Darkseid - what's he all about?

he seems to be one of the DC Universe's big villains. He is very big. He lives on a planet called Apokolips... and is that it?

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

He kisses he girls and makes them cry.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

It's all about the Anti-Life Equation, baby.

Matt Maxwell (Matt M.), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 21:23 (twenty-one years ago)

He's space-hitler, on steroids. Except he doesn't care about cleansing or anything, he just want to find the Anti-Life Equation = the secret to controlling all the people all the time (I think. It's not a goal he's likely to reach)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

There was the occasional Kirby editorial where he'd say that the anti-life equation = THE MAN. Or possibly THE BOMB.

Vic Fluro, Wednesday, 6 October 2004 22:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Who would win in a fight between Darkseid and Galactus?

Wooden (Wooden), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 23:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Already been done.

Darkseid/Galactus: The Hunger. It wasn't all that, but it wasn't as awful as it could've been.

Now if Kirby had written it, that's another matter entirely...

Matt Maxwell (Matt M.), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 23:08 (twenty-one years ago)

That has an absolutely awful cover. Any idea who won? I'm sure it resulted in the kind of cop-out draw typical of Marvel/DC crossovers.

Wooden (Wooden), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 23:11 (twenty-one years ago)

OTM, Wooden.

Matt Maxwell (Matt M.), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 23:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, SPOILERS FOR THE MOST BORING COMIC SERIES CURRENTLY STARRING BATMAN AND SUPERMAN, he can vaporize skinny chicks from Krypton with eyes.

Best use of The Omega Effect I've seen = Superman #3 (which means, obviously, I need to actually READ New Gods) (or, at the least, The Great Darkness Saga).

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

The recently collected "Foundations" story in Legion had some cool Darkseid moments, esp. when young Darkseid from the past fought old Darkseid from the future!!!
Other than that...

Huk-L, Thursday, 7 October 2004 00:40 (twenty-one years ago)

he can vaporize skinny chicks from Krypton with eyes.

So is it Superman's girth or his cock that's saving him from being vaporized?

I only really know Darkseid from JLA: Rock of Ages (I think), and he was pretty good as a cosmic supervillain who everyone was afraid of. Doesn't he roll with a big talking box?

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 7 October 2004 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think he needs a Mother Box. You might be thinking of Manga Kahn.

Huk-L, Thursday, 7 October 2004 03:00 (twenty-one years ago)

No, in Rock of Ages, set in the future, he had a Grandmother Box (= Granny Goodness + you get the idea)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 7 October 2004 06:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, I remember now.

Huk-L, Thursday, 7 October 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Also Darkseid:Orion vs Darth Vader:Luke Skywalker

Huk-L, Thursday, 7 October 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

The source, use the source!

Huk-L, Thursday, 7 October 2004 13:56 (twenty-one years ago)

The Omega Effect vs. The Ultimate Nullifier?

Wooden (Wooden), Thursday, 7 October 2004 14:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Well given that Kirby's Darkseid came before big comics and specifically Kirby fan Lucas created the Darth/Luke thing, I think we know where he got it from. Obviously taking and changing a different character's name (Kirby had Mark Moonwalker), and changing the Source to the Force is pretty creative.

I think Darkseid is a great character, who has been used badly most of the time since Kirby. The Morrison story seems to me an exception - he understood what he was about.

I had no idea about Mark Moonwalker!

Also, Jedis vs Green Lanterns
Yoda vs Gaurdians!

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I had no idea Lucas was a Kirby fan! Now I want to watch the original trilogy all over again.

Sounds like the beginning of a routine in a New Genesis comedy club.

"...and that Darkseid, what's he all about? All that poncey stuff, like the Anti-Life Equation... Back where I come from we call it marriage."

Tuomas, Thursday, 18 June 2009 17:51 (sixteen years ago)

And what's up with Metron? Unlimited cosmic power and he can't even be bothered to leave his armchair!"

chap, Thursday, 18 June 2009 18:49 (sixteen years ago)

People from new Genesis dance like THIS, but people from Apokalips dance like THIS.
