Leee, are you moving for school?

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know the South Side yet, but Quimby's is conveniently located a couple of blocks from the Blue Line Damen El stop (also near my house), very close to Reckless Records and Myopic Books as well. There's also some place, I think called Chicago Comics, in Wrigleyville.

Everyone should come to Vermont! There are TREES and FARMS and TREES and... trees. Hmn, any wonder why I read comics? [crawls back up into her tree]

Vermont Girl (Vermont Girl), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Having a treehouse stocked with comics sounds nice.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

When I was 11, in between the death of Jason Todd and the introduction of Tim Drake, I wrote a story for my Gr. 6 English Composition class about how Two-Face was hiding out in Saskatoon (where I lived, then), because it was such an out-of-the-way place. It turns out he had a son there, who was 11, and became a crime fighter called the Black Phantom (I wanted to call him the The Phantom, but that was taken), and eventually became Batman's new sidekick.
I got a B.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 8 September 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, I am coming to Vermont, in almost exactly a year, for a wedding. But I don't know which bit yet.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 15:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Vermont big enough to have parts?

Huk-L, Wednesday, 8 September 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

And MAPLE SUGAR CANDY and ICE CREAM! That's what I think of when I think of Vermont. (not that I've been there.)

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

And, of course, maple favored ice cream. Actually, I have maple syrup running through my veins and my head is one big ice cream scoop.

There are parts. My favorite part is THE NORTHEAST KINGDOM. Really, it's a real kingdom with kingdom-like... things. My friends and I rent a cabin up there and one time, we bought a box of sugar cubes for our coffee. When we opened the box up, we saw that there were three cubes missing. We were convinced this was evidence of THE NORTHEAST KINGDOM tax.

Vermont Girl (Vermont Girl), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't forget CIVIL UNIONS.

Jordan, yes, I'm going to Chicago for school. Isn't Wisconsin like 700 miles way though?? </typical American and his sense of geography>

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Nah, it's about 1 1/2 hours away from Milwaukee, 2 1/2 from Madison, not bad at all. I usually only go down when I've got gigs there, but I have friends in town and I've been meaning to make a trip for fun. Or just for shrimp, at Lawrence's Fishery.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought Madison was closer than 2 1/2 hours! I guess my dad really WAS speeding like a fiend on those family vacations.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I've made it under 2, but I speeding down I-90 fo' sho', only stopping to buy cheese curds and fireworks.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

and porn. What's with all those stores on the I-90 anyway? I stopped to buy sunscreen and a Coke and oh no don't look over there.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't deny the truckers, yo.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Um, are you going to U of C or UIC for school? Either way, there are no good shops on the South Side of Chicago. None. Zip. Hard Boiled used to be in Hyde Park, but it moved to Roscoe Village years ago. So you're gonna have to make it up to Quimby's/ Chicago Comics/ Comix Revolution to get yer fix, bro.

Bugger.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

UC btw.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:49 (twenty-one years ago)

On the flipside, feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions about UC/ Hyde Park. I've been on the campus for, uh, eleven years now. My god, I'm old.
