What do you do with your comics after reading them?

I can't believe this hasn't been discussed yet, but it was bubbling up on the speculator thread. So what do you do? Bags and backboards? Toss them in a longbox? Let them clutter up the house? Leave them in the bathroom? Use them for bedding? Out with it!

Personally, I wait until they're falling off my desk and nightstand and tripping up the cats and then I bag, board, and box them. I couldn't care less about their value and I don't plan on selling any, but I'd rather keep them in reasonable condition for re-reading or lending to friends. They're also much easier to flip through in this state.

I've got a longbox, but since I'm moving at the end of Sept. I'm wondering if there isn't some youth centre or something I could donate the stuff I don't really feel like taking with me to.
The good stuff I force on some of my friends.

Huck, Wednesday, 1 September 2004 20:12 (twenty years ago)

Longboxes, but I always forget to buy more (I have like three, I think? and two have been full with the same comics for years), so most of them end up unsorted in other boxes. Every time in the past when I've thought I might as well get rid of an album, book, or comic, I end up meeting someone who'd like to borrow it, or discovering some reason to check it out again ("Oh, Cool Writer I Like got his start writing the Sectaurs? I should go reread that.")

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 20:14 (twenty years ago)

I also have three or four longboxes in my parents' garage (no doubt decayed and mouldy by now) of every appearance of Green Lantern and Green Arrow between 1983 and 1991.

Huck, Wednesday, 1 September 2004 20:16 (twenty years ago)

Of course you do, Huck. :>

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 20:17 (twenty years ago)

Well, just about. It wasn't really meant as a brag, just, that's what I focussed on. I was gonna say "every primary coloured DC superhero thing" but then I remembered Green isn't a primary colour.
But at one point I think I had nearly the entire mainstream DCU on my pull list.

Huck, Wednesday, 1 September 2004 20:20 (twenty years ago)

All my friends were into Wolverine/PunisherWarJournal/Todd MacF/Ralph Snart

Huck, Wednesday, 1 September 2004 20:21 (twenty years ago)

I put them on bookshelves - that seems to work perfectly well. I throw away bags unless they are in such terrible condition that I fear they will fall apart. Ones I don't want, I pile up somewhere with a view to eventually either selling them or giving them somewhere worthwhile, depending on how saleable they seem to be.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 20:23 (twenty years ago)

Bookshelves never crossed my mind for some reason, except for trades of course. Shelf space is at a premium in my apartment at the moment, however.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 20:29 (twenty years ago)

I use my ginourmous Riverside Shakespeare to prop them up at the end of a bookcase.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 20:35 (twenty years ago)

Similar as Martin. I have a bookshelf mostly full of comics (completed series, incomplete series, one-shots), with a shelf for horizontally stacked books of an odd size (curse you, Chris Ware!), and one with stacks of ongoing series (every completed twelve-month goes to the completed series shelf). And another bookshelf for the TPBs, and a stack on top of a locker of stuff that I bought, then bought in TPB, whcih I should maybe consider getting rid of.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 20:48 (twenty years ago)

I delete them.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 20:48 (twenty years ago)

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 23:14 (twenty years ago)

I regret having bought them.

Wooden (Wooden), Thursday, 2 September 2004 00:41 (twenty years ago)

Hey, that Starman is pretty cool, huh?
I've just read nearly all the trades from teh library, and wow. Great fun.

Huck, Thursday, 2 September 2004 04:31 (twenty years ago)

Thank god Ulysses sticks out and not my Star Trek magazines.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Thursday, 2 September 2004 04:47 (twenty years ago)

Ulysses comic! C'mon kids, it would be fun. yes my mountain flower yes I said yes I will Yes FAPPO!

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 2 September 2004 12:26 (twenty years ago)

It's already been done!

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Thursday, 2 September 2004 17:38 (twenty years ago)

Blankets, yes... Art of Hellboy, good... 300, yes, yes, ... eh, can see what the really skinny ones say.

I was going to get a longbox from my comic seller but he was going to charge me four dollars for it and I told him I thought that was a rip-off and he should just be giving it to me for free since we're friends. He tried to explain about the boxes being acid free, blah blah... We haven't spoken since.

I keep my comics in sleeves, on a book shelf. I try to keep them near their trades because I invariably read volumes one and two of a series, like it so much, decide to collect the monthlies. It's all a bit confusing for me.

Vermont Girl (Vermont Girl), Thursday, 2 September 2004 17:54 (twenty years ago)

Whoops, what I thought were Starman are actually Bone!
Also, TWO Batgirl trades, but no Green Arrow? You dork!

Huck, Thursday, 2 September 2004 17:58 (twenty years ago)

What? Point me in the right direction, Leeeeeeee...

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 2 September 2004 17:59 (twenty years ago)

Also, Leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, since it's on your shelf, is Jinx pretty essential to my life? I was looking at it the other day in the store...Bendis does the art, right?

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:10 (twenty years ago)

eh, can see what the really skinny ones say.

Those would be the Trek mags.

Hahah Huck I thought that was some major xposts with the Starman!

Jocelyn, I saw it on ebay, meant to bid on it as a curio and totally forgot about it. And so it's lost to the aether unless someone else knows what I'm talking about. And I think someone does, because I probably got the link from ILE.

Jordan, I'm back to a grumpus about Bendis. He draws it and does a fairly good job. But anyway, I'm the wrong person to ask about BMB.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:18 (twenty years ago)

Leeeee, why are you agrumpin' on BMB?

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:22 (twenty years ago)

(A bit disappointed w/ the last DD trade.)

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Thursday, 2 September 2004 20:32 (twenty years ago)

Yeah? I thought it was pretty good. I could have done without the team beatdown of the thugs, but I always think Iron Fist sticks out like a sore, yellow thumb in that book.
