Is Portland still a cool comix town?

I heard Mignola went back to NYC, but am really wondering if there's a bunch of comic shops I can spend an afternoon walking around to and from and hopefully a decent edition of LOSH #294 for less than $7.

This is what ILC was paging me about?

I only know from indie comic shops, which probably won't stock anything with an issue above 100. There's a nice and friendly one in the Goldsmith building on umm NW 5th and Couch I think? Floating World, I think? Yes. Also there's always Reading Frenzy around the corner from Powells. But, like, "normal" comics shops? I have no idea.

Also wtf with you visiting Portland AFTER I move to Canada. w. t. f. waaaataaaaafuuuuuuu.

Surely Douglas knows about proper non-indie comics shops in PDX, though.

For decent prices/big selection of back issues, I like Excalibur (on SE Hawthorne) a lot. Lately I've been going to Cosmic Monkey (on NE Sandy) almost every week, too--I like their look and their attitude, and they're very well stocked on both Marvel/DC and indies. Floating World is wonderful but very indie-and-new-stuff focused. Bridge City is fun if you're up in NoPo (no back issues, though); I hear Guapo's gotten to be pretty good too, but haven't been there in a while.

Like Douglas said, Excalibur and Cosmic Monkey are the best places for digging through old back issues. I'm a big fan of Guapo - large selection of new indies and minicomics, but with full selection of new, big-publisher stuff as well. Also coffee. But virtually no back issues, so perhaps not what you're looking for.

And not sure any of the shops are within easy walking distance of each other (unless you're willing to walk on and off buses as part of your expedition).

yeah, Excalibur was awesome. Got what I was looking for on the cheap. AND was impressed with their selection of Silver Age back issues in less than NM condition, ie AFFORDABLE.
