Flash Film - Classic or Dud??

Apparently David "Blade Trinity" Goyer is developing a Flash film. Will it be any good? Who will be the villain? Gorilla Grodd? Mirror Master? Capt'n Cold? The Turtle? The entire Rogues Gallery? What do you reckon, cats and kittens?

Variety (whose report was picked up by the comics press) was reporting that it would be about Jay Garrick! Wtf!

The good thing is that Goyer used to cowrite JSA with Geoff Johns who rulez on the Flash right now, so at very least, if the movie sucks, he'll get his ass kicked.

Goyer confirms Wally West and suggests Ryan Reynolds for the role.

But who cares who plays Flash as long as the villain is Grodd! Grodd. Grodd. Played by Bea Arthur.

Oh I wouldn’t do The Rock. Here’s my point: Ryan put on twenty to twenty-two pounds for this movie, I’m not saying Thor will be Ryan Reynolds, but he’s [Ryan] a big guy in it – he’s massive, I’d rather take an actor [Like Reynolds] and pack on the muscle and have him be Thor, rather than have someone that comes out of wrestling.

DUD

Ryan Reynolds vs Rock: Thespian Showdown!

Huk-L, Tuesday, 21 December 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

They ought to get Tonya Harding as the Golden Glider. I hope this is ace but I am sure it will be dud and they will spend ages setting up his origin blah blah blah.

Mark C (Markco), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

If they asked me (which they won't because I have an unlisted number) I'd say, forget the origin. Establish in the opening sequence that the Flash has been around for a while, even that there have been Flashes before him--if there's a demand, they can always do a Barry Allen prequel--and just get straight into telepathic super-gorilla threats!

Huk-L, Wednesday, 22 December 2004 06:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I would just get straight into it as well - though I would have a bunch of rogues he has arrested meeting in the slammer like in The Usual Suspects and deciding to team up to take him out forevah!
much as I love super-evil psychic gorillas, I don't think they will come across too well on film.

Mark C (Markco), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 09:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Super-evil gorillas would come across well if they used the Monsieur Mallah/Brain gay love affair in a GM scripted Doom Patrol movie.

Actually, they'd probably get Jeremy Irons to play Grodd and it would be as lame as The Time Machine.

Second hand news from Superherohype.com:

The New York Daily News talked to Batman Begins writer David Goyer about his next gig, the big screen adaptation of The Flash, which he'll write and direct.

"Fans know there's been more than one Flash over the years," Goyer adds. "There's been a lot of speculation and rumor, but both Barry Allen and Wally West will be in this movie."

Goyer is referring to the The Flash's "normal" identity. He started as Jay Garrick in 1940. Allen took over in 1956 and Wallace (introduced as Kid Flash in 1959) in 1986.

"We're going to go into the 'Speed Force' and a lot of the cosmic aspects of the character from the more recent past," Goyer says. "Trust me, we're going to do a lot more than have the Flash run on water and create vortexes.

"I have a guy from M.I.T. helping me with all of this. We're going to be playing with relativity, Doppler effects and all kinds of things like that. Audiences will be amazed."
