What are you reading regularly, ILCitizens?

My current, embarrassingly large, pull list:

Green Lantern
Batman
Detective Comics
Outsiders
Teen Titans
Green Arrow
Black Panther
Captain America
Daredevil
JLA
JSA
JLA: C (though I think I'm done for now, not really interested in the upcoming arc)
Gotham Central
the Flash
Day of Vengeance
Rann/Thanagar War
Villains United
OMAC Project
Return of Donna Troy
and sometimes Nightwing

I hate myself now.

Huk, I think I have over 100 titles on my pull list (including minis & crap), so don't feel bad.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 15:03 (twenty years ago)

Titles I'm thinking of dropping:

Batman - Okay, Jason Todd is back. I get it.
Outsiders - Aside from Arsenal, I don't really give a crap about any of these characters. Well, Shift's kinda cool, but less so now that his robot fuck buddy blowed up.
Teen Titans - Oooh look, TEENAGERS! I could just go to the mall.
Daredevil - Sometimes I feel like this only SEEMS like good comics.
JSA - Oooh look, OLD PEOPLE! I could just go to the mall.
JLA: C - Are you shitting me with those digital covers?
Return of Donna Troy - Oooh look, SPACE GODS! I could just go to the mall.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 15:10 (twenty years ago)

Ha, that reads like part of my possible drop-list, tho JSA was one of the first to go when I whittled stuff down way way back, and I like Daredevil (you anti-Marvelite). I'm actually getting the non-Winick/Mahnke issue of Batman in my next mailing, which SUCKS. (The last time I saw art from the guy doing the fill-in - Chris Marrinan - he was working some sub-Gil Thorp blockhead angle, which STINK STANK STUNK.) Donna Troy is halfway over, and the art is gorgeous, so I'm sticking it out. I really wish DC put quality folks like Garcia-Lopez on the other INFINITELY CRISISED minis, but, y'know, that's like asking for, um, stuff.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 15:15 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I figure I'm in for a penny, etc, with Donna Troy, but if I'm gonna drop Outsiders and Teen Titans...BUT, JSA next month (or the month after) features Alan Scott, Hal Jordan and Donna Troy, TOGETHER AT LAST!

I think my anti-Daredevil sentiment comes partly from having just read the Smith/Queseda horriblus.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

For fun, I'm gonna list the regularly-published non-Big Two titles on my pull list:

Walking Dead
Invincible
Grimoire
The Goon
Sea of Red
Queen & Country
Flaming Carrot
Strange Girl

... and no doubt there's more, but I'm stumped as to what they are right now.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 15:40 (twenty years ago)

Your drop list is bigger than my pull list! Which is currently:

Wonder Woman
Ex (Machina)
Y

And maybe two or three other titles.

Leeeeeee (Leee), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 16:24 (twenty years ago)

You need something with a Z in it, Leeeee.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 16:37 (twenty years ago)

Maddie and I have a pull list that looks something like this:

all Grant Morrison
all Warren Ellis
Y
Ex Machina
Runaways
Lucifer
Astonishing X-Men
Walking Dead
Courtney Crumrin
Fables
and then a bunch of other X-titles that are her purview :>

Other stuff like Powers, Queen & Country, Daredevil and Sleeper I get in trades.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 16:44 (twenty years ago)

Pretty much the same as July 95, really:

Hate Annual
Eightball
Following Cerebus
Flaming Carrot
Optic Nerve
Peepshow
Schizo
the Alan Moore issues of Tom Strong
all of Seven Soldiers
Weasel

and probably a few other things I'm forgetting because they only come out once every two years...

kit brash (kit brash), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 21:14 (twenty years ago)

I get quite a large number of DC comics for free; most of which I don't read because of the lack of time. The ones I read are:

All of Seven Soldiers
Desolation Jones
Plastic Man (don't know if it will be released this month)
Lucifer
100 Bullets
The Flash
Wonder Woman
All of Superman (it's terrible, all of it, but I love the character so much that I read it just in case it might become good)
JSA
Legion of Super-Heroes
JLA Classified (I can't believe...)
Young Avengers (a friend I have told me to get this because the writer works for The OC staff...I'll have to remember not to pay attention to his recommendations next time)
X-Men (the Peter Milligan one)
Toxin (a limited series devoted to the son of Carnage, grandson of venom...damn you Peter Milligan!)

