Not sure how much of a long shot this'll be.
My nephew is ten -- but a very good reader -- and can read Cantonese. I'm hoping to get him a good Chinese comic for his birthday. He loves Calvin & Hobbs and Marvel classics. He's big on adventure and has a sophisticated sense of humor, but obviously I want something age-appropriate.
Any ideas?

I'm sure we could all recommend tons of good stuff you might be able to find in a Cantonese translation... I for one have zero knowledge of comics of Chinese origin, though.

If you settle for a translation, Tintin would fit the bill, and is certainly available in pretty much every language - reckon you could get Cantonese editions on Amazon.

not sure if there will be a chinese-cum-Cantonese version of a translation; most writtenChinese stuff ends up in mandarin. I'm in hk right now and could trawl a few shops for you, see what I could dig up ( would help me too)

Tintin would work. He's read a bunch of those already, and I'm not sure which ones. I also, yeah, worry about picking up the Mandarin edition. Mandarin is not yet under the guy's belt.
