Tournament Time! Superheroes Smackdown! NOMINATION THREAD

I'm on a big geekiness kick right now, so let's indulge a bit in a superhero/team tourney, and hey, another poll that we'll never finish.

First, each of us will need to nominate four fantastic teams to compile a list of teams that'll compete, hopefully accruing enough that the tourney will have a sexy 64 competitors. (If our list goes beyond 64, maybe a run-off of your top 10 (TOP 10!) -- biggest vote getters stay in. And if the nominees don't reach 64, I'll allow an additional vote.)

Then, through a random seeding process, we'll start the tournament itself. Vote in each bracket who you think would win in a battle between team A and team B, and whichever team gets more votes goes on.

Now, who can you nominate? Anyone you fancy, including solo heroes and film creations (i.e. The Incredibles). Keep in mind that even though he's pretty resourceful, most people will think that Daredevil will probably lose against the X-Men.

Deadline for noms: AUGUST 11.

Can you create your own team? For example, The Guy Who Molested Spiderman could lead a team of a Mummy Insect and a Giant Scorpion! And Keith out of Superman - ON TAR! They would be called THE NEW CHAMPIONS

If this is a quien es mas macho type game don't we pretty much have to give it to Miracleman, who took over the world and reshaped it to his desire? Everybody else is all talk, eh?

Can Madrox be his own team?

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 22 July 2005 18:52 (twenty years ago)

The Kreators (alt: The Metahumans!) -- Grant Morrison, Warren Ellis, Julius Schwartz, Kyle Baker

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 22 July 2005 19:05 (twenty years ago)

When did Kyle Baker appear in a comic? And surely Stan and Jack should be on that team too?

Vic Fluro, Friday, 22 July 2005 19:06 (twenty years ago)

Doesn't Kyle Baker write comics about himself? I haven't read them myself.

The Kreators are always recruiting!

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 22 July 2005 19:11 (twenty years ago)

Yeeeeeah... but all the other three interacted on the comics page with superheroes. I mean technically you could have Robert Crumb in there, or Dan Clowes, if being a creator who appears in a comic is all it takes to be in the Kreators. I thought they'd have more rigorous standards.

Vic Fluro, Friday, 22 July 2005 19:17 (twenty years ago)

You're right, KB was a last minute addition. He'll probably get taken out by Gwen Stacy in Round 1.

Maybe creators starring in autobiographical comics should have their own team??

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 22 July 2005 19:21 (twenty years ago)

Kyle Baker could form it. It'd be like Batman and the Outsiders, only with a bunch of guys sitting in a convention bar somewhere.

Vic Fluro, Friday, 22 July 2005 19:29 (twenty years ago)

Kyle wrote and drew the story where Giffen, DeMatteis and Helfer have their story meeting crashed by Guy Gardner, Earth-Prime stylee. (but no, he didn't appear in it.)

On the benches for the Kreators: Dave Sim! (Special power: works his opponent into an incoherent rage with with his endless arsenal of wacko circular arguments!)

This "Kreator" thing makes me remember a solicitation that appeared on a Diamond Preview back in the late nineties or very early Y2K.

It was about a comic that was going to published by Awesome Comics, the name was "Rob". It was going to be a regular series focused on the life of a young kid who dreamed of being a professional comic book artist. And, yes, "Rob" was going to be written by none-other than the man himself, Rob "do I have to say his last name?" Liefeld.

I said "it was going to be" because...well, this seemed to be kinda like a Rob autobiography, and what would be more autobiographical of Rob Liefeld than his own autobiography? Well, of course, NEVER SHIPPING the damn book. So, in true Rob fashion, this never, ever got to the shelves, and people like me, who had noticed the ad on Previews and were eager to check this out, never got to flip through his pages in order to find out if Rob was indeed mad enough to make a comic book about himself.

It never saw the light of the sun but, to me, just the thought of making a comic book starring Rob is enough to put him in my team of Kreators.

Tournament Time! Superheroes Smackdown! NOMINATION THREAD

kit brash (kit brash), Saturday, 23 July 2005 06:01 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
I think the creator of the Mister-y Men is forgetting the #2 and #3 of all medieval-themed superheroes: Mr Lion and Mr Unicorn (in their Zenith Phase Three guises, naturellement). #1 is the (Black) Archer, from same.

josh keyes-liley, Thursday, 22 September 2005 08:15 (twenty years ago)

Well, due to overwhelming disinterest, THE AUTHORITY WON.
