Some may tire of Milligan's cleverisms (though in the Bad Guy arc, he had me utterly stoopid larffing at "Guy? I'm not Guy, I'm Bad Guy!"), but then there's Allred's art which is oh so ginchy.

I think it's only alright rather than brilliant. Whenever I buy an issue I feel a certain admiration for what they are doing, but no great urge to ever buy another.

Agreed, I'll keep on buying it but it does read sometimes like "neat ideas we had this week" monthly (the most recent Ringu 'inspired' issue being one of the most obvious examples. The Doop-heavy issues are classic though. Doop/Wolverine > X-Statix?

Reminds me a bit of the old "Strikeforce: Morituri" (sp?), in that Milligan's willing to kill off characters that the readers have invested in. Was sad about U Go Girl, not so much about Phat, but it keeps the mix lively. Same goes for Powers, and the folk that have come and gone in that title. And second the artwork rave.

Aaargh I so deserve a spank cos I saw the spoiler thing and read ahead and oh no about Phat.

As for the Doop/Wolverine two issue mini (is that what you're referring to aldo?), I felt it was tossed off compared to regular X-Statix -- the characters were a lot more caricatured (as opposed to ironized spoofs -- nitpicky).

Nitpicky maybe, but it's a better Doop than we've seen in an awful long time in X-Factor/Statix - probably since the 'initiation ceremony' issue? For me, Doop has this lurking menace that's yet to be fully explored. He's IMO the most sisister hero we have, with this violent, vindictive streak lurking barely under his surface, yet too often he's comedy relief.

Anyway, how many heroes could go toe to toe with Wolverine? (OK, looking at Marvel history almost everyone has at least once, but you get my point :-) )

I've enjoyed the two TPB's so far, I must get the X-Force ones as well. I'm just hoping that the series can keep going and not fade away badly like Generation X did, was I the only person who liked that series? So, yeah, I like the new ideas/humour and the simplicity of the art, so I'll say classic.

Classic. There's an easy wit there that is completely missing from all other comics - even Milligan's other comics as he's usually making some serious point. X-Statix is just two "fun people" pissing about for twenty-two pages, which is why it rools.

As speculated by the arrival of this week's Giant-Sized X-Statix by Milligan and Allred, a follow-up series by the same team (entitled X-Cellent) will be released next year.

I can't believe the original series ended fifteen years ago. Jesus christ.

Marvel have literally sent out advance copies of this, in print, but have still not announced how "giant-sized" a product you are getting for A$11.50
