COME BACK TEP! & come in, New ILC Blood!

In case anyone has a case of the Mondays, look what Marvel's shipping: MARVEL MILESTONES VENOM AND HERCULES

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 18 April 2005 13:07 (twenty years ago)

Lucifer and Klarion The Witchboy crossover! Or not.

Dear Mr DC: Nice to see you making up for the delay in reprinting the middle third of Animal Man by re-reprinting it inside a year, but how about some more Doom Patrol instead? Same goes for Sandman.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 18 April 2005 13:29 (twenty years ago)

Ex Machina, Lucifer, Seven Soldiers, maaaybe JLA Classified, Wolverine (but only reluctantly), and Runaways for me. And is that a new Bendis/Maleev Daredevil trade I see?

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 18 April 2005 13:33 (twenty years ago)

I just bought that second Animal Man trade last week, I loved it. META AS FUCK. I have to get the third (and final?) trade this week.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 18 April 2005 13:34 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, this set of Giffen / DeMatteis shenanigans isn't doing much for me on any front, but I'll give it a chance, as the Blue Beetle & Buster Gold wearing fast food hats is too goofy to pass up. I AM geeked for the next arc, tho, by WARREN F*#KIN' ELLIS (and some artist guy).

&, actually, this 2nd half of the Millar Wolveringing has been a LOT easier to "enjoy" than the first half. (Speaking of which, swapping WE for MM on UFF = UGH.)

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 18 April 2005 13:37 (twenty years ago)

JLA Classified #6 preview pages: http://www.buzzscope.com/reviews.php?id=4078

So I'll be getting that, and the Question and, um, Teen Titans, even though the same storyline (Dr. Light seeks revenge on Green Arrow for Ident. Crisis shenanigans) is set to run in Green Arrow starting in June? Wtf? Multiple earths, perhaps?

And I grabbed Vol. 1 of Stray Bullets on Friday, and it kicks ass. I haven't finished it yet, but Amy Racecar rules. If I ever have a daughter, she might be named that.

Huk-L, Monday, 18 April 2005 13:49 (twenty years ago)

has ellis gone to any effort to justify his recent return to company-owned properties? (okay presumably the answer is "to salvage his career" but i just wonder if he admits it)

tom west (thomp), Monday, 18 April 2005 13:58 (twenty years ago)

The only justification he needs is "I just got the cable bill".

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:01 (twenty years ago)

And while I'm not quite a WE skeptic (I'll pay your bill, Mr. Ellis!), his work in the Ultimate 'Verse & on Iron Man (when it decides to come out) is excellent.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:09 (twenty years ago)

I believe he's calling it his "Year of Whoredom" (although it seems to me like it's gone well beyond a year).

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:40 (twenty years ago)

Expensive week for me:

Daredevil: The Golden Age
Milligan X-Men
Justice League Classified

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:40 (twenty years ago)

Don't feel any rush to get Daredevil: TGA, Matthew (and holy shit, does Marvel pump those trades out or what? DC take notice!), it's the least of the BMB arcs that I've read, though Maleev's art, typically, is awesome.

Huk-L, Monday, 18 April 2005 15:43 (twenty years ago)

Okay, but I'm really excited to read it, mostly cos it brings me entirely up to date with DD and I can continue the rest of the series in individual issues from here on out.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:45 (twenty years ago)

A SCARAB TO DIE ON !!!

Huk-L, Thursday, 21 April 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

It wasn't awful or anything but it was a bit boring and the art was very static I thought.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 21 April 2005 19:18 (twenty years ago)

O, AN ACROBAT DIES!!!

Huk-L, Thursday, 21 April 2005 19:22 (twenty years ago)

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 21 April 2005 19:26 (twenty years ago)

how's klarion? i really liked the preview

j blount (papa la bas), Thursday, 21 April 2005 22:34 (twenty years ago)

Really really really good, I'm sort of trying to write a review of it, maybe tomorrow.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 21 April 2005 22:47 (twenty years ago)

is it a horror comic? the preview i saw gave hints of 'maybe' and i'm thinking between a witchboy and frankenstein surely one of these will be a horror comic. plz plz plz.

j blount (papa la bas), Friday, 22 April 2005 06:38 (twenty years ago)

oh the new seven soldiers is soooo goth! It's cool i like it

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 22 April 2005 06:49 (twenty years ago)

Yes it is James! Well sort of, it's a teen rebel comic with one really nasty central horror idea.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 22 April 2005 08:13 (twenty years ago)

From what I understand Frankenstein is going to be more Weird Science in a kind of Seaguy Lite style.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 22 April 2005 08:13 (twenty years ago)

I think it's my favorite seven soldiers episode yet.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 22 April 2005 08:32 (twenty years ago)

Geeky speculation time: is Stargard perhaps Klarion's father?

Tom (Groke), Friday, 22 April 2005 09:53 (twenty years ago)

Here's my review (LOADS of spoilers)

Birds of Prey Spoilers

New artist: - still boobtastic, but now boobtastic + amateurish looking

Canary teams up with Wildcat - cool. Funny to hear about Wildcat's B movie past, also the Fanboys will cry as 12 super kung fu expert baddies are introduced which will totally mess up their "Who is the greatest martial artist in the DCU?" rankings.

meanwhile, Huntress and the Gay Lunks infiltrate the mob in a storyline presumably designed to make her realise how much she misses the other Birds.

Mark C (Markco), Friday, 22 April 2005 12:26 (twenty years ago)

New artist: - still boobtastic, but now boobtastic + amateurish looking

If you're talking about Joe Bennett, then those be fightin words.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 22 April 2005 12:32 (twenty years ago)

maybe it's the inker's fault

backtrack! backtrack!

Mark C (Markco), Friday, 22 April 2005 13:24 (twenty years ago)

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Saturday, 23 April 2005 14:37 (twenty years ago)

who writes birds of prey at the moment? i flicked through a(n old) collection in the library that was awful, taking itself too seriously? i never like that as a criticism but anyway. weird notion for a comic. awful title. but some of the characters could be interesting, i guess.

tom west (thomp), Saturday, 23 April 2005 23:05 (twenty years ago)

Chuck Dixon used to write it, I thought, back when it was terrible. Gail Simone writes it now, and I keep meaning to check it out after her fantastic work on Agent X

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Sunday, 24 April 2005 12:15 (twenty years ago)

OMAC Project was kinda lame. Saiz needs an outside inker. Rucka needs to realize that nobody gives a shit about his Batman run. (and I like Rucka, I do)

Huk-L, Monday, 25 April 2005 13:47 (twenty years ago)

ooh, gail simone could do a good job of it probably.

the thing i read was by dixon. yup.

tom west (thomp), Monday, 25 April 2005 16:07 (twenty years ago)

JLA: Classified #6: soooooo good. Guy Gardner, the Jerk, is back in full effect as only Giffen & DeMatteis (and possibly Steve Englehart--who essentially created the character) can write him. The plot seems to be moving at an utterly glacial pace, but the opening sequence (seen nearly in full in the above preview) is absolute genius. The relentess jokes on top of jokes reminds of Arrested Development.

The Question #6: Sad to see it go. Bizarre revelation about the villain and almost-cute last page. ***Vic Sage please report to OMAC Project for some much needed weirding up***

Teen Titans #23: Hey look, it's every Titan ever! Except the one you (but not me) really want to see. And also not the embarrasing ones from the 90s. Well, some of them, but not too many.
