Because readers need a fun comic! Seriously! This is going to be a book where characters don’t sit around and talk for a whole issue. They’re gonna have adventures! And clobber things!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 14 July 2005 13:29 (twenty years ago)

Oh, that Dan Slott. He talks the talk certainly. Surely he is the bill-no-mates of Marvel.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 14 July 2005 13:37 (twenty years ago)

Dan Slott, don't ever change.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 14 July 2005 13:47 (twenty years ago)

That last issue of Spidey/Torch made me feel good.

Vic Fluro, Thursday, 14 July 2005 22:10 (twenty years ago)

Best since the first, but I was sad they skipped the '90s. I was hanging for a Slott/Templeton take on "his web-line - advantageous!"

kit brash (kit brash), Thursday, 14 July 2005 23:52 (twenty years ago)

I really liked the Black Cat issue. As a non-Marvellian, that is. I'm sure that if my entire knowledge of Spider-Man wasn't accompanied by groovy a soundtrack (ie, from the 60s cartoon), I would have had a different take on the whole retrospective part of it. I read it more like a multi-generational (but not quite) epic, like War & Peace.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 15 July 2005 03:50 (twenty years ago)

What? Issue 3 was clearly the best! (That was the one with the Red Ghost and the fruit pies, right?)

The Yellow Kid, Friday, 15 July 2005 04:19 (twenty years ago)

ten months pass...
Cancelled at #8.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 15 May 2006 02:21 (nineteen years ago)

Clearly, a solid business plan would be to get Slott doing exclusively mini-series. Because, like, then you can hype them a little more than ongoing, and each one would be quickly traded, and there would be a chance to build momentum and readership. But, like, between 52-Skidoo and Civil Blargh, how does a GOOD (versus IMPORTANT) book stand a chance. If only there was some branch of the comics press that would devote itself to bring the FUN back to FUNNY BOOKS...some rogue fly-by-night operation that wanted comics to be as much fun to read as they are to gab about...some weird creature of the night that will make sure no one ever has to see Batman tell Martian Manhunter to GET OUT OF MY BRAIN!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 15 May 2006 02:27 (nineteen years ago)

I have an even better idea: fire the jackasses doing Amazing Spider-Man right now, let Slott take over with Mike Weiringo on art, and give them the freedom to do whatever they want for a couple years.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Monday, 15 May 2006 02:59 (nineteen years ago)

Alternatively: Let Bendis and Bagley finish their run of Ultimate Spidey sometime soonish, and then let Dan Slott take it from there.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Monday, 15 May 2006 03:00 (nineteen years ago)

The second idea is probably better. But bring Weiringo, please.

I see THE INTERN just got stupid on the Warlock blog.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 15 May 2006 03:38 (nineteen years ago)

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Monday, 15 May 2006 03:57 (nineteen years ago)

is there a trade announced yet? that cuts off before #8?

kit brash (kit brash), Monday, 15 May 2006 05:12 (nineteen years ago)

The trade's actually collecting the entire series - it's coming out in June, I believe.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 15 May 2006 11:15 (nineteen years ago)

hey, no reason to doubt, but where's this news come from? Can't find anything about it on Newsarama or CBR.

chocolate kuegelhopf (Garrett Martin), Monday, 15 May 2006 13:06 (nineteen years ago)

Evidence:

1) many MANY desperate calls by Mr. Slott to Save This Series
2) the solicitation for the Thing TPB changing from collecting the first 6 issues to the first 8
3) Marvel giving Palmiotti & Gray way too much work*

* might not be actual evidence, but COME ON
