The Return of POWER PACK!

Newsarama report here - a state of the Marvel Age address, also announcing the creation of a new Power Pack title, with original stories! I have to say, this actually sounds like a really good idea! Especially w/ Marc Sumerack, he who wrote the would-be Runaways "limited series" Guardians, which looked pretty good, at the helm.

WHY exactly does this sound like a good idea? More like a OH NO!!

Sorry, should've been more descriptive - it's a MANGA-STYLED Power Pack, which, if you're going to bring PP back, is the way to go.

That's still a big "if".

Surely the way to bring them back is to do a series about four adults who were super-powered kids in the 80s. It could be comedy or it could be uh 'realistic' but I think comedy is preferable. And everyone loves the 80s.

Damn right!! And they should all be washed up failures or crackheads/grappling with emotional problems/sexuality/gulit etc.. and crippled by horrible 'grown up' diseases...

Even though i loved this when i was a kid.. i always thought they were way too whiney.. especially the lad who could turn into a cloud of gas.. 'Mass master' was it? and the guy who called himself 'Gee'.. LOL!

where i come from 'Gee' is a slang term for a particlar part of the female anatomy!

Anyone remember 'Cloak and Dagger'? they made a few appearances in Power pack, and as i remember, they were particularly awful as well..

Oh you guys and your cynical "gritty" voibe! Go smoke some crack or something.

I can totally see Power Pack work as a manga title - the broad emotional gestures, the cloying cuteness, the primary colors, THE SPACE HORSEYS! WITH MANGA EYES! Also, when they whine, they can stomp up & down w/ their gritted manga teeth & their squinty manga eyes & their manga action lines!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 22 October 2004 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't say it should be gritty! I think it should be funny! It would work as a sitcom in ways it never worked as a superhero comic!

I would buy any Power Pack series that showcased at least five panels of Julie and Katie kicking Jack in the nuts while Alex hit him in the face with mallets.

And then them all sitting down to a rack of space horse ribs.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 22 October 2004 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, Tom - I saw the words "disease" & "crackheads" from droid (& "realistic" in yr post) & I thought "GRIT"! Like Todd Bridges & Gary Coleman (or members of S Club 7) sharing needles & stuff while undercover cops turn tricks.

They take their cues from My Little Pony Alien = built in comedy!

I do not want to live in the sad, grim world where Daver's vision of a gritty Power Pack isn't funny.
