I'll be presenting a paper at the Pop Culture Association conference, and by jove, they've got a bunch of comics panels. Hopefully I'll be there to attend them, but if not, I'll try to snag some papers. Take a look through the program, and if there's anything that strikes your fancy, let me know and I'll try to grab it.

It indeed will be fun, but I just found out that the papers will officially cost $$$, so I'll have to find out the emails of the authors which means I might not be able to get all of these.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Thursday, 17 February 2005 15:30 (twenty years ago)

Jordan, if you're interested in collector's impulses, there's a book out (called Collecting: Some Sufficiently Intellectual Sub-Title) that, among other assertions, compares the impulse to collect w/ the impulse to retain one's feces! That's an interesting & thought-provoking comparison in my eyes, FWIW. Unfortunately, that's as far as I got in the book - my attention-span when it comes to wordy things has taken a nosedive in recent years / lifetimes.

Leeee, is there pricing info on the site? Also, what if we want YOUR paper?

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 17 February 2005 15:33 (twenty years ago)

Leee, can anyone attend these sessions?

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 17 February 2005 15:41 (twenty years ago)

Not sure about the pricing, but in my registration packet it sez I can pick up unsold papers near the end of the shindig.

If you want my as-yet-unwritten paper, just send Tara Chace n00dz to the addy below.

xpost Jordan: I think you've got to register for the conference, unfortunately, though I don't see anything anywhere yet about ppl who are just attending as opposed to presenting.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Thursday, 17 February 2005 15:50 (twenty years ago)

I really want to go to this. Obviously I won't, but I'm going to try to make it next year.

Huk-L, Thursday, 17 February 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

I sent the link to my girlfriend, and we would seriously consider going if we could get in.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 17 February 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

Academic conferences are usually open to the public, but I'm sure there's a registration fee since they're using a hotel and not just a campus, and registration might be limited.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 17 February 2005 16:06 (twenty years ago)

I found out it will cost the moneys, but also that it is possible to sneak in.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Saturday, 19 February 2005 17:08 (twenty years ago)

From the email of someone who knows what's going on:

Technically, the prices for all go up an additional $50 on March 1, but really, as long as you pay before March 14, you can attend without presenting (and receive a program, nametag, etc.) for $50.

If you don't need a print program, nametag, etc., then you can simply pay a $5 day fee at the conference for each day you'd like to attend panels.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 03:17 (twenty years ago)

Are the nametags made out of lobster or something?

Huk-L, Tuesday, 22 February 2005 05:52 (twenty years ago)

I have a draft of my paper ready, anyone who's curious (and amenable to peer reviewing it) email me at redhalcyon AT yahooSAPHET DOT com.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Saturday, 5 March 2005 21:32 (twenty years ago)

This way you save $1!

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:20 (twenty years ago)

So, is anyone going to try to make this?

Also, I just found out that the paper that I really want for my thesis is written by a H!GH SCHOOLER!?

This paper looks interesting: "Millennial and Apocalyptic Discourse Online: The Case of John Titor's Time Travel Stories"

And I've printed out my paper, anyone who wants a copy yadda yadda to the addy I mentioned above. It'll be the most attention I get, since my panel is at 8AM ON SATURDAY.
