Miracula - late 80s/early 90s self-aware vampire hero?

My friend used to have a copy of a comic starring this
weird Batman/Superman-type character. (It's not Mister Miracle)
He would go on self-righteous superhero rampages while in a vampire state,
but then suddenly become all morose and guilt-ridden in his human
form (where he relies on all sorts of ridiculous gadgetry to
fight with) I remember thinking Buffy the Vampire Slayer ripped
off the tone, but can't really recall too much about the comic
to be sure. Anyways, I think there may have been a Kyle Baker zombie comic
that predated both of them. But does anyone have any more info?
I've never been able to locate another issue.

How great would be if that was the subtitle of the comic.

MIRACULA: SELF-AWARE VAMPIRE HERO!

Didn't Alan Moore once name-drop Miracula in an interview about Promethea?

Is Moore conflating this comic with milagrolo (sp?)
the lucha libre wrestler with unholy nocturno powers?
My spanish is crap, though, so I'm not sure if he's
a vampire too or what. I think they both have
some kind of batman-like cowls.

No I think I've heard of this. It was like a Mexican comic or something and they just translated it into English. It wasn't widely distributed but you get these comics journal type guys who've got all the issues. Apparently, the production values were so bad that you can sometimes even see the original Spanish underneath where they pasted the new lettering for the American edition.

Are you thinking of tijuana bibles?
Although I remembered Milagrolo being quite the dapper chap with the ladies,
he was a little too busy applying supernatural suplexes to his
archenemy "The Conquistador" who bears a striking resemblance
to the V for Vendetta guy (and has to predate him by at least
10 or more years). No hanky panky though.

Yeah, that might have been the context in which moore mentioned milagrolo nee miracula. The interviewer asked him where he got his ideas and he said that a lot of what seemed like his most innovative ideas came from tradiational sources. So he said V for Vendetta's costume was like guy fawkes + milagro. I don't think they were actually tijuana bibles, though moore did his standard superhero-as-homoerotic-subtext critique. Has anyone else heard of this guy? I did an ebay search the other day and didn't find anything.

Okay, now this could be total BS, but I read in a weblog the other day that DC plans on resurrecting (no pun intended) miracula and tying him in somehow with INFINITY CRISIS. It's just like what they're doing with Maxwell Lord, but Miracula was so "edgy" and vertigoey to start with that they don't really have to change him very much--very "ultimates," very mark millar/warren ellis. has anyone else heard about this?
