread was one letter off from being an anagram for COMBAT.

I'd dig a not-quite-the-Justice-League series (by ILC favorite Grant Morrison, of course) with some incarnation of Bizarro, Manbat, Artemis, Adam Strange, Dolphin, John Fox (that other Flash guy) and Jade, though.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 30 July 2004 01:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't figure this warrants its own thread, but I have to admit that I haven't "gotten it" with ILC favo GM yet. I daren't reveal my secret identity, either!

YYY, Friday, 30 July 2004 02:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Grant Morrison isn't halfway near as good as he's made out to be.

Allan Chesterton, Friday, 30 July 2004 06:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Except when he is!

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 30 July 2004 11:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Just like Manbat.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 30 July 2004 11:41 (twenty-one years ago)

So-and-so isn't half as good as blah-de-blah always makes for the least interesting conversation in the universe; so what? Point me to the objective meter, I'll be happy to buy the home model. Some people like things; other people don't; it isn't communicable, and neither side can cough on the other to infect them. The lines for people who actually enjoy making a big thing out of it are over on ILM and your local junior high.

WOWOWOWOW! Huck (et. al.), one of my first comic experiences was w/ one of those record / comic deals that reprinted THAT VERY STORY! It scared the crap out of me - the echoing footsteps, the bat screeching, the ominous soundtrack, the fact that it was a MAN turning into a BAT dressed like MR. HYDE. It was awesome!. (Also, Neal Adams in the 60s & 70s = golden god.)

What're the best Manbat stories out there? Is that Delano / Bolton mini worth a darn?

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha, that reminds me of the Batman book/cassette tape combo I had as a little kid. It made me associate Batman and 'Night on Bald Mountain' for years. There was also something about the "Tunnel of Love," hrmmm.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I think there's a really cool Manbat story in the Batman in the 70s collection. I'll check on that tonight.

Huck, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

this was the first back-issue I ever bought not out of the used bins:
http://scoop.diamondgalleries.com/news_images/2117_5551_1.jpg

I think I paid $1.75 for it in 1988.

Huck, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

IS HE MAN OR MAN-MONSTER OMGLOL!!!111

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm a bit worried that there is MANBAT slash fanfic somewhere, out there, in the ether.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm a bit worried that you read MANBAT slash fanfic, Jocelyn.

Huck, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

uh, that should say "that there may be" not 'is' I don't even want to begin to Google that. Let's just say I ran across some Gargoyles slash once and just made me wonder. I was trying to find goth pics for the ILX thread.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

It was traumatic.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't google up any Manbat slash at all, much less Manbat/Goliath slash, and I'm crushed.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Manbat/Man-Thing/Swamp Thing/Solomon Grundy

Huck, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

narrrated by the Hulk.

Huck, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

HULK SPOON!

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

If this thread overtakes the Batman anticipatory thread, maybe the muckety-mucks at Warner/DC will make a really cool star-studded Manbat picture. Like Catwoman, only not shitty.

Huck, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

How come there was never a Manspider?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Or a Man Martianhunter?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Manhawk?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Wey-ell, Manbat is essentially Batman's Bizarro, as Sinestro is to Green Lantern, as Doc Ock sorta is to Spidey, as Devildare is to Daredevil, as the Turtle and Reverse-Flash (perhaps most blatant example of such) are to the Flash, as Unimpressive Man is to Wonder Woman...(new thread idea?)

Huck, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Wait a sec - are you joshing re: Devildare?

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I just thought I'd slip that one in. Good eye.

Huck, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm happy I wasn't the only person here familiar with Gargoyles.

The Dreaded Rear Admiral (Leee), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

My girlfriend's a fan because of all the Star Trek: TNG voice actors.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

OMG, you guys are nerds!

Huck, Wednesday, 4 August 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

That picture of Jordan's describes my life since graduation so accurately.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I think that sums up all our lives, jocelyn.

Jimmy Carter, History's Greatest Monster (Leee), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
I was actually searching the archives looking for one of the GM-JLA threads (since I read Crisis Times Five last night, despite being under the illusion that I'd read it before, but I guess I had it confused w/ WWIII or something - and I wanted to say that I liked it, even though Porter's art was pretty brutal--but his new Shazam art looks awesome!), is anyone reading (or even buying) the Bruce Jones Man-Bat thang?
The art is very good, and the story is pretty creepy!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 14:57 (nineteen years ago)

I want to see what this picture of Jordan's looks like!
