Frank Ironwine

I got hold of this on Thursday, and it's absolutely brilliant. Certainly ranks in the Ellis top five, if not top one, and comfortable holds it's own with an easy freshness against any other non-super-genre work being produced right now.

I'm not entirely convinced by the 'this is a parrallel earth comic' thing, although it's always good to have a couple of pages at the end of a first issue saying how the idea came to be. I suppose I'd rather believe that 'Apparat' is an excuse to put out four first issue stand-aloners and see who sinks and who swims, because that would mean that there'd be more Frank Ironwine in the future and this would be a little glimmer in the dark, on it's own for all time.

What did anyone else think?

I didn't even know this was out yet! Are all 4 Apparat books available, or just this one? (Some weblunking revealed that, supposedly, the Apparat books are to be available this week, BUT I also found Frank Ironwine available RIGHT NOW!)

I'm going to get it if I ever make it to a comic store again.

I enjoyed it an awful lot, it's very much in the style of some of his Avatar books (Scars, Deep Blue). I can't remember what I thought of the other Apparat books (sufficiently a Warren E fanboy that my pull list reads "all Warren Ellis books", so I got the preview book the other week), I seem to recall this was the most interesting looking one.

Amazingly, all the rest are running late and have no projected release date! Partly because of "illness"! On Warren Ellis comics! Who would have thunk it?

one month passes...
This IS good. Too bad it's not a real series, especially since detective/police books seem to be doing pretty well right now.

On the other hand, so many books have great first issues and go downhill after that, maybe writing first issues of "imaginary comic books" and stopping there is the way to go!
