Who was your favourite character in ZENITH?

the britfox, Saturday, 14 February 2004 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I've got a very soft spot for Acid Archie.

And bearing in mind that the cast of Zenith includes pretty much every decent old IPC/DC Thompson action-hero... Steel Claw.

Vic Fluro, Saturday, 14 February 2004 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Speed speed ecstasy.

Is there a Zenith reprint available? I don't think there is.

The single best panel in the whole of Zenith is where there's a Zenith video on Top of the Pops and he's 'gone baggy' and is shaking his maracas.

I liked Robot Archie as well.

Is The Spider in Zenith?

DV (dirtyvicar), Sunday, 15 February 2004 12:52 (twenty-two years ago)

No, but he's in Jack Staff along with Janus Stark.

Vic Fluro, Sunday, 15 February 2004 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't believe that no-one has mentioned PENELOPE MOON.

the britfox, Thursday, 19 February 2004 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Is this another Brit comic?

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 19 February 2004 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes Jordan.

I think all threads should start with "Borag Thungg, Earthlets" btw.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Thursday, 19 February 2004 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I like Robot Archie too.

I am to gather that Zenith became good at some point. I stopped reading 2000AD about the point of the cthulu/lovecraft/nazi rub

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Friday, 20 February 2004 09:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes it did. Book 1 was patchy and the bad patches were too Cthulhoid. Book 2 was consistent but lightweight, though the Richard Branson character was fun. Book 3 was THRILL POWER OVERLOAD. Book 4 was, well, book 4 was the plot of a future shock stretched to 15 parts BUT done with a hell of a lot of panache.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 20 February 2004 11:28 (twenty-two years ago)

What happened in Book 4 then? I was a NONSCROT at that time, and didn't realise it'd ever happened.

I liked the Brilliant Three, or whatever they were called, especially Tree Man (ibid), as it only gradually dawned on me that I'd seen them before in Cheeky (i think) years before.

MJ Hibbett, Friday, 20 February 2004 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

WTF OMG!!11 etc

for the first time in (what 15?) years I am suddenly interested in what happened to Zenith!

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Friday, 20 February 2004 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Book 3 is basically "Grant Morrison Rewrites CRISIS" except using every Brit-comic hero ever and with the heroes having to blow up alternate earths with MASSIVE BOMBS instead of saving them.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Sunday, 22 February 2004 20:53 (twenty-two years ago)

me want borrow

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Monday, 23 February 2004 10:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Zenith Book 1 1-85286-030-8
Zenith Book 2 1-85286-137-1
Zenith Book 3 1-85286-172-X
Zenith Book 4 1-85286-262-9
Zenith Book 5 1-85286-263-7

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Monday, 23 February 2004 12:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmm, looking at the covers it's impossible to know which ones you want. There were only four books so there's been some splitting up going on, clearly. Maybe 3 and 4? Or maybe 4 and 5?

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 23 February 2004 12:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Now I find http://www.2000adonline.com/?zone=reprint&page=gnprofiles&choice=zenith4 which confusingly suggests that...

4 = War in Heaven eps 1 to 13
5 = War in Heaven eps 14 to 26

(There's something wrong with the listed prog numbers) ANyway, books 4 and 5 seems right. I'm off to Gosh...

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Monday, 23 February 2004 12:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I asked the nice man at GOSH about Zenith Books and he said there's some legal dispute going on as the ppl who reprinted it most recently did not have the rights to do so! So Morrison sued them and they were all withdrawn from circulation.

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Monday, 1 March 2004 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Smiley Sun.

Not really.
