Actual Real Life People Who Dress Up In Costumes Not In A 'Cosplay' Sense (Ew) But Because They Honestly See Themselves As Some Kind Of Superhero Or Comics Character Equivalent - C/D?

Ex-ILXor Emma (who may well never have read a comic in her life) was cornered in the pub the other evening by a man who was a proud 'have a go hero' and has made over 50 citizens arrests. He was in his fifties and was wearing a saggy Spider-Man costume. He presented Emma with a press clipping showing him in said costume and talking about his heroic deeds.

Other evidence for yr consideration: Fathers For Justice, that guy Barrio Man who made the papers a lot in Mexico in the 80s, um Bono maybe...

Vigilanteism, mostly dud. Philanthropy/volunteerism are pretty classic. Mental illness, kinda dud, but it does have it's good points I guess. Not boring.

Friend of the aforementioned Kitchen Sink college friend moved to New Orleans a few years before I did "to be a superhero" (he went to the same college we did, so he was presumably a wealthy kid who didn't need to work), sent back a few photos of himself in costume, was in the paper for stopping a mugging or something, and then they lost track of him before I moved there (not to be a superhero).

I think I have to go with dud.

I like it when Mexican Wrestlers run for mayor and save the barrio etc without ever taking their masks off.

Anything else - DUD

OH MY GOD. Poor Emma.

Also, "cosplay" sounds like something nasty Cliff and Claire Huxtable do after they lock the kids in their rooms.

Ivan Man to thread, also AngleGrinder Man, the superhero who hates wheel clamps and grinds them off with a massive piece of deadly steel.

Have there been any real life Supervillains? (Moratorium on Bin Laden etc.)

Also why aren't there more single-issue villains/heroes in comics? (OK conquering the world is kind of single-issue). I think that's what District X should have done with its ridiculously-powerful-local-guy storyline - "But with your powers you could end hunger and cancer" "Yes yes but then who will care about these planning permission disputes"
