Remember all those bad things I said about Bendis? After reading a couple volumes of DD, I can safely say that I was WRONG

And the last PGMG is great too!

I read the first Alias trade and while it was good, it didn't do any sock-knocking.

But BMB's dialogue, which never impressed me before, is intense in DD. Watching DD go nutso got my heart pounding in a way never experienced since I first read DKR.

So yeah, the guy ain't bad.

Hi Lee! :)

You could do worse things with a weekday afternoon than park yourself at a Borders & dig through Powers & Ultimate Spider-Man collections, y'know. (Except the bits of USM that Bill Jemas helped plot - the first 6 issues, I think? - which seem a little fffffffffffflat compare to what follows.)

What's PGMG?

Pretty Girls Make Graves! (New Romance)

I've already got Retro Girl, I'll be giving that another look-see. But damn, I'm all over DD now (specially cos Alex Maleev is one hot bastard.)

That Hollywood memoir he did (can't remember the title) is brilliant, one of the best.

Dialogue in comics might make an interesting thread, tho'.

You should start it Chuck! What exactly do you have in mind?

seven months pass...
I unintentionally went on a Bendis bender this weekend, with Daredevil: Out! and Powers: Who Killed Retro Girl. (also watched on TV: "The Trial of the Incredible Hulk")
I think I liked Powers more, but noticed that Marvel definitely has better copyediting than Image. It's a small thing, but I noticed a lot of typos and stuff in Powers. That's minor though.
Bendis's dialogue sometimes reminds me of Pelecanos, sometimes he gets carried away and it comes off really forced, but generally okay. A little "stunty" though like most Elmore Leonard aspirants.
The pacing in Daredevil was really good. I think I like this Daredevil character, though is Elektra dead or what? Because one minute Murdock's all blaming himself for her death and then she's there telling him to buck up. What gives?

Huk-L, Monday, 18 October 2004 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

She was dead, and now she's not.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 18 October 2004 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

But DD still gets to feel bad about it?

Huk-L, Monday, 18 October 2004 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Of course!

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 18 October 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Is it possible for me to read only Daredevil and ignore the rest of the Marvel Universe, or will this spread and next thing you know I'll be X-Huk?

Huk-L, Monday, 18 October 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Such is the genius of the character. Next week: Daredevil visits the Holocaust Museum.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 18 October 2004 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, it is quite possible (& the same can probably be said for Astonishing X-Men, too) (& probably other titles as well, but then listing those would defeat the purpose of Huck's inquiry).

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 18 October 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, maybe, MAYBE, I'll have a look at Astonishing. Actually, screw that, if I'm going to pick up another non-DC title, maybe it should be Powers.

Huk-L, Monday, 18 October 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Even though I like both, I'd say go with Powers, and you can always pick up Astonishing in TPB(s?) -- Whedon's only doing the twelve issues, so whether it continues after that or not, presumably his run will end with something reasonably like closure.

six years pass...

I guess BMB's the Asimov of comics, in terms of productivity. He's adding an ongoing Moon Knight title to everything else he's writing. The character doesn't do anything for me, really, but any chance for more Alex Maleev art is a plus.
