Thank You, ILC!

Inspired by Tom's comment about ILC suckering him into reading some stuff he's liked: what stuff have you read & enjoyed as a result of the constant pestering & hectoring of ILC posters?

For me, it's Lone Wolf & Cub (not at all what I expected; a lot drier and more insidiously enriching than I thought at first blush) and Carnet de Voyage (for me, a buttload better than the admirably solid Blankets).

Bendis (Daredevil and Powers, both of which I heart dearly)
Queen & Country
Sleeper

Those stick out right away as things that I checked out because of ILC and then ended up buying all the trades, but I'm sure there are others.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 7 October 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Seaguy, definitely, since ILC convinced me not to wait for the TPB, and Matt sent me #1.

Y, I think -- I don't remember if I was reading it before reading ILC regularly, but I don't think so.

Outsiders in a totally different sense, because I think it's one of those comics that really benefits from the reader's ability to go, "Hey, did you get a load of that?", and my girlfriend isn't really familiar enough with the characters to join in with me on that.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 7 October 2004 15:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Seaguy, Runaways, Astonishing X-Men, 1602 (to my surprise)!

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 7 October 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I recently bought the first Y - The Last Man trade as the result of a recommendation on the board and enjoyed it muchly.

Wooden (Wooden), Thursday, 7 October 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Sleeper... Powers... Maybe Phoenix...

Vermont Girl (Vermont Girl), Thursday, 7 October 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

anything superhero comic at all that isn't alan moore i can chalk up to ilc esp. green arrow (what up huck), possibly wouldn't have been aware or at the very least likely wouldn't have read y or gotham central without ilc and i buy these now the week they come out (something i haven't done with comics since i was 13?)(whenever destro and cobra commander and snake eyes took off their masks and they were ALL white guys)(wtf).

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 7 October 2004 20:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Powers, Alias, and Seaguy. I don't think I like Seaguy as much as most of you guys though.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 8 October 2004 04:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh and Sleeper too.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 8 October 2004 04:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Powers. Y. Rucka.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 8 October 2004 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Er, nothing really. Sticking with my favourite writers (= the british invasion, more or less) has done me well. I did download Identity Crisis, but it's safe to say that won't result in a purchase.

(haha and I was doubtful about Americans' tastes BEFORE the Rodney Dangerfield thread).

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 8 October 2004 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, I'm wrong: I did download New Frontier, and will probably buy it in TPB (as a counterweight to James Robinson's The End), and Phoenix:Dawn, though that might be as much Martin's review on Brown Wedge as anything here.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 8 October 2004 12:54 (twenty-one years ago)

How many issues of Alias are there?

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Friday, 8 October 2004 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

28, I think?

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 8 October 2004 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

w00t! Full torrented run, here I come!

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Friday, 8 October 2004 14:16 (twenty-one years ago)

This Alias comic is based on the TV series, I assume? I'm quite surprised to hear it's good. Comics based on TV shows usually=total dross.

Wooden (Wooden), Friday, 8 October 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Alias the comic is written by Bendis, takes place in the Marvel/Daredevil universe. Alias the tv show has a comic called Secret Agent: Sydney Bristow or somesuch.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Friday, 8 October 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Meta!

Wooden (Wooden), Friday, 8 October 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I think that some kids may be in for a rude surprise as I noticed Alias the comic in the young adult section of the lib. last night.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 8 October 2004 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

rude surprise=exactly what they were hoping for

Huk-L, Friday, 8 October 2004 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, Alias is terrific.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 10 October 2004 10:57 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
Green Lantern: Rebirth. Definitely wouldn't have picked it up if not for ILC, and specifically for Huck. I can feel my Green Lantern fanhood returning.

Tep (ktepi), Saturday, 30 October 2004 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
Ha - Tep was suckered just like the rest of us! ("rest of us" = Huk & I) (& anyone else that wants to jump on board)

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 20 April 2006 00:21 (nineteen years ago)

I carry such a burden of shame.
