Rucka v. BMB v. Brubaker

OR

Queen & Country v. Powers v. Sleeper
(I know that not all three of them are crime books, but are the most bestest for each respective author.)

No-Prize for Brad Meltzer!

I think I'll pick Bru, cuz I like his Gotham Central stories better. Though Powers is pretty rad.

Rucka - his best is better than the rest, even if he's much worse on other other peoples' characters (i.e., I'm in a big sloppy Q&C love phase right now after reading the novel, but Wolverine sucked ass)

Bendis - certainly wins the most well-rounded award. Powers is really good, Daredevil is awesome, and I know I'm going to like basically every book he puts his hands on (although I STILL haven't read any Ultimate titles for some reason).

Brubaker - I like all the Gotham Central and Sleeper that I've read, but that's not much since I'm waiting for trades on both.

I'm sorta reluctant to give Bendis props for Daredevil, because, frankly, if Maleev was drawing the stupidest Bob Haney Super-Sons story, I'd still be "This is the greatest Noir-Serial-Fiction being published today!"

I really need to start reading Q&C, I guess.

Figured it's time for my contribution:

My BMB sentiments are well-documented, so I won't reiterate.

Brubaker -- read his first Catwoman (which was meh), Sleeper (very awesome) and of course Gotham Central, and I agree w/ Huk, he's probably better than Rucka on it.

BUT!! Leaving aside the juggernaut of perfection that is Q&C, Rucka's Wonder Woman is pretty damn awesome. It's as though with Aaron Sorkin abdicating West Wing to idiot scripthacks, Rucka felt compelled to fill the wonky, political WW void.

I thought being the Aaron Sorkin of comics was BMB's entire goal in life? Um, except for the political stuff I guess.

If had hired Rucka AND BMB to be the scripthacks, I bet even Sorkin wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

What do people think of Azzarello?

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 23:14 (twenty-one years ago)

See I keep forgetting about dialogue, see. I still probably prefer Rucka's crackin' bits and repartee to BMB's hyperrealism.

The only Azzarello I've are the first 5 vols. of 100 Bullets, so I don't have much of a handle on him, i.e. he hasn't made much of an impact on my memory.
