This is a thread about the new series! And the Secret Files one-shot preceeding the series w/ art by DARWYN COOKE! Here!

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 17 January 2005 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

ooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Huk-L, Monday, 17 January 2005 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

The story will focus on Jordan reliving THE MOST MEANINGFUL FIGHTS OF HIS LIFE. Punch by meaning-laden punch.

Vic Fluro, Tuesday, 18 January 2005 01:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Does that mean it's only going to be 8 pages?

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 01:40 (twenty-one years ago)

"Oooh, Sinestro! Oooh, Star Sapphire! Ooooh, the 27 times I should've been called on my lazy racism by Pieface! Ooooh, mustard!"

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 01:41 (twenty-one years ago)

"This was THE MOST MEANINGFUL FIGHT OF ALL - the fight with MY OWN SOUL as that ratty old black fellah rambled on about orange skins and purple skins, and then I looked a bit sad and pissed off without saying another word to him, ever again, to look around America in a COOL JEEP!!"

Vic Fluro, Tuesday, 18 January 2005 01:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, cuz all those other superheroes are just teeming with depth!

Huk-L, Tuesday, 18 January 2005 04:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Marvel Comics is just one really long puberty metaphor.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 18 January 2005 04:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Green Lantern is puberty itself!

Huk-L, Tuesday, 18 January 2005 04:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Green Lantern is fear of internal water sports.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 05:41 (twenty-one years ago)

OMG, GL is totally about bedwetting anxiety!

Huk-L, Tuesday, 18 January 2005 05:46 (twenty-one years ago)

When I was 19 I figured the best way to kill GL would be to trap him in a huge vat of piss. Light would filter through it so it'd be yellow all the way down, and his willpower would be distracted by the ungodly taste.

In fact, that's a 100-page giant right there.

Vic Fluro, Tuesday, 18 January 2005 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

80 pages is a Giant, 100 pages is a digest.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 18 January 2005 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I really should have clicked on this thread earlier today.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 23:00 (twenty-one years ago)

"Drown In Piss Digest"

With special scratch-n-sniff cover. I'd buy that comic for four whole dollars.

Huk-L, Friday, 15 April 2005 14:43 (twenty years ago)

The last issue of Rebirth was pretty meh. AND ENOUGH WITH THE NARRATION ALREADY! "I was dead. I must win. Nice try, Pinky. Sinestro must be stopped. I hope I still have Carol's number."

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 15 April 2005 14:46 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, quit writing directly to the Msg Bd nurds, Mr. Johns.
"You will respect him!" Fuck that noize.

Huk-L, Friday, 15 April 2005 14:49 (twenty years ago)

When is he going to team up with the British version of Green Lantern, interplanetary policeman The Blue Lamp.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 15 April 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

YAY FOR DAVE GIBBONS!

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 28 April 2005 14:43 (twenty years ago)

I wish he was drawing it too, though.

Huk-L, Thursday, 28 April 2005 14:50 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, but I'll take him any way I can get (even tho his Gil Kane / Dick Giordano artistic tendencies would be perfect for a GL title) (which is pretty obvious, as he DID GL for a while) (not that I need to tell you that).

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 28 April 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

I'm not familiar with Patrick Gleason (who reads Aquaman?), but the drawing accompanying the article meets with my approval. Gardner's sneer is appropriately Gardnernian.

Huk-L, Thursday, 28 April 2005 15:23 (twenty years ago)

Salakk: classic.

Kilowog: dud.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 28 April 2005 15:25 (twenty years ago)

Pre-Emerald Dawn Kilowog is classic. He was a weird commie outsider who had kept the souls of his entire planet (destroyed in the Crisis) in his ring and had a crush on Hal Jordan's squeeze.

Huk-L, Thursday, 28 April 2005 15:29 (twenty years ago)

All that is outweighed for me by the word "poozers".

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 28 April 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

Point taken.
Does that mean you also hate Ch'p for his frequent refrain of "Oh my stars and little fishes!"?

Huk-L, Thursday, 28 April 2005 15:33 (twenty years ago)

http://www.comics.org/graphics/covers/3148/200/3148_2_208.jpg

Huk-L, Thursday, 28 April 2005 15:34 (twenty years ago)

No, Ch'p is classic whatever he says.

Also classic: Driq, that GL who is a huge amoeba, that GL who is a planet, Abin Sur

Also dud: Arisia, that GL who is basically a Lobo rip off.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 28 April 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

You mean Guy Gardner, Tom?

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 28 April 2005 15:46 (twenty years ago)

I thought he meant Jack T. Chance.

Huk-L, Thursday, 28 April 2005 15:47 (twenty years ago)

Yes Huk that's the fella. All the human GLs are classic, except Guy Gardner in Warrior mode.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 28 April 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)

And he wasn't really human then anyway.

