Let's do a FAQ!

First (and only) question I can come up with so far is, "Why aren't there more discussions about indie comics?"

Which of course would warrant a reply like: "The best way to have more topics about indie comics (or any under-represented topic) is to start them yourself."

We're doing this FAQ democratic-stylee!

Mr. Tony Plow (Leee), Thursday, 12 August 2004 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

What indie comics? Do the ones under Slave Labor count? I like some of those. And my new thing is Arsenic Lullaby.

Vermont Girl (Vermont Girl), Thursday, 12 August 2004 10:18 (twenty-one years ago)

"Why is Jadakiss as hard as it gets?"

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 12 August 2004 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Spoiler etiquette should be a topic.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 12 August 2004 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Q: Why does this guy Martin Skidmore keep saying he knows/knew some of my favourites?
A: He had a very minor career in comics in Britain years ago, so knows or knew lots of that generation of UK creators, plus some others.

(I have had to explain this several times, even though it sounds egocentric.)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 12 August 2004 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

"Why doesn't the CL6 come w/ a clutch?"

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 12 August 2004 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Q: Will I get banned from the forum if I make any snarky comments re: superhero rape?
A: No, but David R. will hunt you down like the spindly dog you are & make you read the Bart Sears _Blade_ series until you can't see.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 12 August 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Bart Sears. Ugh.

Huck, Thursday, 12 August 2004 16:24 (twenty-one years ago)

This may seem obvious, but I assume we'd only want/need a FAQ if we anticipate new, non-ILXor, readers/posters: I'd point out that "Moderation Request" leads to a board read by administrators of several boards, not just ILC; and that this board's moderator is Leeeeeeeeeee.

I don't think I'd specify indie comics in the "why aren't there more threads about [X]" question (I'd just say [X]) since the answer is about more than indie stuff and would be useful even if we had a sudden influx of Comics Journal readers.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 12 August 2004 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

"Why did Alan Moore knock down _Big Numbers_?"

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 12 August 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Why are Vermont Girl and I the only girls on this board?

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 12 August 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I think my girlfriend lurks.

"Why does Huck like the Green Lantern/Arrow?"

A: Link to that one post where he talks about childhood KFC action figures.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 12 August 2004 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Tell 'er to start posting!

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 12 August 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Your girlfriend really asked that?

Huck, Thursday, 12 August 2004 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

No.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 12 August 2004 18:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh.

Huck, Thursday, 12 August 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

It was certainly weighing on my mind though!

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 12 August 2004 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

This may seem obvious, but I assume we'd only want/need a FAQ if we anticipate new, non-ILXor, readers/posters:

Yeah, I was just bored and wanted to flex some mod-muscle. If ILC were to stay cozy, yeah, certainly a FAQ might be superfluous vanity (though Martin's entry seems to be apt, as is our new-fangled spoiler policy), but if we were ever to sell out haha...

I'd point out that "Moderation Request" leads to a board read by administrators of several boards, not just ILC; and that this board's moderator is Leeeeeeeeeee.

I'm dense -- what are you saying? Do you mean to have this sort of FAQy business contained within the Mod Req forum?

I don't think I'd specify indie comics in the "why aren't there more threads about [X]" question (I'd just say [X])

Yeah def, I was thinking about that, but then I was also afraid that there might be a manga titled called [X].

Mr. Tony Plow (Leee), Thursday, 12 August 2004 20:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Q: Does Jordan's girlfriend lurk?
A: Yes.

Madolan, Thursday, 12 August 2004 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm dense -- what are you saying? Do you mean to have this sort of FAQy business contained within the Mod Req forum?

No, sorry -- I mean, just that someone who comes along out of nowhere and doesn't know ILX, if they click on the Moderation Request link at the bottom, they're not going to necessarily realize that it's not an actual message sent to the moderator -- or that nothing is going to indicate they're talking about an ILC problem if they don't point it out themselves. See what I'm saying?

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 12 August 2004 21:53 (twenty-one years ago)

(And hello Jordan's girlfriend!)

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 12 August 2004 21:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Hi and welcome, Madolan!

And Tep: I see. Fortunately we haven't had any issues requiring moderation, but in that case, do you (and others who care to weigh in) think a "Shout at the Mod" thread would be more effective?

Mr. Tony Plow (Leee), Thursday, 12 August 2004 22:45 (twenty-one years ago)

"Why my buzz in L.A. ain't like it is in New York?"

Vermont Girl (Vermont Girl), Friday, 13 August 2004 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

A shout at the mod thread is only of use if you know it's there - the regulars might think to look for same, but others won't, and the regulars are likely to know about the Mod Request Board anyway.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 15 August 2004 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
I've already forgotten which recent thread talked about (additional) FAQ questions, so here let's bandy them about! (Also copy/paste the suggested Qs.)

c(''c) (Leee), Friday, 3 February 2006 20:32 (twenty years ago)

I suppose an ILC FAQ would be the best place to finally put to rest the netwide dilemma of how do I shot web?

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Saturday, 4 February 2006 01:51 (twenty years ago)

Q: Why does ILC have lots of countdown style lists that end at 45? What is the best comic of all time.
A: The Tom Knows.