iodine (iodine), Thursday, 14 July 2005 01:49 (twenty years ago)

Astonishing X-Men
GLA
Mnemovore
Queen & Country (but not this non-Rucka mini)
Runaways
Street Angel

The Yellow Kid, Thursday, 14 July 2005 03:14 (twenty years ago)

Stray Bullets
Y The Last Man
Seven Soldiers
Hellblazer
Lucifer
Astonishing Xmen
GLA
Powers
Planetary
The Red Star

Shorter than I would have thought. Stuff that was on at the start of the year but has eneded:

Sleeper
Rising Stars
She Hulk
Human Target
Promethea
We 3
Wanted
Vimanarama
Tom Strong (still going, but I've stopped accidentally getting it. I think)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 14 July 2005 18:40 (twenty years ago)

Anything by Grant Morrison
Superman/Batman
LXG (when it comes out)

...and that's about it (the rest, due to budgetary constraints, I tend to read at the store). I just read the first Ex Machina TPB and might start picking that up, though.

(Trades-wise, I'm following Daredevil, Powers, Promethea and Y. What's Stray Bullets like?)

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Thursday, 14 July 2005 21:38 (twenty years ago)

I don't actually have a pull list because I do not consistently buy from the same store, but if I were to make one, it would be:

Legion of Super-Heroes
Astonishing X-Men
Milligan X-Men
Ultimate X-Men
The Fantastic Four
Daredevil
The Ultimates
City of Tomorrow

I didn't put any of the indie stuff that comes out once a year on this list, only monthlies.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Thursday, 14 July 2005 23:44 (twenty years ago)

I'll add All Star Superman whenever that starts up. Sad to see that I've pretty much entirely abandoned Grant Morrison.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Thursday, 14 July 2005 23:46 (twenty years ago)

I used to buy Fantastic Four, but chose to drop it when Waid and Wieringo jumped off. Am I missing something?

iodine (iodine), Friday, 15 July 2005 02:08 (twenty years ago)

Ha, I totally forgot about Superman/Batman. That's on my list too, but it never comes out.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 15 July 2005 03:47 (twenty years ago)

I don't actually have a pull list right now. I might start one up again if there's ever enough stuff out there that I feel is worth committing my money to. I have been following Stray Bullets and Love and Rockets lately, but I'm not sure they're worth it anymore. Been buying the Seven Soldiers books, as well as the other Morrison mini-series that have been coming out recently. Don't know how I feel about buying All-Star Superman when it comes out. It might be too slight a series to be worth the purchase (even with Quitely art-- We3 wasn't really all that hot). Also I've been buying the new Flaming Carrot series. It seems like it's missing something from the old days, but I'll stick with it for a while yet. There's some other recent things I've been reading regularly via sources that I'm going to take the Fifth on mentioning, like the Waid FF run, She Hulk, Runaways, and some other mainstream things that I don't feel like buying because they're not worth three bucks per issue for the one read I'd give them before throwing them away. I was into reading fan translations of recent manga for a while, but I seem to have given that up-- too much hassle in procurement and too much mediocre genre stuff out there to wade through. Did recently read a few fan-translated Adachi Mitsuru series that I liked, and I'm probably going to pull out my run of Yokohama Shopping Log for a read finally fairly soon. There's some translated manga stuff out now in commercial release that I enjoyed reading via internet and would recommend-- for example, "Tramps Like Us"(lame title change, too bad they didn't have the guts to release it as "You're My Pet"), and Beck. Not great art, but fun reads, so the jury's out as to whether I'm going to buy them or just keep an eye on the volumes as they come into the bookstores. Does anyone else here follow manga at all?

Chris F. (servoret), Friday, 15 July 2005 04:05 (twenty years ago)

I bought and read the first two issues of the Straczynski run, and though I was afraid that it wouldn't be very good, I found that I really, really liked it. It just picks up from where Waid left off and gets things moving in a slightly different direction. I'm very impressed, so I'm sticking with it.