Huk-L, Thursday, 28 April 2005 15:57 (twenty years ago)

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME:

"You who are wicked, evil, and mean -
- I'm the nastiest creep you've *ever* seen!
Come one, come all; put up a fight;
I'll pound your butts with Green Lantern's light.
Yowza."

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 28 April 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

From John Ostrander, no less!

Huk-L, Thursday, 28 April 2005 16:02 (twenty years ago)

YOU HAVE REALLY GOT TO BE KIDDING ME.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 28 April 2005 16:03 (twenty years ago)

I have really to brush the grammar up on mine.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 28 April 2005 16:06 (twenty years ago)

YOWSA

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:04 (twenty years ago)

Holy crap. I didn't realize that the Yowza was part of the oath.

Huk-L, Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:40 (twenty years ago)

Wow, Dave Gibbons has me interested in buying a Green Lantern series. That's kind of amazing to me. I love the idea of teaming up Kyle Rayner and Guy Gardner.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Thursday, 28 April 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

Dave is that from the Cowboy Troy album?

Tom (Groke), Friday, 29 April 2005 05:15 (twenty years ago)

I will say "yes" so I don't have to find out what "the Cowboy Troy album" is.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 29 April 2005 12:31 (twenty years ago)

I just googled "yowsa" and "green lantern" and came up with a traumatic buffy/spike fanfic site. On second thoughts, will spare you of url.

Conservative funny-book fans make shitty comics that are laughably absurd. Liberal comics fans use comics to point out the absurdity of our current foreign policy. Both just kinda make me want to go read Thor. Anyhow, Matt Yglesias and his "Green Lantern Theory of Geopolitics" definitely have a much greater grasp on anything remotely resemblance reality.

barefoot manthing (Garrett Martin), Monday, 10 July 2006 19:08 (nineteen years ago)

Not to distract from the green content of this thread (sigh - remember when ILC was ILGL, and enthusiasm was boundless for what could be?), but the back-up that's being included in issues of Liberality - called "LIBIZARRO" or something - is a Splenda-sweetened bag of roffles. There's a preview on that site Bareman linked to.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 10 July 2006 19:44 (nineteen years ago)

resembLING!

dammit...

but yes, LIBIZARRO looks quite humorous, in the way that Hannity's show can be if you're able to look past the hate and idiocy.

barefoot manthing (Garrett Martin), Monday, 10 July 2006 19:48 (nineteen years ago)

So is Liberoffles for All confirmed satire then?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 10 July 2006 19:49 (nineteen years ago)

No, no - LFA is straight-up thrill-powered superfun (10 Thrills Per Issue / 15 TPI when you D/L it) for the true American in everyone (especially Canadians). Libizarro is the satire - I think it involves Hilary Clinton, John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, and Howard Dean, and their ALTERNATIVE SELVES! Zingers abound!

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 10 July 2006 19:52 (nineteen years ago)

I'd be surprised if it is. And, like the Right Brothers, it's better than any actual satire could ever hope to be.

Positives:
So that's why they call him Pieface! (he's fat, ie, he likes to put pie in his face)
There won't be big line-ups opening weekend
They saved money for effects by hiring an offbrand Jonah Hill

it's making me think of Men in Black, weirdly

KyleP (Princess TamTam), Sunday, 14 November 2010 16:54 (fifteen years ago)

hmmmm, very good point. Blake Lively is no Linda Fiorentino, however, Angela Bassett (who is) is listed in the credits.

heh i was looking for a thread to say i'd seen the GL trailer at the cinema and it looked fucking terrible

Ward Fowler, Friday, 26 November 2010 22:27 (fifteen years ago)

the exposed-muscle cgi uniform looks creepy and hideous, and also like he has lee/liefeld lines all over him

the cgi PARACHUTE at the start sets the tone

carol ferris is a high-school girl, not a CEO

everything looks p dumb except Hector Hammond, who looks so hilarious I cannot WAIT for this to come to TV

i'm assuming that it's tity boi, host of the mixtape (sic), Saturday, 27 November 2010 02:17 (fifteen years ago)

Hammond looks awesome

Disgraced Homo Cop (Princess TamTam), Saturday, 27 November 2010 02:56 (fifteen years ago)

I liked Hammond and the alien Lanterns. Ryan Reynolds isn't as believable as the CGI.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 27 November 2010 03:02 (fifteen years ago)

cut your losses on the branding Warner Brothers, rename this thing HECTOR HAMMOND and watch the $ roll in

new footage, looks a lot better aside from the mask - apparently the lack of advertising up until now is because they're really pushing the deadline re: the effects
