COULD MANGA BE NEXT!!!

Huk-L, Wednesday, 15 June 2005 17:02 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I think I'll just repost the questions in that article in boldface instead of reaching for the funny.

Why would a creator name a comic book character Umbra? Or Element Lad? Holly Go-Nightly? Abomination? Kang? Soldier X? Thunderbolt Ross? How do they come up with these, ummm, unusual names?

AND IS MANGA NEXT?!?!?!

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 17:04 (twenty years ago)

OMG

Huk-L, Wednesday, 15 June 2005 17:05 (twenty years ago)

i suck.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 15 June 2005 17:05 (twenty years ago)

You don't now!

But, yeah - the only thing worse than asking these questions is someone taking the time to answer them. (Being a condescending know-it-all is fun!)

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 17:09 (twenty years ago)

Nice investigative reporting, BTW.

Why does Kentucky hate comics fans? Why does Jennifer Brummett make me want to apologize for my gender? Why do I want to lock Charlie Cox in a sci-fi closet?

Madolan, Wednesday, 15 June 2005 17:28 (twenty years ago)

WHO ATE ALL THE PIES???

Huk-L, Wednesday, 15 June 2005 17:31 (twenty years ago)

And why does Huk hate people that bake?

COULD MANGA BE NEXT?

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 17:31 (twenty years ago)

Wait a minute, i'm confused.
Was there only one entry in the pie contest, or was the winning pie that person's only entry?

Huk-L, Wednesday, 15 June 2005 17:33 (twenty years ago)

Also note, she used a ready-made crust.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 15 June 2005 17:33 (twenty years ago)

You ever make a crust? Shit's hard to do!

Come on, Jocelyn - what self-respecting journalist has room for pie?

Guys, um, their photo news story of the week seems to consist of the giant boot installed at Red Wing Shoes. Not to point any fingers and laugh, but...

I'd love to know a situation where Hannah ISN'T a girl among boys when she's among boys. Unless there's some Ramna 1/2 stuff going on.

OMG MANGA IS NEXT!!!!!1!

MY QUESTION TO IAN JOHANSEN:

WHY ARE YOU NOT LIKING THE SEVEN SOLDIERS? WHAT WERE YOU EXPECTING? AND WHAT ARE YOU ENJOYING IN YOUR READING ADVENTURES?

GET FAMILIAR,
DR

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 20:25 (twenty years ago)

I'm not liking seven soldiers because there's nothing compelling about any of the characters except Klarion. Zatanna is boring, Manhattan Guardian is a decent action comic but doesn't make me care about the characters, and Shining Knight is unbearably cheesy at points.

Currently I am reading & liking:
Batman Jekyll & Hyde (very excellent art)
Captain America
New Avengers
Batman
Action Comics

I also liked We3. And I read Daredevil in trades. I used to read Ultimate Spiderman but haven't kept up. I used to read and enjoy Caper, but that was a limited thing. I also used to read Detective Comics, but haven't started up again because I don't feel like catching up on the current plotline.

One love,
Ian Johnson

Batman drives like THIS.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 16 June 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

The current storyline in Detective is really, really good, Ian.
It's a big fat 12-issue story, but it's a big story, not merely a big event, like Hush. David Lapham (Stray Bullets & the upcoming Daredevil/Punisher miniseries) is writing a really sweet crime story with lots of misdirection, grieving mothers, and an army of clay ninjas.

If you like goofy at all, I highly HIGHLY recommend the Spider-Man/Human Torch miniseries, which was supposed to be collected this month as I'm With Stupid, but seeing as the last issue hasn't come out yet, I don't know what the deal is.
Basically, each issue is a snapshot of a moment in Spidey/Torchy history. Dan Slott brings the yuks galore with Ty Templeton gorgeously recreating the best of various eras' styles. I did have an issue with the colouring or inking or possibly the paper stock (not sure which was irking me) at first, but it seems to have worked itself out (or I just gave up giving a shit).
