Is there any reason P1ayb0y, Hu$+13r, and P3n+h0u$3 are all dropping trou on the same week? Trying to stoke the yule log into action?

Aldo: that Punisher one-shot isn't written by Ennis; it looks pretty crappy (even if Mark Texeira is on the boards).

Huk: you realize that TT title is the one based on the cartoon? (Unless you're getting the Beast Boy maquette...)

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

No, isn't there an issue of Teen Titans coming out, part 3 of the Future Titans Gone Wild saga, as well as TTGo?

Is there any reason P1ayb0y, Hu$+13r, and P3n+h0u$3 are all dropping trou on the same week? Trying to stoke the yule log into action?

Christmas is the loneliest time of year, and some people like to work their way up to the h/c smut of the Huss in stages. PB for Christmas Eve, PH for Christmas Morn, and then all-out w.o.b. action for Boxing Day Blues.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 21 December 2004 15:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, shit, your right. Oh well, Beast Boy Maquette it is.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 21 December 2004 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, shit, you're right. Oh well, Beast Boy Maquette it is.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 21 December 2004 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I may well skip the Punisher one-shot then.

Is Solo any good? I flipped through the first without buying it.

If you don't have any of the previous issues of Black Hole, I'm guessing #12 is going to be pretty impenetrable.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm getting:

Astonishing X-Men #7
Trigger #1 to give it a try

Might get Daredevil Vol. 10 The Widow too, if I zoom through the rest of King Of Hell's Kitchen tonight. I've been burning right through that Bendis run the past couple weeks, just loving it. Might start getting the Alias books after Christmas.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Wait, wasn't Legion Of Superheroes #1 by Waid & Kitson supposed to be out in December? What gives?

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Legion comes out next week. I might pick it up, because I'm gonna have to go to pick up my Flash (Capt. Boomerang's funeral!) and nothing else.

Fuck, Daredevil trades are at #10 already! I've only read the first two (the first two Bendis/Maleev ones, that is, I'm not stupid), which were, um #s 4 & 5.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 21 December 2004 16:23 (twenty-one years ago)

How many issues of the new Grant Morrison JLA have come out? I feel so out of touch.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

#2 tomorrow

Huk-L, Tuesday, 21 December 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, the DD trades are numbered in a very weird way. The first Bendis/Maleev volume is #4 in the trades, and it starts with vol 2 in hardcover. I bought volume 2 and 3 of the hardcovers, which brings it up to Daredevil #50 and trade volume 7. Volume 8 of the trades is the David Mack "Echo Vision Quest" thing which I skipped cos it looks awful and has nothing to do with the story I'm into. Then Bendis/Maleev picks up again in trades with vol 9 "King Of Hells Kitchen" and vol 10 "The Widow." The current storyline is vol 11. I have no idea when the next hardcover is out, but I'm too hooked at this point to wait around for it.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 17:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Aldo: The first Solo (f/ Tim Sale) was hit-or-miss, but mostly hit, and Sale's art looked fantastic. #2 is Richard Corben's time to shine, & he's doing the writing AND drawring on all but one story (written by John Arduci), so I assume the results will be more consistent. Here's a review.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Trying to stoke the yule log into action?

I think you mean "stroke."

BKV is on Mystique, right? Any arcs traded yet?

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 23:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I FINALLY went to the comic book store last night for the first time in six weeks, armed with my girlfriend and our Hannukah comic book gift certificates. Among my purchases (read most of them last night):

--She-Hulk trade: Yay! It's everything ILC said it would be.

--Fables: Still the most solid issue-to-issue book out there, imo. The post-election changing of all the characters' roles is interesting.

--Daredevil vol. 11 (The Widow): (haven't read yet)

--Y: The Last Man: Would have been better had I stayed away from the spoilered thread. Damn my weakness. The next issue better be tight though, I don't want the cause of the plague to be related to tomato juice.

--Lucifer: Really good lately, even if I can never remember what happened last issue.

--Wolverine #22 & 23: Stupid fun, basically. I wonder exactly what sort of continuity this is happening in...since it's obviously seperate from what he's doing in every other X-book, will they actually let him kill any (important) superheroes? If it hasn't happened yet, I'm guessing no.

--Frank Ironwine, Oceans #2-3: Warren Ellis stuff that I haven't gotten to yet, but he really seems to be on an upswing lately.

--Astonishing X-Men #7: Godzilla vs. the X-Men

--Powers (last couple issues): excellent as always. I kinda wish I had waited for trades with the Marvel re-start, just because I have the rest in trades and it would be much easier to lend out to my bandmates whom I turned on to Bendis.

--The Walking Dead: I'm still on the fence about this series. Yes, it's pure soap opera, but the art is great and, um, ZOMBIES!

