I had no idea it actually stood for Hal's Emerald Advancement Team!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 24 September 2004 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Shhhhh, don't bring them here.

Huk-L, Friday, 24 September 2004 17:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Quick! Google-proof that text!

THEY'RE COMING!

Matt Maxwell (Matt M.), Friday, 24 September 2004 17:26 (twenty-one years ago)

We should build a force field over ILComics, like the one over Gorilla City, that keeps the outside world, and all their warring, o-u-t.

Huk-L, Friday, 24 September 2004 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

REMAIN CALM

EVERYTHING IS UNDER CONTROL

PLEASE PROCEED TO THE DESIGNATED BOMB SHELTER IN AN ORDERLY FASHION

BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 24 September 2004 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Is the fact that I don't give a flying fuck about the Hal controversy indicative of my Marvel Comics zombieism?

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Friday, 24 September 2004 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Thou shalt not worship Kyle Rayner.

Keeper of the Green Flame, Friday, 24 September 2004 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, like a test pilot is really relavent in the 21st Century. Why does DC hate change?

RaynerRox, Friday, 24 September 2004 17:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean, if people were complaining because of Judd Winick and his Real World involvement, I would at least have context in terms of seeing why people would care. It's kind of like the whole Spider-clone nonsense or the Magneto/Joseph thing; IT'S NOT SACRELIGE IT'S A STORY SETTLE DOWN BEAVIS.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Friday, 24 September 2004 17:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I think, more than anything, it was about the early days of the internet and the changing paradigms of fannitude.

Huk-L, Friday, 24 September 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Changing paradigms of fannitude?

There's something wrong with the above. Just can't put my finger on it...

Matt Maxwell (Matt M.), Friday, 24 September 2004 17:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Whoops, that should be "changing diapers"

Huk-L, Friday, 24 September 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope those two posts up there are from you knuckleheads and not actual real-time g00gle arrivals, because I think I am now stricken with THE PHEAR.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 24 September 2004 17:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, 'fess up.

Huk-L, Friday, 24 September 2004 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

(they were both me)

Huk-L, Friday, 24 September 2004 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't care either Dan, and I was reading lots of DC at the time (including Green Lantern). The only real problem with the Hal/Kyle transition, for my money, was that they went from a pretty good writer to not such a great one.

I can think of things that would piss me off if Marvel or DC did them to certain characters -- but I can't imagine reacting in any way stronger than just not reading the comic anymore, you know? But that might not be true -- the Swamp Thing stuff at the end of that series DID piss me off, maybe in part because I'd been reading the title for so long and had been such a fan. But I didn't form AHOY, the Alec Holland O...something Ysomething, or anything like that.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 24 September 2004 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Seriously, though:

I'm reading that like the human scientist is all, "Okay, see, they could surround it by a force field only gorillas can see," and the gorilla is like, "Actually, I was going to go with OPERATION PINKY SWEAR and save my force-field dollars for PANTS."

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 24 September 2004 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, I've gotten plenty pissed off re: changes & storylines (see my kvetching about Millar's Spidey), but mostly because of seemingly inept execution or flagrant disregard of continuity & character elements in a continuity-sensitive context. Or they change the motherlovin' costume. Bastardos. But, yeah, activist action outside of pitching a mild nerd fit & spending my money somewhere else never occurred to me.

That said, some of the ancillary things H3@T's done (like bringing J0hn Br00me (sic?) to a con, & setting up this G!l Kane Scholarship fund) seem pretty nice & great. Of course, if the scholarship has to do w/ maintaining the legacy of GL & having to draw sketches for all H3@T members, then I reserve the right to reverse my stance.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 24 September 2004 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

"Sorry, I can't go out to the pub tonight, guys -- I have to draw naked pictures of Katma Tui for my scholarship."

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 24 September 2004 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparantly, they frequently take comics to kids in hospitals, too, which is nice of them.

Huk-L, Friday, 24 September 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, if ILC had an excelsior thread.

Apparantly, they frequently take comics to kids in hospitals, too, which is nice of them.

Dude, you know they're only trying to recruit 'em while they're young.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 24 September 2004 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

See, I was gonna make that crack, but then I thought of the CHILDREN unlike some people here, JORDAN.

SHAME.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 24 September 2004 18:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Besides, everybody knows that John Stewart is the only Green Lantern who matters, since he's on the cartoon (with a badass new look this season!).

Huk-L, Friday, 24 September 2004 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, I propose we never start an Excelsior thread on ILC, as every thread is chockfull of laughs (& nuts) and choosing the best of the best is impossible and unnecessary.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 24 September 2004 18:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Now I want to start AHOY!

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 24 September 2004 18:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Huk-L, Friday, 24 September 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

The part of Swamp Thing will be played this evening, with much yelling, by Richard Dreyfuss.

Huk-L, Friday, 24 September 2004 18:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Holy crap.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 24 September 2004 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Shouldn't that be Gilbert Gottfreid instead?

Matt Maxwell (Matt M.), Friday, 24 September 2004 18:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Does he sign "Green River" to his deafmute daughter (played by Haylie Duff) at the end?

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 24 September 2004 18:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Or "That Smell"!!!!!!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 24 September 2004 18:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I got nuthin.

Matt Maxwell (Matt M.), Friday, 24 September 2004 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)
