...the world of KAMANDI!

I haven't read an issue of Kamandi since I was six. Looking at that map, it's clear that this is a situation that needs to be rectified.

DC, get those trades going, pronto!

MAO TSE TIGERS. "Hey guys, should we be capitalists?" "Fuck that, 'Adam Smith Tigers' sounds hella stupid." "Hmmm, that's true, but the Kropotkin Cougars already dibbed anarchism ..." "Wait, wait, let's be communists! Mao Tse Tigers!" "Fluffy! You're a genius!"

I also really approve of any map with STRANGE FIRE AREA written on it.

(And MAD-HOLE, country of the SCREAMERS!)

FYI, don't mind me pimpin' my scratch pad, but you should know that the post to which I link features links to both the Jack Kirby Comics blog (where I pilfered that map) and ... MONSTER BLOG!

I like that the ISLAND of the "GOD WATCHERS" ... IS WATCHING ME!

Man, that is some serious landscaping.

I also love the sort of ignorance of scale that you always get in these "world of the future" maps, where you could really fit everything on that map into, say, Texas, and still have a very sparsely populated setting (assuming none of these places have huge populations, which they didn't from what I remember). But then there'd be less room for the labels.

(In one of the RPG settings -- Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, something like that -- there was a country which remained mysterious, hidden, and UNSHOWN for years simply because its spot on the map was taken up by the logo and legend.)

Matt Maxwell wrote "...DC, get those [Kamandi] trades going, pronto!" Three days ago, a friend of mine told me that DC are bringing out a Kamandi hardback collection. Apparently it's due out next year sometime.

ooooo... Thanks for the info, David.

Wonder if the other Kirby stuff is going to get the same treatment then? I find it kinda crazy that Kirby's DC work hasn't rated an Archives presentation.

Matt Maxwell (Matt M.), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, they have reprinted the Forever People, Mister Miracle, and something else fourthworldy that I've forgotten. What else is there?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 17 September 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

They've also reprinted Jimmy Olsen adventures (where Darkseid made his debut). Left is Kamandi, The Demon, The Sandman and OMAC. The problem with all the Fourth World stuff is it's black and white with greytones on newsprint. A nicer presentation is in order methinks.

They should release Kirby's Sandman and Ditko's Shade in a single-volume deluxe "Before They Were Vertigo" book.

(Mostly because I want Ditko's Shade, to be honest, and can't see it happening otherwise.)

DC have also put out two Challengers Of The Unknown Archives and, a few years back, a comic book reprinting Kirby's Green Arrow stories. All well worth geting.

What I most want to see is a Boy Commmandos archive series -- that's prime Kirby & Simon, so it is.
