I got a cold for Christmas! Multi-colored sputum, too! What'd y'all get? &, more importantly, what're you gonna spend it on?

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 27 December 2004 19:52 (twenty years ago)

Where's the Flash? Looks like I'm staying home this week! Not even any nudie mags!

Huk-L, Monday, 27 December 2004 19:58 (twenty years ago)

WHAT IF WOLVERINE HAD BECOME THE THING AND STARTED THE BROTHERHOOD OF EVIL MUTANTS WITH SUPERMAN?!?!?!?!

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 27 December 2004 20:07 (twenty years ago)

SEP042688F MYSTERY OF WOLVERINE WOO-BAIT (MR) $4.95

Da fug...?

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 27 December 2004 20:07 (twenty years ago)

"Not even any nudie mags!" See above, think again.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Monday, 27 December 2004 20:26 (twenty years ago)

yuk.

Huk-L, Monday, 27 December 2004 20:58 (twenty years ago)

Da fug...?

it's a new printing from Fantagraphics with another Coleman strip as backup, not a recently discovered cache or anything.

kit brash (kit brash), Tuesday, 28 December 2004 13:27 (twenty years ago)

Oh, okay.

(um, actually I've never heard of it and I just thought it sounded funny. possibly something along the lines of this: http://www.comicsvf.com/scans/volimited/wolverinedoop/1.jpg)

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 28 December 2004 14:07 (twenty years ago)

"WOO-BAIT"!

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 28 December 2004 14:34 (twenty years ago)

Oooooh, Darwyn Cooke!

Huk-L, Tuesday, 28 December 2004 14:38 (twenty years ago)

oh right, I thought you were surprised at the price/wide availability or something. It's a comic by painter/performance artist/nutbag Joe Coleman from 1982, self-published at the time and fairly expensive due to it being so hard to find and him becoming better known as a "fine" artist since.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 10:21 (twenty years ago)

Stupid holidays. No comics until Thursday.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 29 December 2004 20:30 (twenty years ago)

Oh really, no comics today? I was going to go.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 20:33 (twenty years ago)

Is that a Boxing Day thing, Huk?

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 20:36 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, as far as I can tell, it's a localized thing, sorry. I should have made that more clear.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 29 December 2004 20:41 (twenty years ago)

So the U.S. DOES have comics today?

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 20:46 (twenty years ago)

Maybe best to call your shop before heading out.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 29 December 2004 20:49 (twenty years ago)

I got stuff.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 22:40 (twenty years ago)

I'm only going to get Legion #1 - glad that it's finally out, I've been looking forward to it.

Matthew "Flux" Perpetua, Thursday, 30 December 2004 00:26 (twenty years ago)

I might get that. I not sure if Flash and Outsiders (and where's the Teen Titans that was supposed to ship last week?) are gonna be here. If they're not, it's freakin' blizzarding outside...I'm staying home.

Huk-L, Thursday, 30 December 2004 14:35 (twenty years ago)

BOO. Severe weather has closed the highways, meaning my comics are stuck out there, in the savage wilds of the Cdn Prairie until tomorrow.

Huk-L, Thursday, 30 December 2004 17:46 (twenty years ago)

I FINALLY read Identity Crisis #7! I don't blame Meltzer; I blame DC.

That is all. (Well, I did READ more, but whatevah.)

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 30 December 2004 22:40 (twenty years ago)

What do you mean?
I blame Meltzer. Not in a bad way, just in the way that I want to gouge out his eyes.

Huk-L, Friday, 31 December 2004 14:39 (twenty years ago)

If anyone's interested, this link should work for a few more days:

I'll wait to be strung up, but I thought IC was above average OK, though the ridonkulous amount of hype DC (and, I guess, to some degree, MELTZER!) shoved up the book's tush was wickedly unwarranted. If this came out as a GN via a small indie / self-publishing deal, it would've rec'd mucho praise. Play in the DC sandbox, and fannies get all twisted. Dong.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 01:24 (twenty years ago)

Okay, good. I wasn't sure what you meant, and then I went a posted a very unrepresatative (of what I think of IC) statement, so I muddied things further.
Yeah, hype-wise, boo DC!, but story-wise, this is all Meltzer, and I think the severe disappointment most people feel when reading #7 is the intended reaction. This sort of story is par for the course in crime fiction, (see: Dennis Lehane's Mystic River) (or even BMB's Powers: Who Killed Retro Girl?) but, FUCK, the Justice Fucking League of Fucking America!

(on a related side-note, I hit some back-issue bins hard on the boxing week sale tip and picked up JLofA #181, where Green Arrow quits the League because now that they let Firestorm in, they're too powerful and he can't relate. But there's a scene where the JLA is sitting around the satellite after GA has left, talking what a mood that Oliver is in, and the Atom brings out a plate of cookies his wife baked. I read that and I was like, "Don't go there, Dibny!" Aw, dramatic irony, 30 years postehaste!)

Huk-L, Tuesday, 4 January 2005 04:33 (twenty years ago)

The issue of Adam Strange that came out in this week left me open mouthed and drooling, like the sad, helpless Omega Men fanboy that I am.

I think I need to change my 'Best of 2004' nomination.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Monday, 10 January 2005 16:35 (twenty years ago)

Omega Men has fans???!!!

Huk-L, Monday, 10 January 2005 16:38 (twenty years ago)

I just added Detective and Super/Bat to my pull list. Even though S/B's next arc will probably suck the big one, since the current one is so great.
