Anyone know where is a good place to d/l comics at the moment, Z Cult has gone into donation land it seems.
On the same subject, anybody know the progress off the Marvel Chrono project, I've got from 60/61 up to 69, has it gone further?

DC++, my mang!

Leeeeeee (Leee), Friday, 29 July 2005 19:49 (twenty years ago)

Indeed, but where are the torrents??? why are they hidden? how do you access them, I'm a logged in member, do you have to donate first?

mzui (mzui), Saturday, 30 July 2005 09:16 (twenty years ago)

There's a lot of good stuff that gets posted on Usenet still. For instance, right now on the repost group, somebody's been doing posts of complete series from classic era 2000 AD.

Chris F. (servoret), Saturday, 30 July 2005 15:46 (twenty years ago)

I logged into DC++ once too, and couldn't understand it one bit.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Saturday, 30 July 2005 21:47 (twenty years ago)

me too - i'm sharing a bit of stuff on soulsick, username: jblount74. i also torrent a bit - demonoid, and whatever i find thru torrentspy or isohunt - but these still leave me like huk's mom: unsatisfied. what torrents do yall use? why ain't zcult working for us - do you have to donate, or worse, post on the forum? also what's everyone's slsk usernames? indie stuff seems especially hard to find - any suggestions?

My slsk nick is fazoo, but the only comics I have up are the things Jon Morris sends me in the guise of "Johnny Bronze Age."

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Saturday, 30 July 2005 23:09 (twenty years ago)

I think you need to make one post to Zcult, cos it looks like it works for me. (I haven't actually tried to download anything, but I can at least access the tracker site.)

I swear to god, DC++ is wunderbar, I haven't used s1sk (I'm plechazunga, but nowadays not on very much) and torrent sites since.

Leeeeeee (Leee), Sunday, 31 July 2005 00:19 (twenty years ago)

Does this DC++ have the non-superhero style comics as well?

Blount, I don't know what you've been doing with Huk's mom but she's never had complaint one around me.

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 31 July 2005 00:36 (twenty years ago)

Chris: it depends on the 'hub.' The one that I use is primarily superhero stuff, though.

Leeeeeee (Leee), Sunday, 31 July 2005 01:13 (twenty years ago)

I don't think a lot of non-superhero stuff ever gets scanned.

Occam, Sunday, 31 July 2005 03:39 (twenty years ago)

Dunno about that. There's a guy who goes around the internet under the handle of "Sir Real" who's scanned and posted at this point pretty much every underground comic that was ever released in the US. I think a lot of Euro comic album stuff has gotten scanned, too. More recent "art" comics may be harder to come by, though.

Chris F. (servoret), Sunday, 31 July 2005 05:03 (twenty years ago)

And, of course, the scanlated manga scene is a whole 'nother story, if you're talking about non-superhero comic scans.

Chris F. (servoret), Sunday, 31 July 2005 05:06 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah, and US Golden/Silver Age non-superhero stuff is getting scanned, judging from what I see floating around on Usenet.

Chris F. (servoret), Sunday, 31 July 2005 05:12 (twenty years ago)

DC++ really is very easy, and is way the best thing to use if you're looking for specific titles.

Non-superhero comics do get scanned, even old ones; they're just harder to find. I actually found some woodring and about half of eightball's run. It looks like some scanning group has even taken up scanning old issues of love and rockets, cause I found a bunch of those the other day but none at all a couple months ago.

I've noticed that a couple of people are selling 'complete run' cbr dvd sets of the bigger Marvel/DC characters Batan/Superman/Iron Man etc: on Ebay, starting around £4.99, not bad for three dvds, principle is still a bit dodgy tho'.

Re: my mom.
There's a big music festival thingy in town, and it's one of those things that my parents and I would attend independent of one another, and I ran into my mom last night and was talking to her, and this guy walked past and she said, "I've seen that man before. I've been trying to think all night where I know him from. Wait, I know now. He's one of the models from my life drawing class."

So you guys can say whatever you want about my mom, but none of it will be as creepy as what she actually says.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Sunday, 31 July 2005 16:41 (twenty years ago)

How is that creepy? Does she not have a life drawing class?

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 1 August 2005 06:13 (twenty years ago)

HIS MOM HAS NO HANDS! NOR EYES!

j blount (papa la bas), Monday, 1 August 2005 07:30 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, but I thought they only drew naked WOMEN in the life drawing class!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 1 August 2005 13:48 (twenty years ago)

What, and they don't have transexuals where you live?

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 1 August 2005 15:29 (twenty years ago)

Do transexuals frequently pose for drawing classes?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 1 August 2005 15:30 (twenty years ago)

Oh yes, they're in great demand. It gives the life drawings a certain "edginess".

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 1 August 2005 15:57 (twenty years ago)

two months pass...
HURRAH for transexuals but also HURRAH for me as I've finally figured out how to use ZCult. It's actually going to make me buy more comics, isn't it? (Once I've caught up on Runaways, LOSH, etc, I imagine I'll keep at them.)

Boring Questions:
1) I'm using Azereus, which seems good as you can prioritise various issues into sub-torrents -- but is there a better program? Is DC+++ any better?
2) Any other good comics d/l sites?
3) Is it worth creating our own forum on SLSK to swap stuff?

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 09:38 (twenty years ago)

yes! and/or a dc++ room/forum/thingy. except i don't know how.

bucky wunderlick (bucky), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 11:52 (twenty years ago)

It's actually going to make me buy more comics, isn't it?

Yes, this is exactly how it works. Escape the spectacle now while you still can! (Well, at least you know you'll be buying comics that you like!)

2)I'm still going to pimp Usenet on here-- you guys coulda had all of 2000 AD up to 1990 if you'd been watching last week.

3)ILC SLSK! The very idea is almost enough incentive in itself to get me to start using SLSK again! How am I gonna find the time to participate if it does take place tho? Geez...
