every time I open up my Smithsonian Collection of Newspaper Comics the preponderance of racist stereotypes (esp of black people, but also Chinese, Hispanics, Jews, etc.) is kinda breathtaking. Up until the 60s its like every single strip was populated by blatantly racist caricatures. Even the good ones! with very, VERY few exceptions
