BPRD C/D

Outside of Hollow Earth (which I have and is ok at best), what's the verdict on BPRD? I have a strange fear about approaching Mignola-written stories that don't have him drawing -- even though I adore his writing!

the whole Plague of Frogs thing is iffy. Mignola beats psuedo-Mignola.

Plague Of Frogs very patchy, The Dead was quite good.

But overall, a bit meh. Needs much, much more Lobster Johnson. The 'Hollow Earth' collection is probably worth it, less so the 'Venice' one.

three years pass...

At this temp job I have been hithertoo working on Chargeback Maintanance, CBMT.

Today I've been moved to Benefit Payment Response Detail.

Relatedly, Guy Davis is awesome.

I've only read the first two BPRD books. Other than the Lobster Johnson story drawn by Scott Kolins, which I thought was awesome, the rest was just OK. I really like the Hellboy stuff I have read, but the BPRD didn't get me enthused enough to seek out any more, although I may have not read the good stuff. One thing that I was thinking is that the characters of the BPRD are just not as visually captivating as Hellboy himself. Abe, Roger, Liz are all decent characters and backgrounds, but to me they just are all really off green and brown. There is not that much visual pizzazz or something without the big red character in the middle.

I haven't read the BPRD that Guy Davis has done, but I like his artwork on Sandman Mystery Theatre and I could see him working pretty good at this kind of stuff.
