Robert Kirkman: C/D

Inspired by what seemed to be an offbase slap across the bough of The Walking Dead in the latest issue of TCJ - "OMG Kirkman's just killing characters off willy nilly what a jerk". (Ah, paraphrasing.) I'm of a mind that turning that trick effectively is a nice way to keep readers off-balance and push the story forward AND keep the writer honest and on his/her toes.

Anyway, the rep he's garnered from his work on Invincible and The Walking Dead is totally deserved, even though his Marvel work hasn't measured up to the standards he's set for himself (though Marvel Team-Up is loads of fun, esp. for folks like me that remember when two characters teaming up was a fun fancy & fresh thing) (ah, nostalgia). I guess Battle Pope (his FIRST work) is getting polished up for republication via Image, so let's talk, turkey!

PS - J0rdan, I think the letterer you have problems w/ (in regard to supposed spelling mistakes in The Walking Dead) is one ROBERT KIRKMAN!

Haha, KIRKMAN GET ONE DICTIONARY.

Spelling and grammar aside, one of my favorite things about TWD is that (almost) none of the characters seem to be immortal solely because they're main characters. Also, there's not a sense of "okay someone died, I guess that's the big event for this issue", 'cause he piles it on thick sometimes.

And I say "almost" because the main cop dude and his family are still the focus, but I think it would be cool if eventually there was a complete turnover of the original cast.

I dunno, I picked up the first trade of The Walking Dead and it seemed much more "relationship soap-opera drama" than "exciting zombie adventure." Does it pick up later on, or is that pretty much it?

No, that's pretty much it.

As if every zombie flick / horror flick worth a damn ain't just a relationship soap-opera drama w/ fake blood & guts. (NOTE: I might be wrong.)

nine months pass...
nahnah nahnah nahnah KIRK MAN

EVERYTHING THAT CHANGED in The Walking Dead - OMG HELICOPTER AND RIOT GEAR. Also, Marvel Team-Up is kinda turfing right now. And Invincible (boffo when it's around) seems to be on the Joe Quesada Mini Series release schedule. However, both Ultimate X-Men & Cosmic Marvel Zombies are upping my thumbs.

Marvel Zombies has seriously surpassed my expectations of how good it would be -- I didn't read the UFF arc because of, you know, the Millar Factar, but still figured it had to be good. Even my girlfriend loves it, and she had to ask me who half the characters are.

There is no Kirkman C. Maybe, perhaps the first six issues of THE WALKING DEAD. But as soon as they stopped moving, so did any of my interest in the series. More zombies less post armageddon daytime soap please.
