CrossGen: C/D, S/D

Being a sucker for all things marvelous, I've been buying more and more CrossGen titles. Almost every single one I buy disappoints me (the final issue of Mystic particularly stank), yet I keep going back for more. Help me navigate my way through this shared universe. Or convince it's b.s. so's I can move on.

Mark Waid's run on Ruse is the best thing of his I've read (and Butch Guice's art is swank, too) - the minute the new writer (Scott Beatty?) took over, it lots its "thing" (and Paul Ryan fill-in art every other issue ain't my bag). I avoided the other CrossGen titles, though, and the previews I've read of them don't have me regretting my decision.

I tried Sojourn and didn’t really like it. I thought the characters were predictable and stereotypical. The artwork was pretty but not too experimental or distinctive. Overall, I thought it was like a million other comics out there.

On a funny note, a housemate of mine bought the Sojourn DVD and it’s one of the funniest (unintentionally) things I’ve ever seen. It’s not even animated, just pictures taken straight from the comic (voice bubbles and all) and different people (actors?) reading for each character. It’s horrible! Ayden sounds like a total prostitute. My housemate only got it because it was $5.00 but really seems to like it.

What the fuck is up with those comics dvds? Kids don't even want to read COMIC BOOKS these days, they need voiceovers?!