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Leee: BKV was on the first 12-13 issues of Mystique; there's at least 1 trade out there. The very capable Sean McKeever took over after that. The art's dodgy @ times, but the story is fun, flighty stuff chock full of espionage & intrigue & Mystique hiding guns in her abdomen.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh wow, there's a She-Hulk trade? I might get that, I'm very curious after reading the thread about it on here.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

It's my number one pick of the year. And I'm a die-hard DC dude.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 22 December 2004 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Me too, I haven't read any marvel books apart from the x-books and I really enjoyed it too. Very light (in a good way) and witty.

I liked the quirkier original artist than the more run-of-the-mill bloke that is doing it now, though.

Mark C (Markco), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, definitely. Anyone know who'll be doing art on the relaunch?

Huk-L, Wednesday, 22 December 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

FYI: Juan Bobillo = "quirkier artist" / Paul Pelletier = "run-of-the-mill bloke". I prefer the former as well, but the latter's MO (which seems to involve aping John Byrne's smooth & shiny work on Marvel Team-Up) is definitely growing on me. I think Pelletier is attached to the relaunch.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, there's no disputing he's good. I liked his stuff on Green Lantern a lot better than, um, the guy he followed. But it's just sort of there. I always like artists with little stylistic signature touches, from Darwyn Cooke to Kevin Maguire.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 22 December 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

That's a dumb thing of me to say.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 22 December 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Green Lantern this month is completely mental

Mark C (Markco), Thursday, 23 December 2004 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

THIS WEEK:

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

MYSTIQUE #22: More fun hoop-dee-doo. Mystique is gonna kill Professor X (but don't tell him). Fetish alert: Mystique turns into a MERMAID in this issue.

GREEN LANTERN REBIRTH #3: It's Dark Green Lantern! But he's yellow! Oh, Guardian hubris! The big reveal was a bit disappointing, but otherwise, whatever, Green Arrow's PO'd, Sinestro's back, so bring the ruckus. Also: Kilowog SNORTS!

JLA CLASSIFIED #2: Heady. Almost too heady (for me) (last night) (post-dinner). Batman on a spit = YES YES YES! Also - that one panel on page 2/3 w/ Superman's forelock. Wheee!

ASTONISHING X-MEN #7: Colossus, paraphrased - "I am hanging from the giant nostril of a monster. Perhaps I should concentrate." FF guest appearance. Don't care if it takes 3 months for JC to draw 1 issue, because it is worth 28487 issues of anybody else. Also, chaining Joss Whedon to the proverbial desk for another, oh, 400 issues of this would be swank. On a personal note - S.W.O.R.D.! It's the opposite of S.H.I.E.L.D.! I am BRILLIANT!

WONDER WOMAN #211: Sean Phillips guest art! Lots cleaner & smoother than his Sleeper work. Post-Medousa issue. And, yeah, WW is still blind.

AUTHORITY REVOLUTION #3: It stood between me & Astonishing / JLA Classified, so I put it aside for the time being. On first blush: lots of cussing, gallows humor & innuendo. You know, for 29-year-old kids.

Also bought the new Previews - based on the teaser included in the Marvel section, Young Avengers has more for Jessica Jones to do than The Pulse does! (Also: Jim Cheung's art has me contemplating eBaying for his CrossGen work - please save me.) Marvel, being the shrewd bastards they are, are not leaking their March releases online until TODAY, one day after Previews goes on sale. Sneaky.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 23 December 2004 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't look. I'm on my way to the comic shop in like 15 minutes.

Huk-L, Thursday, 23 December 2004 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Got Astonishing X-Men, plus Following Cerebus #2 (a lot of which seems to consist of apologies for the production errors in #1) and, probably best of all, Ariel Schrag's "Likewise" #3. Although I think she's been producing about one issue a year--is is gonna take her eight years to tell the story of her senior year of high school?

Douglas (Douglas), Thursday, 23 December 2004 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Green Lantern: OH YEAH! (though David's right, Johns is way better at building tension than releasing it) I liked the way they didn't really mention that Hal Jordan had killed Kilowog, because then he would have had to go into the kind of lame stories where Kilowog was brought back. A few waves of the hand here and there and Johns deals with Hal's grey temples and Kyle's ring's lack of yellow impurity. And the art!

Green Arrow: God am I ever going to miss Hester & Parks. Oliver Queen is possibly more codependent than Batman, and the confrontation with Brick kicks ass.

JLA Classified: I think I get what's so great about Grant Morrison's JLA now. Grodd, Infant Universes (well, just one) and Robot Aquaman, it's like Christmas came early!

I also bought JLA: Another Nail, just cuz I love big multi-hero stories. Haven't read it yet.

Hey, didn't Johns say in an interview that Sinestro wouldn't be in Rebirth? Guess he lied.

Huk-L, Friday, 24 December 2004 01:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Happy Christmas ILC.

I shall do my comics reviews later today. If I ever sober up.
