I've got a one-page strip in which Earth is destroyed in a way you would ne'er suspect!!!?!

Vic Fluro, Tuesday, 28 June 2005 11:47 (twenty years ago)

Vic - aside from your no doubt amazing work, is 2000AD worth picking up on a regular basis?

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 11:51 (twenty years ago)

please post this message again in six to fourteen weeks when it reaches Australian newsagents?

kit brash (kit brash), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 12:59 (twenty years ago)

It's pretty reasonable for the price... but not exactly world-setting-on-fire.

Vic Fluro, Tuesday, 28 June 2005 16:35 (twenty years ago)

Well, I finally got a copy, and they've... toned it down considerably. I'm sure Tom will agree that using one exclamation mark when two will do smacks of perverse frugality. And why replace the beautiful sound of AAAAAAEEEEEEIIIIGGHHHHH!!!?! with a pedestrian AAAAHHH! - I couldn't tell you.

The art's lovely, though! NOW ALL BUY!

Vic Fluro, Wednesday, 29 June 2005 17:59 (twenty years ago)

Next you'll be telling me they're spelling "NO!" with one O.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 18:01 (twenty years ago)

No, all the O's in NOOOOO are there. I've sold a script that involves the word NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO which may be the acid test for whether Tharg understands his own comic. I also tried selling him a script where some space colonists walk on the grass and ARE THEMSELVES WALKED ON BY GIANT BLADES OF GRASS and he said it was 'a bit obvious'. DANGER SIGNALS I think you will agree.

Vic Fluro, Wednesday, 29 June 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

Is this available in North America?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 18:23 (twenty years ago)

It's available via Diamond, but you'll probably have to ask for it by name.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

So it's not through DC's 2000AD line? Does that even exist?
I'll talk to my dude this afternoon about getting it.
Is there an issue number I should ask for?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 18:28 (twenty years ago)

Tell him you badly need 2000AD Prog 1445.

DC's 2000AD line fell over and died, although Rebellion are making trades directly for American consumption now. Allegedly.

You might also want to ask for progs 1296, 1386 and 1399.

Vic Fluro, Wednesday, 29 June 2005 18:34 (twenty years ago)

I'm sure Tom will agree that using one exclamation mark when two will do smacks of perverse frugality.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!THAT'S INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to look in to asking about getting 2000 AD at my comic book den/crackhouse.

Leon C. (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 18:49 (twenty years ago)

Vic your strip was TOTALLY SCROTNIG.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 1 July 2005 08:32 (twenty years ago)

It was classic. Though the rest of the comic is sharply lacking in thrill power. And they appear to have turned Dredd into a not-particularly-good espionage story. The panel about how there are strict penalties for extra-judicial brutality from judges is the most point-missing I've ever seen.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 1 July 2005 09:16 (twenty years ago)

I do have a slight problem with the fact that Vienna is always in danger. ALWAYS. I can think of exactly one story since she was reintroduced when she's been a) not in peril and b) not doing her boring 'Why can't you be human Uncle Joe' speech. I keep expecting to open my prog and find her in a refridgerator.

Vic Fluro, Friday, 1 July 2005 10:17 (twenty years ago)

Great story Vic.

But 'Uncle Joe'? There is no way of explaining that that won't make it even worse, is there?

Ray (Ray), Friday, 1 July 2005 12:24 (twenty years ago)

The explanation: in classic latterday 2000AD style, a punchy one-parter from the early days has been magically transformed into 100+ progs worth of emo fanwank. Am I right?

Tom (Groke), Friday, 1 July 2005 12:40 (twenty years ago)

Yeah. And that's not even mentioning the Dredd Family of Dredd, Dredd Junior and Kid Dredd.

Vic Fluro, Friday, 1 July 2005 14:15 (twenty years ago)

I read it in the shop. I think you'll find that Nyarlathotep is the Crawling Chaos, while Azathoth is the Blind Idiot God.

the nerdy vicar (dirtyvicar), Friday, 1 July 2005 20:17 (twenty years ago)

but I did still chortle.

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 1 July 2005 20:18 (twenty years ago)

This is no sissy Nyarlathotep but rather Nya'arlhotep. They're utterly different. You might as well say that Savage Dragon is just the Hulk.

Vic Fluro, Friday, 1 July 2005 20:28 (twenty years ago)

ah right!

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 1 July 2005 22:23 (twenty years ago)

Any chance of *shivers* scanning it for non-UK residents?
