What I Read Yesterday

I actually started on Sunday.
First: I picked up the first collection of the KnightFall trilogy. Art by Jim Aparo and Norm Breyfogle! Hooray! They were the Batman artists when I gave up comics in 90/91, so it was good to see them again. Aparo's art is so goofy, but great. Like everyone has the same long face, but his action shots are good. Breyfogle has a great style as well. I'm looking forward to gradually finishing this storyline.

Second: Cosmic Odyssey
Wow, Mike Mignola is so cool. The story was okay. I'll have to read it again, I just kept flipping ahead to see more great art.

Aparo & DeCarlo are a match made in heaven.

Yeah, somewhere in my parents' garage I have a box full of comics that includes a run of Brave & Bolds from the 70s.
And there's one issue in the Knightfall: Broken Bat collection where Aparo is inked by Tom Mandrake and it's spooky DC at its best (both were defining Spectre pencillers).

No doubt! I used to luv luv luv the Ostrander / Mandrake Spectre series.

80s / 90s comic nostalgia is kewl.

Am I crazy in thinking that his work looks very similar to Supergirl-era Frank?

Mmmmmaybe. I think KM's art is a bit more expressive facially. Here's a page that's more indicative of what he (KM) does.

Not quite the same, but not wholly dissimilar.

Did GF used to do Hulk for a while?
I chatted with KM at a Toronto convention last year: he's a sort of creepy-but-introverted-but-loud-you-wouldn't-want-yer-kids-to-meet-him-type. Classic on JL tho'.
