Rumor Central!

I dunno - do you folks cotton to a thread just for talking smack about various rumors re: creators going hither & tither, or would you rather just keep those things to their own threads? Myself, I'm vaguely aflutter with the stuff I heard from various Wizard World Texas reports (all from The Big Two, of course):

- Michael Lark going to Marvel
- Captain American & the Falcon getting ... um ... downsized?
- Bendis & Maleev leaving Daredevil after 2005
- the NEW Fantastic Four creative team (oh my!)
- a Daredevil mini by District X's David Hine & Alias's Michael Gaydos
- the characters & artists involved w/ Seven Soldiers
- Desolation Jones

... & figured it'd be nice to have a catch-all repository for considered discussion, unfettered forecasting and the sort of snuggable pith that's come to epitomize ILC.

So, yeah. I have to go edit my resume s'more in the hopes of finding an employer that'll allow me to keep my funny book habit. Talk amongst yourselves.

Michael Lark confirmed as much on the Gotham Central Board. I worry about the future of that title, with Brubaker taking on more and more Marvel (the rumour is that Bru and Lark are going to take over Daredevil when Bendis & Maleev go, which works okay for me, though I fucking love Maleev--what else has he done?) and Rucka doing loads of other stuff too. Oh, but Maleev could take over GC!!!
What's the line-up for SSoV?

Characters: Zatanna, Mr. Miracle, the Guardian and others (cover!) (is that Jonah Hex I spy?)
Artists: Ryan Sook, Pascual Ferry, Doug Mahnke, Yannick Paquette and Cameron Stewart (among others) on the 7 mini-series w/ J.H. Williams III on the two bookending issues.

I like Sook! I think that may be Vigilante (the cowboy) not Hex.

I have warm fuzzies for 4 of the 5, and the 1 I'm lukewarm about (Yanick Paquette) could just as easily give me fuzzies as well.

I almost bought an Aliens vs. Predator book last week because it was drawn by Maleev. I think I will, actually.

It would be sad to see Bendis & Maleev stop doing Daredevil, but I suppose they really have been doing it for awhile, and it gives them a chance to wrap it up with something big, hopefully.

There are a number of indie/new artists who could take the Gotham Central job. Granted, it wouldn't be the same, but the art isn't what's selling that book in the first place (not trying to harsh on Michael Lark, sorry if it comes across like that.) Personally, I'm wondering why Marvel picked him up. He's not really a big draw and doesn't do big superhero action very well (or I should say, the fanboys don't line up for his books like they do for Mike Turner.)

Matt Maxwell (Matt M.), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 06:24 (twenty years ago)

But he would be perfect on Daredevil. Perfect, I tell you. The prospect of him and Brubaker replacing Bendis/Maleev is quite exciting, since I had been thinking that no creative team short of Miller/Mazzuchelli could possibly follow their run...

Is the future of Gotham Central in peril?

Huk-L, Tuesday, 9 November 2004 14:33 (twenty years ago)

No no no no no no no no no. No.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 14:35 (twenty years ago)

One of DC’s lower-selling monthlies, the series is critically acclaimed, and is reported to be one of the publisher’s trade success stories, that is, the trade paperback collections of Central sell as well as – or better than – the monthly series, in part, justifying the monthly’s continued existence.

Does this mean that they've actually put out more than one trade?!

Btw, I don't mean to be down on this Lark cat, but I don't remember anything too exceptional about the art from the first trade.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 14:39 (twenty years ago)

There's a second trade scheduled for early next year.

Re: Lark, his praise might be more properly hung on the colorist? The whole art package on Gotham Central has just been really cool and effectively moody.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 9 November 2004 14:43 (twenty years ago)

hey, maybe this is 'well, duh' obv. but the pulse is basically marvel's take on/response to gotham central yeah?

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 14:44 (twenty years ago)

Sort of. The Pulse does for the Daily Bugle what Gotham Central does for the Gotham police department.

I remember back in The Day when Michael Lark's art was more reminiscent of Chris Sprouse than of David Mazzuchelli. Also, Lark's improved a lot since the series began. (I'm pretty sure there's more than one trade - GO GET IT!)

Perhaps GC will rotate folks like Queen & Country, allow for more variety in tone and mood. Or maybe Guy Davis can step in?

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 14:49 (twenty years ago)

Is this the Michael Lark from Terminal City? That was great.
