There's, um, stuff! Like Human Target, Sleeper, and, uh, "Cartoon Network Lighting Up the Blizzock" stuff! Do I have to do everything myself around here?? Jeez.

(just kidding, David!)

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 25 April 2005 15:13 (twenty years ago)

It's actually a REALLY light week for me, just Human Target (since I'm reading Sleeper and Daredevil in trades). Fine with me, since I didn't go last week.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 25 April 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

FEB050244 BATMAN #639 $2.25
FEB050253 BATMAN BLIND JUSTICE TP NEW PTG $14.99 (maybe, I should go check out my stash in my parents' garage, because I was reading 'Tec when this ran originally, and should still have it)
FEB050335 CITY OF TOMORROW #1 (OF 6) (MR) $2.99 (what is this? A "mature readers" Superman tale? or something completely different?)
FEB050274 DAY OF VENGEANCE #1 (OF 6) $2.50 (Bring on Detective Chimp!)
FEB050277 FLASH #221 $2.25 (Rogue War heats up!)
FEB050303 SOLO #4 $4.99 (is this the Darwyn Cooke issue? or is it the Chaykin? It's the Chaykin, isn't it? Forget it, then.)

And Daredevil.

Huk-L, Monday, 25 April 2005 15:23 (twenty years ago)

Oh shit, is it the last issue of Human Target?

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 25 April 2005 16:24 (twenty years ago)

It might be! It's coming soon (WHICH SUCKS).

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 25 April 2005 16:35 (twenty years ago)

BTW - Huk, I think City of Tomorrow is a sci-fi mini by your fave HOWARD CHAYKIN!

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 25 April 2005 16:36 (twenty years ago)

Have we had a Chaykin thread?

Huk-L, Monday, 25 April 2005 16:39 (twenty years ago)

FEB050292 IDENTITY CRISIS FINAL PRINTING #7 (OF 7)
FEB051890 DAREDEVIL #72 $2.99

I'm attempting to get back into comics.. i can get a few of the recent Batman issues, which looked good if I recall, and I still haven't filled in holes in reading Identity Crisis. but i have gotten the latest daredevil trade, thus bringing me back up to date with that.

what else is worth reading? is x-men crap again/still? any DC universe/JLA things very excting?

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 02:28 (twenty years ago)

x-men writers currently = joss whedon (good), peter milligan (bad) (well bad start but apparently on an upswing but how much do you really care about havok and polaris anyway), and claremont (claremont).

DCU thing i am kicking myself for not being able to keep up with is grant morrison's 'seven soldiers' collection of miniseries about random golden age characters: the last two were KLARION THE WITCHBOY #1, ZATANNA #1

tom west (thomp), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 02:35 (twenty years ago)

Flash and LSH for me. I'm looking forward to Flash, but not so sure about Legion - they have had 2 good issues and 2 meh issues so far.

Mark C (Markco), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 09:20 (twenty years ago)

Which ones were "meh", Mark? Not that it really matters, but I want to PROVE YOU WRONG! (j/k, of course)

Ian, you might want to give Runaways a try, if you're looking for some primo young X-Men vibe - there's a couple of manga-sized trades, & also (if you can find it), some cheapie comic-sized collection of the first three issues (I believe), both from the first series (18 issues). The 2nd series (possibly only 12 issues, but might be unlimited) just began a few months ago, so you can start there & not be too lost (though a BIG plot twist from the 1st series is assumed knowledge entering the 2nd).

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 12:36 (twenty years ago)

I really liked the first two legions but didn't like the last two, with Triplicate Lass and Invisible Kid - they each had ok bits but the lame forced humour and lack of plot momentum made me a bit disappointed.

also they keep focussing on the same few legionnaires - where the hell are saturn girl, lightening lad and princess projectra (who are all supposed to be on the team)

Mark C (Markco), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 13:03 (twenty years ago)

Ian the best superhero game in town at the moment is Seven Soldiers - one comic every two weeks, spread across seven miniseries (a google will sort you out re.publishing schedule). All new incarnations of minor characters, not much continuity baggage and the seven series interlocking nicely.

So far we've had bondage cowboys, fantasy talking horse action, crime-busting two-fisted weird pulp heroics, fishnet angst and puritan goth zombie madness. Next week we find out if the talking horse somehow survived and I can't wait.

Also Runaways is good, Astonishing X-Men is a solid read and if you're a Marvel fan of old then New Avengers is worth a read.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 13:09 (twenty years ago)

Tom, have you given Young Avengers a look? It's actually a nice combo of Runaways & New Avengers (even if the artist - whose work is otherwise spectacular - does seem to draw the same purty faces on all the womenfolk).

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 13:19 (twenty years ago)

Yeah I've read the first few issues on .cbr - it's not really gelling for me. I like the feisty lady who may or may not end up being the new Hawkeye, and Patriot is sort of interesting but the rest of it is a bit boring. Also Kang is a tool.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 13:26 (twenty years ago)

I really disagree that Peter Milligan is doing a bad job on X-Men. He was a little shaky at first, but he's gradually acting more like himself with each passing issue. I think it should be pretty good once this "Golgotha" thing is out of the way.

But hey, I'm a Milligan fanboy and I'm really sad that Human Target is being cancelled. The poor guy is sales poison.

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Sunday, 1 May 2005 14:56 (twenty years ago)

ooh! ooh, Losers, Sleeper, HAPPY DANCE!

Dan I. (Dan I.), Monday, 2 May 2005 06:56 (twenty years ago)

Flash was OK - basically just FITE FITE FITE, with the two teams of Rogues twatting each other for a bit, Flash showing up for five minutes and the Top suddenly appearing to demonstrate his new plot-device mind powers.

LSH was better this month - Saturn girl, Lightning Lad and some substitue legionnaire types vs some supervillians. Also Timber Wolf! Hurrah! Though without his pointy haircut! Boo!

I also got the Black widow trade - i didn't know if it was supposed to be any good but I like Bill Sieinkewicz, even if I can't spell his name. The plot was a bit rubbish - Widow vs Estee Lauder - especially the bit where you learn that Nick fury has been controlling BW with his manly musk or Hai Karate or something. Still, it sure looked pretty.

Mark C (Markco), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 10:34 (twenty years ago)

I like Timber Wolf!
Especially during the ...Five Years Later... era where he had become even more wolfen. I didn't stick with the series long enough to see that explained, but I remember noticing he had his own mini shortly after, so he musta regained some articulation or something.
