Mr. Tony Plow (Leee), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 22:42 (twenty-one years ago)

four months pass...
Help us help you (& us)!

I'm monkeying w/ the categories. Here's what we got so far:

* Anglophilia (16)
* Art (18)
* Artists and Writers (58)
* Classic or Dud? (61)
* Comic Meta (10) - NEW
* European comics (7)
* Film and comics (24)
* ILC Meta (15) - NEW
* Indie (guilt lives on!) (13)
* It\'\'s a bird! It\'\'s a plane! It\'\'s a LIST THREAD! (26)
* Manga (6)
* News, rumors, announcements (3)
* Publishers (7)
* Recommendations (6) - NEW
* Requests For Information (11)
* Shops and buying comics (10)
* Spandex (78)
* Spoiler-filled Discussions (13)
* State of the industry (9)
* Stereotypes in comics (10)
* Strips (3)
* Taking Sides (10)
* Underground comix
* Weekly wrap-up (35)
* You and your comics (32)

I'm thinking there should be a FAQ entry briefly describing some of the more nebulously titled categories. (I'm STILL not sure what "Comic Meta" is, & I just made it!) Also, I love the title of the List category, but the slash-apostrophe is so unseemly.

How about some suggestions, yo?

Is "Strips" newspaper strips?

What is the difference between Indie Guilt and UG comix?

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 8 January 2005 10:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure myself, perhaps RR (who requested the UG) can clarify, though looking back at his original post it seems his(?) beef was with the fact that threads about the underground could've gone under "indie" but were left uncategorized instead.

Yes -- "strips" = newspaper, I'll amend that.

I'll try to fix the List thread slashes, but I have the feeling that it's only going to get worse.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Saturday, 8 January 2005 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I tried doing a double-apostrophe, but that just made for MORE slash-apostrophe madness!

David R. (popshots75`), Saturday, 8 January 2005 20:50 (twenty-one years ago)

UG = Crumb
Indie Guilt = Tomine

That's the way I'd see it.

re: apostrophe/slash, using a smart apostrophe seems to do the trick, hoorah! ’’’’’’

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Monday, 17 January 2005 06:41 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
How many ILC posters (regular or irregular) are unregistered? We've been experiencing a spate of spammola, and I'm tempted to make ILC temporarily reg-only, though I'd like to open it for discussion first.

c(''c) (Leee), Thursday, 18 May 2006 21:18 (nineteen years ago)

Over on ILBooks we've been debating something similar. It seems like ILC doesn't even get the sorts of random googlers that ILBooks gets (probably because comics don't get assigned as homework as much).

Although I don't feel like a full ILC citizen, I still have no problem with making it reg-only.

I can't think of any unregeds off the top of my head. It's fine by me.

chap who would dare to be a nerd, not a geek (chap), Thursday, 18 May 2006 21:36 (nineteen years ago)

Although perhaps not entirely neccessary; I can't recall ever seeing one bit of spam on this board.

chap who would dare to be a nerd, not a geek (chap), Thursday, 18 May 2006 21:41 (nineteen years ago)

It's because we're that damn good!

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 18 May 2006 21:54 (nineteen years ago)

"No, I won't try and flog any zanex on this board, they all seem so nice."

Okay I'm breaking down and asking:

Leeee, what is the picture your screen name is supposed to represent? I feel like those people who can only see the Batman symbol as gigantic gaping yellow teeth.

It's Kirby!

I think it's a shrugging robot.

CLARITY

Dan (I Kept Trying To See Breasts) Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 18 May 2006 22:19 (nineteen years ago)

less chance of vanity-googling creators (a la espinosa) showing up!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 19 May 2006 00:06 (nineteen years ago)

that's my sole issue, too.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 19 May 2006 00:09 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not registered, but I don't care. Wait, did I mention I'm Bob Kane?

asdf, Friday, 19 May 2006 00:50 (nineteen years ago)

Magic!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 19 May 2006 01:07 (nineteen years ago)

Seems like most of spam shows up on Eccchs-Men related threads (possibly c14L1s movie tie? HARDER THAN ADAMANTIUM! FULLY RETRACTABLE! etc). MAYBE WE SHOULD JUST IGNORE MARVLE.

DC FOREVER-L (Huk-L), Friday, 19 May 2006 01:07 (nineteen years ago)

Reg-only won't stop them from showing up, though. It's a pretty quick procedure to get registered, after all.

¯\(º_o)/¯ (Chris Piuma), Friday, 19 May 2006 02:14 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I'm fine w/ leaving things as is - Leeee & I have been quick like Flashes / prematurely ejaculating Adrian Tomine protagonists deleting any spam. And, hey, if we're getting spammed, we must be doing something right!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 19 May 2006 02:34 (nineteen years ago)

Speak for yourself, Dave! ;D

c(''c) (Leee), Friday, 19 May 2006 03:14 (nineteen years ago)

OK - I hit it & quit it, Leeee is the 60-second Kirby.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 19 May 2006 03:16 (nineteen years ago)

I mean minute.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 19 May 2006 03:16 (nineteen years ago)

That thing on Leee's signature was a picture!!???.

Goes to show just how short an attention spam I've got.

Amadeo (Amadeo G.), Friday, 19 May 2006 03:35 (nineteen years ago)

Heavens, I don't deserve the Kirby title!

xpost "attention spam"!
